We Reminisce: Allan Houston drops 53 on threepeat Lakers
It’s not official, and the Knicks will probably pay Allan Houston the respect of making it look like it was his decision, but it’s nonetheless obvious to anyone who’s been following H20’s comeback attempt that he’s just not cut out to make this New York roster. So before Houston’s career comes to its likely conclusion, let’s look back his glory days in blue and orange. On Feb. 16, 2003, Houston lit up the threepeat-defending champion Lakers for 53 points (18-for-29 FG’s, 4-for-5 3PA, 13-for-15 FT’s) and carried a Knicks team that had Howard Eisley and Othella Harrington in the starting lineup to a win. Houston’s counterpart, Kobe Bryant, scored 40 in the loss, while an injured Shaq didn’t play.

I remember this game. I was stuck watching ESPN the next day, and saw the SportsCenter recap about 6 times.

Austin Burton says:
@webbie — Spurs won it this year (famous shot of Kobe and Fisher crying when San Antonio knocked them out of the playoffs), then the Lakers reloaded with GP and Malone, then Kobe got into his Colorado trouble, then the Pistons won the following year.

@Austin
lol! I remember that playoff game, too, with the Lakers crying. I saw that about 15 times on the Spurs Championship DVD. It just never gets old.

a good reminder of how Houston was more than just a shooter. He’s actually got some moves…I wasn’t able to watch much of his game until his knicks days…
what stands out to me though, is Kobe’s ability to score in multiple ways – post up, footwork, turnaround shot, pump fake, pull-up..etc.
Thx for the great clip.
