Spike Lee: LeBron Wants to Play For the Knicks

LeBron JamesHow does blue and orange look?

At the Kia NBA Tip-Off in Union Square this morning, we caught up with the legendary filmmaker/diehard Knick fan Spike Lee, who was at his absolute best. Truthfully, this is the perfect time of year to talk to Spike, as the Knicks haven’t had a chance to lose a game yet. Though he’s not exactly happy with the Knicks after cutting Patrick Ewing, Jr., he is optimistic about this season and the future of the franchise because of one very good reason.

Dime: What do you think about this year’s team?
Spike Lee: I’m totally disgusted with the Knicks cutting Patrick Ewing, Jr. I don’t understand that. I don’t understand it. The guy can play. I mean he can play, he wants to play. You can’t teach that – somebody who wants to play, somebody who would go through a brick wall to help their team. And I don’t think that people count the fact that he’s Patrick Ewing‘s son. Come on.

I don’t understand that move. I’m not trying to blast Donnie Walsh or Coach D’Antoni, I’m not looking to blow up their spot. But it seems to me they could have found a space for him.

Dime: How do you feel about the changes that Mike D’Antoni is bringing?
SL: I’m very excited. I’m going to be at the home opener tomorrow night. Dwyane Wade looks like he’s back after a great Beijing. But I’m optimistic. I’m optimistic every season. You have to be. If you’re a true sports fan, you support your team – at the beginning of the year, you hope for the best. Then you start losing, haha. But I think it’s a welcome change.

We’ll see what happens. What I’m going – what’s important is that we have to clear the cap to get LeBron and also still have a team that he wants to play for. He’s not going to come here with no chance of winning a ring. You have to have cap space and players.

Dime: What has LeBron said to you?
SL: He wants to come to New York. He told me people are putting this stuff about him coming to Brooklyn because of Jay-Z. First of all, this Brooklyn thing is no wrap. That’s not a done deal. Hova’s his boy, but that’s not going to determine where he leaves, if he chooses to do so.

I hate Spike Lee, I just find him to be super annoying…

Also he says “And I don’t think that people count the fact that he’s Patrick Ewing’s son. Come on”.

OK so the NBA players who have Daddy’s that played should also get on a team cause of Daddy. It’s obvious that Pat Jr. didn’t get any of his daddy’s game.

Why didn’t the Knicks hire Spike Lee to be GM? He apparently is their public spokesman. This guy couldn’t be a bigger homer.

  • The Real Tyrone

Ain’t no doubt that King’s gonna be rockin’ for them Knicks real soon y’all. Ain’t no way Bron can resist The City.

    True thugs never lie.

  • QQ

In the mystical dreamland named Spike Lee’s Mind, everyone wants to play for the Knicks. Including Reggie Miller.

  • Marcus

“OK so the NBA players who have Daddy’s that played should also get on a team cause of Daddy. ”

Humm.. if thats the case then maybe when Seattle gets a new team it can be made up of only Shawn Kemps kids? It can’t fail!

On a more serious note..can’t wait to see the backlash in Cleveland over this.

  • Bronx Streetball

But how would the Cavs feel? On top of that–the fans??

Now, their superhero lost to the Big Apple…again, it gives small town people another reason to hate big cities like NY

  • dukesman2000

Kinck fans, don’t hold your breath

  • Big Shot BOB

Do the Right thing Spike!!! I like Pat Jr. he hustles on every play but he doesn’t have his fathers height. Plus who would you take off the Knicks roster to make room?

  • Rob

    Cuz True Thugs never lie

  • Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09)

I meant to say the players who have NBA daddy’s. Notice the Coby Carl got cut to… Spike needs to just shut his annoying trap.

Cleveland is not a “small town”.

Anyone who believes a word of this verbal diarehha from Spike Lee is an absolute idiot. This shitbird had his shining moment against Reggie and Reggie made him look like a little fag. Spike keep as far away from Lebron as humanly possible, becuase the last thing Cleveland wants is your greasy act ruining Lebrons career

  • Dom D

Tyrone you need to get your head checked because obviously its up your ass quite a ways!

    Dom D’s right on. Spike’s a joke…

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com Mike

Spike was even running this game on Morning Joe (not sure if anyone has heard of the MSNBC morning show) and was talking LeBron there too. I have to admit, I’m a realist and just hope Cavs GM Danny Ferry makes sure he gets LBJ enough help to win it all before he skips town in two years.

  • http://www.waitingfornextyear.com DP @ WFNY

Someone needs to remind Spike that all the cap space in the world doesn’t allow the Knicks to offer LBJ more money than the Cavs can, and the Global Icon isn’t leaving a top-4 team in his conference PLUS the extra $20+ mills sitting on the table to play for the freaking Knicks.

  • control

All of this hype is because of the typical NY media self glorification of NY. NY people think they are the hottest shit since sliced bread, they think that EVERYONE wants to come to NY. NY and everyone in it has “Paris Hilton Syndrome”, the belief that everyone gives a shit about them, while the reality is they are mindless pieces of shit.

  • Three Stacks

So you’re saying if you were possibly the best basketball player in the world, and you’ve made it known publicly a countless number of times that 1) you love to market yourself, and 2) NY is your favorite city, you’re completely gonna ignore a max offer from the Knicks?

Lebron ain’t stupid, if the Knicks (or Nets) have cap space and a team with roughly the same amount of ability as the Cavs, he’s probably gonna bolt. But if both those teams suck, I don’t think he jumps ship.

Still, if Lebron is playing in NY, think of all the free agents they could sign. I say he goes.

  • BxBaller

The Knicks could’ve cut Anthony Roberson or Jerome James to make room for Ewing Jr. And F the haters, Spike is a REAL fan, not soe bandwagon bitch.

For the Record, I don’t want LeBron with the Knicks. Because he’s gonna bring all his bandwagon fans and dickhoppers with him, and I don’t want that.

NY is the shytt control…Arguably the most important city in the world…I get ur point though i hate arrogant NY phuckers too, even though people call me one..

  • Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09)

    Justice says–

“I get ur point though i hate arrogant NY phuckers too, even though people call me one..”

I don’t live in NY, but I understand they say the same things about us people from LA… Just Like Kobe, damn right I’m arrogant!

  • http://GEE2.com GEE…America…Get Busy Humpty…

Spike is cool man. He just speaking his mind. If Jack had said that about the Lakers it would be aight too. I ain’t hating on dude. I hate they got rid of PE2 also.

  • http://mvn.com/cavalierattitude Amar Panchmatia

I am appalled by this garbage. The closest that LeBron will get to wearing blue and orange is when the Cavs wear their late-80’s/early-90’s throwback jerseys.
