Don Nelson Wants to Trade Al Harrington

At this moment, only two things are for certain. Al Harrington wants to be traded, and Don Nelson wants to trade him.
“He thinks he’s a superstar,” Nellie said to ESPN.com. “I think he’s a very good player. If he wants to be traded, we’ll try to accommodate him.”
Aside from those two facts, everything else about Harrington and his possible destinations seems to be total speculation. So I figured we’d add some educated guessing to the debate, projecting teams who would benefit from adding Al, while giving the Warriors a fair price in exchange for his $19 million over the next two years.
* Memphis – The Grizzlies probably make more sense than any other team. Now that they don’t have Mike Miller, Memphis is the second-to-worst (behind OKC) if not THE worst three-point shooting team in the League. Harrington would offer some much-needed offensive firepower.
Memphis trades: Javaris Crittenton, Hakim Warrick and Marko Jaric
Golden State trades: Al Harrington
GSW would love to get their hands on a capable point guard, especially someone who is eager to prove himself. Javaris is clearly third on Memphis’ depth chart behind Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry, thus making him totally expendable. Warrick would offer the Warriors a guy who can rebound and run the floor, and Jaric would be there to warm pine and even out the salaries.
* Dallas – Though Mark Cuban was quoted on Dallasbasketball.com, saying there are currently “No trade conversations going on with anyone about anybody. Zero. None Nada,’’ who really believes him?
Dallas trades: Jerry Stackhouse and Brandon Bass
Golden State trades: Al Harrington
In Golden State’s ideal world, they would work some swap for Jerry Stackhouse ($14 million over the next two) and Brandon Bass (if they could work an extension right away, as he’s in the last year of his deal under $1 million). But Dallas will need Bass’s rebounding when they do battle against the Spurs, Lakers, and Rockets. Unlikely.
* Indiana – With Al Harrington, the Pacers could be one of the best three-point shooting teams in the NBA. Adding him to the mix of Danny Granger, Mike Dunleavy, and even Troy Murphy, and you’ve got a slew of big men with range.
Indiana trades: Jamaal Tinsley and Brandon Rush
Golden State trades: Al Harrington
Rush would help to even out the salaries, and also gives Golden State something else to hold onto in the event that Tinsley’s return to the court ends up something like Marcus Williams’.

How bout Z-bo for Harrington they’ve both been on the block for a min now and be a good pick up for both teams. N.Y. gets rid of Zach, in return they get another scorer who should fit in with the all offense system N.Y. is clinging to, and Golden State gets a scorer who can rebound.

Harrington to Miami for Marion and Marcus Banks? I’m not sure on the exact salaries, but it should work out. And since the Heat are looking to run more of the USA offense an extra big body with range would be nice. He has the capability to get boards but can spread the floor for D Wade to do his thing.
Hmmmmmm….

Harrington doesn’t near make enough to balance out Marion’s 17.2 million (i think thats the number) and Marcus Banks’s 4.something million.

Logan,
You think that might be giving up a bit much for Harrington? Marion makes $17 million this season, not sure those $’s work – but there could be some deal with those two guys as the principle pieces and then others making the money match. You think that’s a fair foundation?

The Memphis trade scenario makes the most sense. As far as the Dallas and Indiana scenario goes, I wouldn’t give up Bass or Rush for Harrington. Both Bass and Rush can more or less give you the output of Harrington and they both play better defense. Not to mention they are younger and will be cheaper to retain.

GSW gets Bargnani + Kapono.
TOR gets Harrington + Randolph.
Warriors get a poor man’s Dirk in Bargnani who might be a good fit playing Nellie Ball. Kapono is a better shooter than anybody else on the W’s.
Toronto would get rid of Bargnani and get a better version of his self in Harrington. Randolph would learn a lot from Bosh who’s framed like him.
It’s not happening though because Colangelo won’t give up on the Italian Stallion just like that…

I like the trade with Memphis. Warrick can put up decent numbers when given the minutes. They get another young point who can possibly develop into a decent player. Marko might even get some PT.

how about this trade- harrington and matt carrol to the knicks, q rich and ray felton to the warriors and curry and marcus williams to the bobcats, the knicks get harrington whom will play better the second nellies out of sight, and carrol will knock down some 3s in this offense, felton can play some point 4 the warriors till monta gets back and qrich will add some veteran leadership to the w’s, larry brown plays a slow offensive game so curry will get some touches and his contracts bigger but shorter than carrols, and dj is their pg of the future so williams can back him up

Ive been following the nba for a long time and have been priviliged to attend 100s of games including about 20 something warrior games last season, its very simple whats going on between Al and nellie, nellies got a big ego because hes been around for so long and won as a player with the celtics but a coaching record of 1282 and 957 is good but nothing to get to excited about, hes lost tons of games as well, its just a numbers game hes been around for so long of course hes gonna win some games, hes never taken a team to the nba finals and his teams play no d, ill give him credit for creating nellie ball , which is entertaining in the regular season but never gets it done in the postseason, sounds like im hating but im not just stating all the facts, as for Al, hes not jordan or kobe but he has crazy talent which is why he was drafted out of high school, hes obviously an emotional guy and lets thing affect his game which is something that great players dont allow, but nellie has turned him into a standstill shooter, whatch the tape , i have, he has al just standing around, thats not up to al thats from nellie, hes using him totally wrong , on indy he was a beast in the paint year after year and was always in the 6th man of the year conversation, hes big and strong and can hit threes ,nellie shouldve given him more freedom instead he screwed with his head and messed up his confidence by giving everyone on the team a green light but him, al consistantly had the shortest leash on the team last year, how u supposed to get in any rythm like that and he still averaged almost 14 and 6 in a paltry 26,27 minutes a game, true hes not gonna lead a team by himself but if used correctly can be a major part of any team

Nelson should be traded. Al is a great player. Nelson has a way of destroying players. Matt Barnes after a great postseason in the playoffs didn’t play a minute for the first six games of last year. How do you go from being a started to not playing a single minute for six games? Word in the street is that Barnes and Nelly got in an argument in Hawaii in the pre-season.
Nelly has already turned Al Harriongton into a bench player in only two seasons. Everybody knew they never got along. Michael Petrius got sick of being a bench player as well and went to Orlando. Matt Barnes is now a starter at the Suns and Petrius is finally getting his minutes and starts. At this rate all Warriors players will be asking for trades. Barron Davis decided to leave after Nelly disrespected him and had him in the bench after his birthdate blaming the team not making the playoffs on him.
Nelly didn’t make the playoffs last year because of his fault, not the players. Nelly had no rotation whatsoever. Playing Ellis, Davis and Jackson for 48 minutes is not a great formula for their up-tempo. The reality is that Nelson burn the players out and they had no gas towards the end of the season. At the same time Al Harrinton, Matt Barnes and Pitrius were watching from the bench.
After all of this I would like to Nominate Nelson for the worst coach of the decade. He took a team from nowhere to the playoffs to nothing again. Sure he turned it around with trades that the owner paid for to only take that better team and bring it to the ground in only one season. Nelly go back to retirement.
Back to the subject at hand……Keep Harrington and trade Nelson.
