Who Would Benefit Most From Playing Under Mike D’Antoni?
Before I could finish asking Quentin Richardson who on the Knicks has been the most impressive so far this preseason, he cut me off.
“I called it,” says Q. “I knew he would have the biggest effect with this type of system. It’s Nate. As soon as we got D’Antoni, I knew he would thrive in the system. I played in it. I knew that was the one thing Nate really needed for his career. I think it’s straight uphill for him from here.”
Aside from the marquee names, Nate Robinson has been one of the most talked-about players this preseason. He’s averaging 19.6 points on 47% shooting from the field, and has the confidence of a go-to scorer. His impact even extends into the Knicks’ marketing plan: they’ve redone the pre-game video to include like 15 shots of Nate screaming after a dunk, a blocked shot, a made jumper, a rebound, and maybe even a substitution.
If the run-and-gun offensive onslaught can revolutionize Nate Robinson’s career, turning him from a peripheral NBA player to a key component of their team basically overnight, imagine what this system could do for someone else.
Of everyone in the League, who would benefit the most from playing under Mike D’Antoni?

What would Lebron or Kobe be like in that system. Or the young J-Will.

JHov says:
Allen Iverson would thrive in this system simply because of the way he plays now..not being bother with things like having to play defense and not worried about turnovers anymore. D’Antoni’s system is perfect for A.I. and J.R. Smith for that matter

Gerald Green has been playing well in Dallas….
I think he would thrive in MD’Antoni’s system.
Alot of guys would…
GState - Monta Ellis, Bellini, AlHarrington, CMaggette
Utah - Ronnie Brewer, DeronWilliams, CBoozer
Hawks Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Mario West
Pistons - Aaron Affalo, Rodney Stuckey, Tayshaun Prince
Grizzlies - Rudy Gay,
Rockets - Aaron Brooks, Rafer(Skip 2 my Lou)Alston,
Tracy McGrady

I can’t think of anyone who’s production would spike more than Nate’s has thus far…
I guess it would have to be a guy that is having trouble sticking the league or getting burn, but has offensive skills.
Gerald Green - we see he is at his best when the pace of the game increases and he gets P/T. He is looking like a started for Dallas (where’s jason terry?)…
Von Wafer - Has a stroke and athleticism, but hasn’t shown the kind of will and determination he has been showing in Houston as of late…
I like the J-Will suggestion. He would have put in some 10+ assist years under coach D.
Also I’d say LeBron would average a triple Double in this system, because he would be all over the floor. He’s not a spot up 3 point shooter, so that puts him in rebound range and we all know he handles and passes as well as any none PG (and some PGs) as well…

Kudabeen says:
Iverson and JR Smith already play in a similar offense…They just didn’t have a guy distributing to the best scorers (Iverson, Melo, JR)…I think Iverson should be able to put up his first 10 assist year if NeNe and JR come to play this year. Then he won’t have to score as much, but create and get to the line more…

true @ izzy! Until a(any) D’Antoni team can consistently hold teams under 100..they are only gonna be paper champs!

Gotta get to the playoffs to win the thing, and you have to play to your strengths to get to the playoffs. The Knicks don’t have many players that can defend very well, so what should they do, izzy and JHov? Give the players brain transplants with Camby, TD, Artest, Kobe, and Kidd?

It’s gotta be Lebron. D’antoni would put him in at any position and he’d own. Dude could probably average a triple double playing for the Knicks.

surprised that no one said Kirilenko’s name yet . . . no one remember back when he was putting up games of 20, 9, 5, 6 and 1 on the dubs when the jazz ran with them? (or 13, 7, 4, 7 and 1)
He’s the perfect defensive minded guy for a run and gun system in that he’s long and can cover a lot of ground quickly on defense.
