The Next Big Thing: Jayshawn Augusto

11-year-old Jayshawn Augusto is better than you. At 4-9, this baller/track standout rarely misses a shot and can run a 4:40 mile. Yea, you’d didn’t misread that. 4:40. He’s set to break the world record for his age this year. Did I mention his aerobic metabolism is such that he hardly even sweats?

  2. James F. Carter says:

He could give Eric Snow buckets right now.

  3. rockstar says:

  4. fallinup says:

I wonder how well the kid can read?

  5. G Lu says:

fallinup You’re a HATER.. You think a kid this disiplined at such a young age can’t learn to read?? I see you know how to read, and have done enough studying to earn your PHD.

  6. srb says:

Did Dime already post this once? I’ve seen it before and I think it was linked from Dime..

  7. bballinca says:

4:40 mile is just insane for most people let alone his age!

  8. Jim says:

I’m pretty sure he can read just fine considering pops has him doing legit fundamental drills and not looking like he wants to be Hot Sauce.

The real question is…doesn’t everyone know what 21 is? KOMO viewers have to hear 2-on-1 make it take it?

  9. Kobeef says:

“I don’t push him” except the 100 sit-ups and 200 push-ups before bed each night and 4 hours of practice each day and making the kid have the same hair style as me.

  10. MoxWestCoastRep says:

    This is a re-post.
    The kid is amazing tho

  11. QuEsT??? says:

this kid will be good, but if we ever played together and he tried to shoot, i would block his shot all the way to the parking lot

  12. bballinca says:

Someone is trying to live their dreams through their kid.

  13. king ralf says:

    welcome to the internet

  14. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

    I second bballinca

  15. M Intellect says:

Please god forgive me for being jealous….

  16. fallinup says:

Don’t get me wrong, this kid is waaaay good. The video and the news story proves that. It’s not hate to wonder if this kid is this good because of him or some outside force that’s making him this good. In that sense, why is it so bad to ask how well this kid can read?

He is 11 years old ya know. I believe kobeef’s (#9) response was quite accurate.

  17. Timmy says:

Yo dime you shouldnt set these kids up.. the odds are he will fall.. i’m not a hater, but put an age limit on these articles, maybe puberty!!

looking forward to seeing this kid in college, and hopefully he gets his degree..

  18. SayItAintSo says:

Hopefully he commits to play just down the street…we’re in poor form for UW athletics this seaso…err, decade.

  19. Tim says:

    i could out rebound him…

  20. solomon says:

eddy curry could have him for lunch… literally…

  21. Mark says:

4:50 mile, not that it makes any difference.

I remember seeing this video awhile back. Amazing kid. Hope he stays on track and doesn’t get into trouble.

  22. jnuh says:

He did almost all of those dribbling drills with his head down.

    Weak.

  23. tealish says:

It’s hard to tell if his 3 pointers were consecutive or not, but if they were — that’s the most impressive skill he has so far. The dribbling is nice, but really just average for relatively skilled players his age.

  24. USA < International all stars says:

Dime is getting so bad lately. I mean, the kid in this video is now like 15. Who ever posted this vid should be fired.

  25. chrisGO says:

    LOL. true.

  26. Hoopmaster1126 says:

they say his dad dosnt push him then the very next clip they show him whipping tennis balls at him

  27. hazlett says:

i doubt his mile time its hard to belive he runs it that fast and there is no videos of him running it on the internet

  28. Richard says:

OOO forget basketball! a 4:40 mile? at 16 or 17 he might be at 3:30!!!!!!!

  29. Chris says:

He is not 15 now, seeing how that video was made in October of 2008, and he was 11. Do your math the kid is 12 now, and he still has a lot of years of basketball ahead of him. He can only get better.
