The Adam Morrison Experiment might be over
“The Crow” with Dime ChinaWally Szczerbiak. Danny Ferry. Mike Dunleavy Jr. Christian Laettner. Troy Murphy. Andrew Gaze. And now, the time has come to toss Adam Morrison’s name on top of that pile of “Next Larry Bird“-types who went bust in the NBA.
Two years after the Bobcats spent the No. 3 overall pick on the ex-Gonzaga superstar, and one year after he suffered a major knee injury that probably made him even slower and less assertive than before, Charlotte may have already given up on Morrison. The team just picked up Morrison’s fourth-year option ($5.2 million), and according to the Charlotte Observer, took another step closer to trading him: One, because Morrison is now an attractive expiring contract in 2010 (when everyone wants cap space), and two, because getting him signed for ‘09-10 takes away his veto rights on a trade this season.
“We have a lot of (shooting guards and small forwards) on this team. That’s obvious even if you didn’t know our team. Just look at the roster,” Morrison told the Observer. “There’s really not anything you can do about (trades). It’s a cliché about every sports league, but it is a business. They’ve got to win and they’ve got to address the issues.”
Keep in mind also that Larry Brown has made it clear he wants the ‘Cats to attack the basket more and not settle for as many jumpers, which doesn’t fit Morrison’s game at all.
Is there a place for Adam Morrison on your team?

He was a MONSTER in college. But that first year in the NBA coupled with his injury probably ruined his confidence. Hard to discount a guy after one bad year . . . but I saw almost no flashes of brilliance from him in his first year. I hope he gets another shot at it though, he was just that good in college.

Ain’t no doubt that Morrison is gonna go down as one of them biggest draft busts y’all. He ain’t go no moves, can’t defend his own shadow and can’t even get no buckets. He’ll be getting them dollahs from his rookie contract and once that shit’s over, cat’s probably gonna head to Europe and play in them punkass leagues.
True thugs never lie.

A-Slam says:
Adam Morrison can play, it’s just all about the situation he’s in in Charlotte right now. The team and Larry Brown’s system just doesn’t fit him at all. He needs a team that fits his role, I liked him in college and i’m not going to give up on him yet. He has heart which alot of players don’t have. But I also believe the Larry Bird comparisons need to be shed, Larry Bird was an all time great and not nearly any of these guys will be better than him. Even Dirk who people sometimes compare to Bird is nowhere near Bird’s level. Those are big shoes to fill, so the comparisons need to stop so that a heavy load is lifted from these guys shoulders.

@YOUNGFED — Dunleavy Jr is OK, but he’s not playing up to being a #3 pick, and definitely not matching the hype that surrounded him coming into the League.

Just like any Black, bald, two-guard who can dunk gets compared to Michael Jordan, any White, 6-6 to 6-10 forward who can shoot gets compared to Larry Bird (bonus points if he has floppy hair). It’s never gonna stop.

There is way too much hatin’ on Adam Morrison. Granted he may not have deserved the #3 pick, but he still averaged 11.8 ppg his rookie season. Check his draft class, the only dudes better are Aldridge, Roy, Gay, Brewer, Farmar, Millsap, and Powe. #8 best in his class aint terrible, it’s way too early to give up on him.

I’m not saying Morrison is ever gonna do anything in the league, but I would like to see him get some backup minutes on a team like the hornets, lakers or spurs.
To be fair you can’t clump dunleavy or szczerbiak in that group. They have both played good ball in the league. Other than Caron, Amare or Prince who would you have wanted to take from that class? Juanny? Nene?

Spliff 2 My Lou says:
Morrison may not be a star or starter for that matter in the L but he could be a role player (shooter) off the bench.
I do agree with C Burner that there is way too much hatin’ on Morrison going on this early in his career. He didn’t draft himself. If you’re gonna hate on somebody hate on the Charlotte front office or coaches or whoever made that decision. He may never live up to be the player that everybody envisioned while he was in college but he still has time to prove that he is.
Let me just add that terrible teams like Charlotte are a breeding ground for mediocrity. Who knows, on a better team Morrison could have a role more suited to his strengths i.e. Kyle Korver in Utah.

He didn’t impress me all that much in college. I didn’t get a sense when he was drafted that he’d do much in the league either. I’m still waiting for him to do something, but to be fair, he hasn’t played enough for me to tell what he can contribute as an NBA player.
I agree with post #34 though. He should be able to at least get some backup minutes somewhere. I don’t think my Warriors and Raptors need a player like him though, they’re good for shooters who don’t play defense.

For those that don’t know (and what wikipedia or google won’t tell you) Andrew Gaze is a LEGEND. Give you 40 easy, wouldn’t even break a sweat.
Ya’ll need to pay more attention to Australian hoops. People are balling down there. The league itself sucks ass though. No finances. No TV/Marketing. But guys get busy in that league.

Andrew Gaze is one of Australia’s best basketball players, if not the best. He won multiple rings in the Australian league with the Melbourne tigers and represented Australia in the Olympics several times.
Great shooter, high bball IQ, amazing austrailan and international career.
He rode the bench with the spurs on one of their title runs late in his career. He would have been the backup SG but they signed steve kerr who took his spot (from memory) and that buried him deep in the rotation.

Becoming a spot up shooter like Korver as the #3 pick in the draft isn’t exactly living up to expectations. But that might be the only way he finds a niche in the L.

Morrison never impressed me coming out of college. he sucked as a defender, he was an average ball handler at best still couldnt create his own shot. he was a volume shooter which meant it was goin up regardless of if it was a good or bad shot. he never even looked like he worked on his game. great players diverify their games..he went for attempts over %…i can at least say the Redick had a better shot selection and he was a little more athletic than Morrison…cut ya hair and mustache, get ya ass in the weight room and start working on your game
