Rondo at the NBA 2K9 PartyIf I could choose one PG in the League not named Nash, Paul or Williams, I would choose Rajon Rondo. The architect for the newly-minted NBA Champion Celtics, Rondo has the handles and the IQ of a champ. He’s a speed merchant. He’s a future All-Star.
With this delusion of grandeur in mind, GM Danny Ainge said that he’ll exercise his $2.09 million team option for the 2009-10 season, meaning Rondo will have to wait another year to buy that second home.
Said Duffy, “We think he is one of the centerpieces of the organization. I’m sure they want him there. [A long-term deal] would be [Rondo’s] preference. He’s interested in remaining a part of that nucleus that is trying to win championships.”
And more championships will be won. At 22-years-old, Rondo has probably five more under his belt. After averaging 10.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in only 29.9 minutes in his innagural campaign alongside the Big Three, look for bigger and better things this season.

I have to agree with post 1. Please tell us AP from where do come up with this stuff? Five more rings, so are you saying that his teams will always be better than KB24’s, CP3, D-Will, San Antonio? The Celts mortgaged the future for the now! Garnett, Ray, and PP where the ones that got them there and won it for them. And they all needed James Posey to win it all.

@Kevin
It’s not out of reach. The Celtics could easily repeat this year and that would put his total at 2 at 23 years of age.
@Drink the Haterade
I’m not saying his team will always be better, but look at those squads. Who knows where those guys will end up in a couple years once the Boston Three Party is over. You can’t say Kobe, CP3 and D-Will will still on their same squads with their same support, i.e. with Boozer gone, D-Will can only get Millsap so many buckets.
@tealish
When I called Rondo “the architect” I was talking about him as a PG. The point guard, floor general, architect, etc. He was definitely that for the C’s. As for TP, I don’t really look at him as a true PG. He’s a score-first type of guy. In terms of dropping dimes and facilitating, I take Rondo.

@ Aron–
You are correct, KB24 could leave, but won’t. CP3 could walk in a couple years but won’t and Boozer might leave, but to go where? Miami. Maybe, but to say that he will have five is insane. Kobe has 3 and he’s 30, got one at like 21, 22. So to say that Rondo will end up with five is a reach. First the Celts have to repeat. Not happening.They are a year older and lost James Posey who hit timely bucket after timely bucket and played mad “D”. I’m gonna say that KG, PP, and Ray will not win another title together. The reason is that too many of the east teams, Philly, Cavs, Detroit all got better and technically the Champs got worse by Posey jumping ship.
I understand your love for Rondo, but he’s not winning any championships without three super studs on his squad anytime soon.

Allen was lost the entire playoffs. thanks for not showing up.
and Garnett? he got what he deserved, but with help. hes NOT the player everyone makes him out to be. He’s getting older, and his “i love the game” act is getting old too.
Celtics will not make the finals this year, guaranteed. and Rondo will not be the same player this year. he was handed a championship-caliber team. when the old boys retire in the next couple of years, Rondo will go back to being mediocre at best. SEBASTIAN TELFAIR IS BETTER

and i was being sarcastic about sebastian telfair, but my point was to bring down Rajon Rondo to Sebastian’s level. he is nothing special, he is not an elite guard. he is a fluke, his one job is to get the ball to 3 ALL STARS and future HOFers. HOW HARD COULD THAT BE? the #1 rule for an offensive player is to GO GET THE BALL, meaning all rondo has to do is wait until Pierce or Allen get around their screens and get open. how hard could that be? most of the time Pierce has the ball in his hands anyway! that does not make an all star caliber PG. an all star caliber PG is a guy such as Paul, or Williams, who can control the flow of the game. until the Big 3 retire, we will nto know Rondos full potential. and even then, i can guarantee, he will NOT see another championship ring. hold on i think he hears Europe calling.

I would take Tony Parker, Baron Davis, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, Mike Bibby, Andre Miller, and Raymond Felton ALL before I would take Rondo. Hell, I would probably even take Starbury before I would take Rondo!
Rondo was riding the coattails of the big 3 and anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.

I love Rondo’s game; he just needs to develop a jump shot and some range. Great hands, good defensive awareness, quick, protects the ball, and noticeably improved throughout last season.
That being said, Chauncey Billups has got to be ranked ahead of Rondo as well as Baron Davis, who when healthy is still one of the best (do people not remember him tearing up TMac and the Magic when he was on the Hornets?).

@AY
Haha. You know we’re in the midst of an economic crisis!
@Bob
Jose Calderon is an interesting answer, but this guy has put up numbers on a bad team a la Ramon Sessions. Rondo was the starting PG on the World Champion Celtics. I’m not talking about Chris Herren here.
@changster
What everyone needs to realize is that this kid is 22. He’s like a Matt Ryan for the Falcons. Sure he’s not perfect, but he’s playing with the best. He’s Sam Cassell winning two ‘chips his first two seasons in the League. And when I’m talking about winning five, sure it is VERY unlikely, but it’s a bold prediction. Who would have though Sam Cassell won so many and Patrick Ewing none.
Flat out, the kid can play - and whether he’s on the Celtics, with or without the Big Three, or some other squad - Rondo will only get better.

At best Rondo will be a solid starter, definitely not an all-star. The dude has no mid or long-range game at all, but that could change; yet I don’t see him improving his numbers substantially over the next few seasons. My friend is a huge UK fan and felt that he came out too early since he wasn’t (and still isn’t) a good shooter. She told me that other teams would use the ‘Hack-a-Rondo’ strategy late in close games since he’s a terrible free-thow shooter. That’s another thing, how can you be a pg and not be a good ft shooter? That’s like a qb not being able to throw the deep ball down the field.
October 16th, 2008 at 1:02 am
TJ says:

btw, if I had to choose 1 pg who isn’t a star yet but has the most potential to win a ton of rings and be an all-star, i’d say jordan farmar. balls of steel (something rondo is lacking big-time), good quickness, MUCH better shot than rondo, good bball IQ and great work ethic.

Hell, if I was playing with the Big 3 even I couldn’t screw that up. All I have to do is bring the ball to half court and pass it.
Just because he was the PG of the World Champs doesn’t mean a thing about how good he is.
Like I say, I bet over half of us here in the comment section can do the job that Rondo did.
Yes, he grabbed some rebounds but hell 90% of the NBA don’t box out and so if you just wanted to get a rebound you could get one. Just box someone out and you’ll get more NBA players trying to start fights with you and get all the NBA analyst saying you are a hustler. All that just for boxing someone out. Hell I can do that.
But just to make sure we are talking about the same guy, we are talking about that guy for the Celtics that has a career 3-pt % of 23%, that averages 2.5 ast for every turnover, and that shoots 63% from the ft line as a PG? That guy?
