TNT to Broadcast Outdoor NBA Game

NBA on TNT

After some speculation and rumors about it happening, TNT issued a press release this morning confirming that the October 11th pre-season game between the Suns and the Nuggets will be played outside at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Ca.

The first-ever outdoor NBA game will get the full TNT treatment for the broadcast, but will feature Marv, Charles and Reggie Miller doing the announcing.

Obviously, the NHL’s success with their outdoor games prompted this move, but tell us what you think - Will an outdoor game get you to tune in to a pre-season exhibition?

  1. David Brandon says:

i’d watch a preseason game regardless. its hoop. if its a good game, why not watch it? if i can watch the ass kicking of a game last night w/ portland and sac, i’m pretty sure i can stand to watch denver and phoenix…

  2. Jah says:

    Not…really.

  3. Kudabeen says:

There goes Nash’s Back, Shaq’s everything, Amare’s knee, Kenyon’s knee, Iverson’s Tats are getting scrapped…

I wonder how hard they are going to go. IT was already pre-season, now it’s outdoors? That is a tough sell. I’d be surprised if starters play more than 110-15mins (especially Nash, Shaq, Kenyon, and Amare.

  4. Kudabeen says:

I’m with David, I’d watch any way. I’d watch practice, one on one, horse, freethrow shooting drills and anything basketball…

One day I may be running camps and coaching, so I love anything that the best are doing and soak it up…

  5. ObservantOne says:

I think it’s a cool idea. Change is a comin’.

  6. Kudabeen says:

Oh and Don’t forget the WNBA did this with a regular season game which went over really well.

  7. Kudabeen says:

    I meant 10-15 minutes, not 110!!

  8. Michorizo says:

It’s not a real outdoor game unless you look into the crowd and you have homies drinking a 40 while watching while another homie is rolling a fat ass blunt and repeatedly saying last game, just cuz he wants to spark the reefer. I doubt TNT is really having an outdoor game!

  9. YOUNGFED says:

Good move by the NBA. BTW Detroit SHOCK City!!!! WNBA Champs. Had to put that out there

  10. the antoine says:

indian wells casino? thats right in the middle of the desert.. smooth move.. old ass suns are gonna be dying out there.. and the broadcasters are going to be melting in their suits..

  11. Jimmhumm says:

    yes it will!

  12. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

Nash should play 20 min… He plays soccer with his homies in the off season and don’t a whole bunch of NBA cats play at Ruckers during the summer? What’s the difference? They are both on asphalt.

  13. ATL says:

the game is gonna be on hardwood. they wouldn’t let the players play on concrete.

  14. webbie352 says:

    no talk about oden’s debut.

but make sure to mention he was doing it aganist hawes ;)

  15. dapro says:

That’s mos def a good look for the league

It caters to hardcore bball fans and those who who love streetball. I can guarantee that someone pulls an “skip’ move out of the bag. It’s a given when playing outside.

  16. dh says:

i live 5 minutes from the tennis gardens and i’d have to guess it will be about 80 degrees tops when they play.
its a huge difference from an air conditioned gym though.

it’d be funny if the wind picks up and throws off all their shots!

  17. SteveNash says:

    yes

  18. GEE...Hooligaaaaaaanss! says:

Yea fa sho! That sounds like a good look, I am just glad the season is back. Olympics was a nice filler in the middle. Pre-season then season!!! It’s all good!

  19. Chaos says:

man if they were gonna do that they should have done it at a famous/ infamous playground court like Run and Shoot, Somewhere in NY or a LA beach court. that would have been nice. not in the damn desert…at least shaq would sweat off at least 20 lbs

  20. David Brandon says:

what up GEE! how ya doin man? you been gone for a bit…the kids tie you up?

  21. david says:

@Michorizo: What the fuck are you talking about? A “real” outdoor game is 40’s and blunts? You’re an idiot.

  22. RonNation says:

ya i would prob watch this regardless of it being outdoors or not

  23. se7enboy says:

you said “The first-ever outdoor NBA game will get the full TNT treatment for the broadcast…”

It is not the first-ever, there was one like 35 years ago according to what NBA.com said…

  24. that's whats up says:

well, with the wind as a factor, Shaq may actually make a couple of free-throws

  25. Kudabeen says:

    ATL:

That’s a good look then. I think the WNBA was on hardwood too.

  26. that's whats up says:

….I can’t wait to see Craig Sager’s “summer outfit”.

50 bucks he wears a grass skirt

  27. asmaticasiatic says:

Anything involved with hoop I’m watching; I’ll even watch a few minutes of slamball if I can’t find anything else. It should be interesting to see if ballin’ outdoors effects anybodies game….

  28. GEE...Hooligaaaaaaanss! says:

David Brandon what up pimpin. Yeaaaa man it’s funny cause I used to be on here like everyday all day and now I hardly have room to breath. It’s crazy.

  31. parinaz suns says:

  32. kowtz says:

I’d rather see that than an WNBA game…

  33. smity far away says:

    definately. i’d watch…

  34. djKianoosh says:

I watch any basketball that TNT puts on. they know how to do it. ABC/ESPN would screw it up though.
