Which City Needs an NBA Championship the Most?

Dirk NowitzkiHow badly does Big D want a chip?

Right now, Philadelphia is drunk with joy. The blue collar city that brought you freedom is currently in the middle of a championship parade 28 years in the making. Though an Eagles chip could legitimately cause the city to crumble to the ground, this is pretty much as raucous as it gets.

The last three major sports championships have sent shockwaves through their respective cities (Philadelphia, Boston, and New York), which satisfied each city’s crazy hunger for success. Now that the Celtics rabid fan base got theirs, what city is most desperately in need of an NBA Championship?

* San Francisco – At the Warriors home opener, TNT’s cameras caught like five different fans who had dyed their hair and shaved something like “GSW,” a basketball, or “Warriors” in their head. Not only do those haircuts make the Heat’s team mohawks look normal, but they also show just how crazy this fan base is.

* Toronto – Canada counts.

* New York – It doesn’t matter if the Giants win every year for the next 20 years, the faithful at MSG wouldn’t be content until the Knicks take one home.

* Dallas – They made it close enough to taste it in ‘05-06, and then were embarrassed by the Warriors in ‘07-08. Add in that they’ve never won one and Mark Cuban would sell his soul for a title, and the Mavs are as desperate as any team in the League.

    New York.

CLeveland–44 years without a title. 3 sport town, diehard, drive through sleet FANS…had our football team taken, nobody can really beat us on bad luck. All we got are the Buckeyes, and they got beat in 3 out of the last 4 NCAA championship games….give it up for true hardknock fanhood, and stop bitchin about the Knicks, when the Yabnkees and Giants have recent hardware.

  3. Austin Burton says:

    Seattle.

But we’ll just take a team in the meantime.

  4. SmartAss says:

    Clippers.
    Bucks.

  5. sans says:

It’s not event hat we don’t field competitive teams–they’re just 2nd best at their best.

  6. David Brandon says:

    SAC.

ESPECIALLY the way we got robbed in ‘02… i’ma have to call shenanigans on that one, man. lol

the bay area (oakland or sf)

  9. Lauri says:

I say Cleveland cuz if they don’t win they r gonna lose Lebron

  10. SeanD says:

“Canada counts”? WTF does that mean? Where’s the effort? Let’s try again, shall we?

Toronto – In a city where hockey comes first, second and third, the story of when the Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup is sounding more and more like the fairy tale you tell your grandkids. The Blue Jays have lost all the lustre from their last World Championship and they’re still waiting for Ralph Wilson to die so the city can get a real football team. The addition of Jermaine O’Neal was a move made to win now and the Raptors fans are ready to support a championship run, or at least a sprint past the first round of the playoffs.

  11. JHov says:

New Orleans..hands down!! What city has been through more ish in a ten year span? They almost loss the Saints not once but twice(to Mississippi and then to San Antonio) Then the Saints actually look like they are on their way then the season starts!(you know the rest) The Hornets come to town with minimal fanfare but then by winning they give the city something to believe in and rally around.(post Katrina)If the Hornets were able to claim a NBA Championship it would do wonders for the city and people that live their!

Plus the city has NEVER won a professional sports championship..ever! nuff said..

  12. Gay4Rudy says:

I think Cleveland “deserves” one. Especially since their guy is about to bolt for the Nets. Not to mention that their D-Bag is the ultimate front-runner (Cowboys & Yankees fan). FU Lebron.

  13. Big T says:

    Toronto sucks.

I’m pulling for my Lakers. Kobe will win his 2nd MVP award, and add another chip to his resume this year.

  14. Gay4Rudy says:

Hey SeanD… No one gives an S about Canada or an S a-boot what you’re talking a-boot… hoser.

  15. Gay4Rudy says:

Big T is obviously a dumb-f*ck. The question is: who deserves a championship? Not who are you rooting for… stupid d*ck licker!

  16. Michorizo says:

Didn’t the Monarchs already win a championship for Sacramento?

  17. James says:

  19. SayItAintSo says:

AB hit the nail square on the head. Seattle desperately needs a victory…we’ll take a team, a winning season, something, anything at this point.

P.S. The Storm do not count as a professional sports team, thereby negating their accomplishments in the past decade.

  20. Sam I Am says:

    LOL Austin you crazy man

    Bitter i see

  21. srb says:

    Boston

  22. Austin Burton says:

I honestly have no problem with the WNBA, but if I hear one more person say, “Well, we still have the Storm…” I see myself attending a lot of UW basketball games.

  23. Desrat says:

NO first, and Seattle gets back a team in the L. That would be a victory right now.

The Storm count dude. It is just because Bennet did not think they did that we still have them.

  24. TXBOY23 says:

    San Antonio fa sho!!!

  25. Drink the Haterade (Kobe Rocks) says:

    @ JHov

  26. JHov says:

    @ Drink the Haterade

But there is nothing left in NO to destroy!(joking)The city actually looks alot better than ppl would think but sports fans in LA are suffering they need a title..not everyone in Louisiana is a LSU fan!

  27. alimoe says:

  28. Sam I Am says:

    MIAMI

    They need to redeem themselves.

  33. Ian says:

san antonio and cardinals (baseball) its been a year

  34. Tbone says:

Toronto is pretty far off-base. Really, really far off base. This is evidenced by the lack of description “Canada counts” ….?? c’MON, you guys are better than this, or at least you used to be.

    DENVER

We haven’t had a chip in any sport since Elway took us to the promised land.

    Nuggets need a CHIP!!!!!!!!

  35. QuEsT??? says:

    san juan puerto rico

  36. Aaron says:

The Suns have been around forever with no chip. We need one!

  37. MissChick says:

    Los Angeles.

  38. Amar says:

    oakland raiders . . . .wait, what?

seriously, I think Utah needs it so the fans of the jazz can stop spazzing out about every slight (real or imagined) and grow up. (and this is coming from a jazz fan, who, btw, doesn’t live in utah, has never been there, and isn’t mormon) unlike the charlotte hornets franchise that moved to New orleans, the jazz have an actual history of winning games in the playoffs and going to the finals and stuff. they deserve it more than new orleans . . . if we’re going to award trophies to places that have problems where’s Darfur’s ring? or bangaldesh?

  39. Peter Robert Casey says:

While I’d love to see NY win, I think Charlotte absolutely needs a title.

  40. SayItAintSo says:

    @ AB

Yeah, I’m looking forward to UW basketball too. I’ve actually been seeing myself attending a lot of basketball games ever since our first football game.

Abdul Gaddy! I. Thomas 2.0! We’ll atleast be mediocre and win a few games…anything is an upgrade after such an atrocious football season.

  41. dat dood says:

    sf

  42. S-SiN says:

Phoenix and Denver never had one, but i say PHO cuz they deserve it moew with 2 memorable finals trips

  43. S-SiN says:

right. utah has to in the conversation

  44. Austin Burton says:

@SayItAintSo — Is Brockman coming back for his 7th year of eligibility to play with Gaddy?

  45. chris says:

Bruins need to win a championship…new england just started winning in 2001 with the pats, who were one of the worst teams in the league until that point…before that the celtics hadn’t won since 86…red sox went over 80 years without a championship…boston has the most die hard fans in the country…If the bruins win soon we will solidify our dominance as the most prominant sports city in the nation
