The Next Scottie Pippen
Jeff Green (photo. David Deal)Jeff Green will be the Scottie Pippen to Kevin Durant’s Michael Jordan. At least that’s what they think in Oklahoma City. Which is fine. Totally unfair of course, but Thunder fans are allowed to be excited about their squad.
To the credit of KD and Green, they’re not eating up the comparisons. From today’s Oklahoman:
“I wouldn’t say we’re anywhere near close to them,” Durant said. “We’re not even in the same sentence with those two. But we’re both from the same area (Washington, D.C.). We’re building some chemistry. We’ve grown together as best friends. We try to help each other and hope to stay together for a while.”
Durant does go on to say though that Green does remind him a lot of Scottie:
There are similarities between Green and Pippen. Both were selected No. 5 overall. One reason Green admired Pippen was he played multiple positions and was a perennial all-defensive player best known for his all-round game.
“I think (Green) plays just like Pippen,” Durant said. “I can see him growing into a player like that. I’ll be excited to see his game a couple of years from now. With some of the other pieces we have, if me and Jeff continue to grow, continue to get better, this team can go very far.”
As you can see below, they’re not exactly the same player, but Green has loads of potential.

I agree with Nola it’s like the Rondo post….well not that bad. Jeff Green has potential, holla back when he learns to play D and is averaging 20pts 7 rebs 5assts and 3 steals a game and does that for about 5 consecutive seasons. Then maybe he can just begin to be compared with Pippen.

Dagomar says:
Durant seems like a really well-spoken guy. I wonder how many of you read the title and didn’t read the article. Durant said Green might grow into a Pippin-like player someday, but that neither he nor Green could be mentioned in the same sentence as Jordan or Pippin right now. Anybody who follows the NBA knows both Durant and Green have mad potential. So what’s the deal?

i dont think they will be like them but i do think that green will be very good and durant will be great. OKC should keep them forever because they are both solid building blocks.

@Dagomar
You just said it. They don’t deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as MJ & Pip RIGHT NOW. Hey, guess where we are now? We are in the right now.

Cordell says:
Got to get people to read I guess. Here is the problem. Offensively Green can be Pippen. Offensively Durant can get close to Jordan’s numbers. Problem is there is another end of the court. Pip and Jordan were arguably the greatest perimeter defenders in thier era. That is the area that will always seperate wings from those two. Offensively they were killer, defensively they were nearly equal. Green and Durant are light years behind in that category and that is the other half of the game.
