Stephon Marbury On The Inactive List
First D’Antoni wouldn’t put him in, now he won’t even have the chance.
After sitting the entire game on Wednesday in a win against the Heat, Stephon Marbury met with Coach today and asked if he was going to play against the Sixers tonight. When he was told that he’d be kickin’ it with Jerome James on the pine all game, Starbury apparently requested to be put on the inactive list.
What’s the next move for Steph and the Knicks?

I don’t see the point in keeping a player that you just don’t want. Much more so if that player is making 20 million dollars per year.

I heard the Knicks were trading him to some team in the MBL (Mongolian Basketball League). Maybe even that’s not far enough away….

This had to be done…I don’t feel bad for Marbury at all. There’s going to be a lot of wailing in nyc about this only because the knicks are still a bad team, and it’s arguable it could have been handled better. Kudos to D’Antoni for doing what he had to.

What’s up with the report I heard on ESPN radio today???
Something to the effect of: Marbury asks D’Antoni if he was going to get some minutes. D’Antoni tells Steph yes, that he will play. When Steph hears this, he quickly ASKS D’Antoni to deactivate him…..
That’s the story I heard….

Dave says:
This situation is ridiculous. Is there anyone in management who can justify their high salaries by resolving this? Its clear that Steph has to go, and you can’t tell me that no team would be willing to take a risk on a player who has always produced on the floor.

it’s seems like the Knicks don’t see Marbury to be part of their future, at least according to D’Antoni. Now you have a healthy, 20 million a yr player that’s not even playing.
Trade him, waive him, buy him out, whatever. Steph’s capable of helping other teams. If the Knicks don’t see him being part of the plan, then let him go so that he can be somewhere helping teams out. Steph is still a really good player in my book, and I hate to see a player of his ability being buried by the organization that doesn’t want him around…

Celts Fan says:
@Dave – that’s a great thought, but why trade for him when people think he’ll be bought out anyway? How much would you give up for him after all the problems he’s caused? Steph won’t accept a buyout that’s 1 cent less than he’s making this year, so I’m glad to see a team finally have some balls. He’s a cancer, he’s not willing to come off the bench (last year anyway) and is just a malcontent. If no one wants to trade for him and he won’t take a reasonable buyout, then just let his ass rot at the end of the bench. The checks are still coming, so there’s nothing wrong with it. If you want minutes, EARN THEM, otherwise, you’ll be the richest able-bodied bench rider in history that didn’t have a legit drug/drinking problem, so at least he’s got that going for him…
