A Fantasy Predicament: Dirk or KG?
I’d like to root for KGIf I didn’t have The Fantasy Doctor standing over my shoulder and saying “No, you idiot, draft him!” when I was drafting my team, I’d be screwed. But instead, I’m enjoying life in first place.
So as you’d imagine, any time someone proposes a trade, adds a player, changes their lineup, or so much as farts on the fantasy message boards in my league, I bring it up with The Doctor.
Unfortunately he’s out of pocket today. So here’s my predicament:
Should I trade Dirk to get KG?
Here’s the situation with my team. We’ve cakewalked to wins in the scoring column every week, and we’re winning in three’s regularly. However, we can’t close the gap in rebounds or blocked shots to get either one of those categories. (It’s been a consistent record of 6-3-0 week-by-week thus far.)
* If I give up Dirk, I’ll lose about 3-4 three’s per week. KG doesn’t hit any.
* If I give up Dirk, I’ll lose about 25-30 points per week. KG’s averaging right under 17 per game, while Dirk is right under 25 per night.
* If I get KG, I’ll add about 3 rebounds per week. The difference between these two guys on the glass is negligible.
* If I get KG, I’ll add about 2-4 blocks per week. That’s not much either, but it could push me over the edge.
* If I get KG, I’ll boost my FG% from 44% to 50% – that’s always a welcome change.
Would you trade Dirk for KG?

I just couldn’t see myself trading Dirk for KG although I like KG more as a player. I think that keeping your team as it is would be best decision because there’s a chance that adding KG to the mix could mess up the chemistry. Dirk is also a much better FT shooter than KG and I’m sure you would drop off there as well. The other thing to consider, and I think it’s the most important, is that Boston is going to cruise into probably a 1st or 2nd seed in the East. The Mavs are gonna struggle to make the playoffs in the West. Therefore, towards the end of the season, during the fantasy playoffs, you might have KG sitting on the bench, resting up for another championship run while Dirk will prolly be on the floor for 40 minutes a game trying to help the Mavs make a playoff appearance.

in real life you’d trade for KG clearly.
but as a fantasy player in Boston he’s doing things that don’t count in fantasy.
keep Dirk, he’s the team’s number one option and still gets rebounds. KG is his team’s second or sometimes even third option.
instead, try to package up Dirk with another player and grab Amare, then listen to the doc sometime this week and pick someone off waivers that might have value.

Dirk gives you 3′s and more points. And Garnett isn’t the monster he used to be. Especially with the Celtics, he doesn’t have to produce as much as Dirk has to produce.

Keep Dirk.
I understand the pressure to fantasy-draft the players you root for in real life but…that’s just not intelligent all the time. Granted I lucked out when I drafted Dwyane Wade (the best player on my new favorite team since my Sonics no longer exist) and he’s sky-rocketed to the #1 fantasy player this season) but that’s not always the case.

Tough question but I don’t think you should pull the trigger on the deal…However, if you could make it a 2 for 2 and get a slight upgrade at a different spot it might be worth it. Maybe try to get another three point shooter back to offset the loss of Dirk?

keep Dirk. don’t get worse in categories you’re winning to have a chance to win some you’re losing. Your winning percentage will start to drop and you won’t be in first for much longer

The real question says:
Do you really think Dirk will be healthy all year and more importantly in the last few weeks when the playoffs are held for many fantasy leagues?
