Rajon Rondo Is Outplaying Mo Williams

Boston Celtics

Even if KG has Anderson Varejao guessing which way he’ll spin every time he puts the ball on the floor with his back to the basket, Rajon Rondo has been the Celtics‘ biggest game-changer thus far.

Instead of both teams trading half-court possessions for the entirety of the first half, Rondo helped to break up the monotony by zipping the ball up the floor off of a number of inbound passes, resulting in easy looks for himself and for Big Baby. He’s also triggered some defensive stops, pressuring the Cavs into coughing up a turnover and a 24-second violation.

Maybe this is an “ego game” for Rondo. With all of the publicity coming Mo Williams‘ way this off-season, perhaps Rondo wants to prove a point that he’s not just the reigning champions’ point guard, but he’s also the one that you’d want on your team.

  2. R.ELI says:

Rondo is going to be hurting in the morning

  3. marcus the great says:

and Tony Allen must be wearin horse blinders, he’s shootin EVERYtime he gets the ball

  4. that's whats up says:

Delonte West got up there, but Leon Powe crammed (near) on him – it was nasty

  5. MC3PO says:

Mo Williams: 3 for 8, 1 assist, 9 points. It’s like Mike Brown sat him down and said, “Listen, we lost Larry Hughes. We need someone to fill in his shoes. You’re our man.”

Don’t worry, Mo’s on it, coach.

  6. MC3PO says:

Shoot, maybe he just read my post…

  7. Jeffrey says:

For whatever reason, Anderson Varejao is one of the most sloppiest, clumsy basketball players i’ve ever seen. Is it my imagination or does coach mike brown actually have a use for him?

  8. dagwaller says:

Hahaha, MC3PO, you’re right. I’m not surprised at all that Rajon outplayed Mo.

Jeffrey, I was watching the game and thinking something similar, except I was thinking that it was a good thing. Varejao would make an excellent complementary player on any team. He’s a great hustle player. Unfortunately for him, the Cavs don’t have very many guys that are very graceful, especially at the offensive end.

Imagine him as the backup PF for the Suns. He’d be able to get garbage transition buckets, and he could play the gritty kind of D that they need.

Again, though, the Cavs haven’t established themselves as a fastbreaking team, but they play that gritty defense. So he’s kind of superfluous on that team, in my opinion. A good player, but superfluous.

Did anyone catch the alley oop to Lebron in the 1st quarter?!?!?

His entire head was above the rim. I knew he could get up, but that was amazing.

Poor foul shooting though on Lebron’s part.

One thing I noticed was Mo Williams being a leader on the floor, from directing the offense, to huddling the Cavs on the court, to actively talking to teammates during stoppages.

  10. Kobeef says:

    @Dennis

Leader? What the hell game are you watching? Mo has more turnovers than assists and took the most shots of anyone not names Lebron..and missed 60% of them. This is the Mo we all know from Milwaukee…enjoy the ride Lebron.

  11. it ain't easy being green says:

wow. thank god Lebron can’t hit clutch free throws. Thus far….. ….undefeated. Rondo gonna need some motrin in the a.m.

Looked a lil sloppy on both ends at times, but I like the W none the less. Love when leon boomed on delante. T.Allen was playin reckless. Throwin up some uglyness and I wanted to see eddie house wet a few of those open treys he missed but hey, a W’s a W.

I’m out like a Lebron freethrow attempt in the 4th.

  12. Kudabeen says:

Bron’s legs are pogo sticks…That one semi break when Mo tossed it back to LeBron and in stride he just exploded into a smooth finish. He might be the fastest/most explosive in the league.

  13. Dennis Castro says:

Kobeef, give MoWill a little time to gel with the Cavs. You can’t expect him to hit the ground running from game 1.

I’m talking from a leadership standpoint. The key to an effective leader is communication, which he was doing last night.

Usually when you watch the Cavs, who’s the one doing all of the communicating between teammates? Lebron. Just different to see someone else step up and assume a leadership role. That’s more of what I was refering to.

  14. Juanito says:

Rondo is a huge piece of shit. Please stop posting about him…
