The Blazers Go to Work
Here’s a quick video of the first day of practice of everybody’s new favorite team, the Portland Trail Blazers. Some quick takeaways (or as much as you can take away from Day One):
- No Greg Oden
- Aside from a long LaMarcus Aldridge jumper, there are lots of missed shots (again, first day and it’s the way the video was edited)
- It looks like Jerry Bayless is running with the first and second units. About halfway through the clip, they go through a set that has Bayless running baseline off multiple screens to get him in a spot for a jumper or an iso on his man on the wing. If they’re putting that in the first day of practice, you can probably assume Jerryd will be a big part of the offense this season, even if he’s coming off the bench.

The first practice and Jerryd is already rolling his eyes at teammates missing shots of his possible assist?? I guess that means he is a competitor, but leader? We’ll see. Good to see Roy is back…

Wow, they really do need Oden. Does anybody drive to the hoop on this team, or what?! I know it’s just practice, but no one was even cutting towards the basket.
I can’t wait to see this team get good though, they are going to be an exciting bunch, methinks.

what difference does it makes if its first day, and they miss so many jumpers. it’s not like they’ve spend whole summer in weight room pumping iron and doing nothing else. but again, it could be that editing showed only misses.

It was not an edit, it was the last 10 minutes or so of the scrimmage something like that.
