I know that Billups will do us right, but it is so so so so hard to let go of AI like that. I’m furious with Nuggets managment. First Camby now this!??!! You gotta be kidding.
Yeah, Melo and AI had a full season together last year, but Nene went down for most of the season, and JR Smith was still developing, plus K-Mart was still getting back to full strength. Now with a new season, we have a healthy Nene and K-Mart, a more mature JR, and some key role players to mesh with, birdman, balkman etc. At least give it 20 or 30 more games and see what happens.
COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
so lame

This is insane. I love this move for the Pistons, hate it for the Nuggets and love it for the Blazers because it looks like the Nugs are practically dismantling themselves.
Does this also mean Karl will have to start begrudgingly starting JR Smith at shooting guard? I’d love to see that and bet on which one of them blows up at the other one during a game first.

I am so glad that “Tbone” brought up the Nuggets management. Thats all my friends were talking about today is how the Nuggets wasted Iversons time. Iverson hasn’t been an angel his entire career, but he worked his ass off for the Nuggets. It seems as if after Melo got into that fight in NY that they hit the panick button and made a trade for AI without thinking things through. You cant make a trade for that type of player without having a plan in place. Thats just like making a trade for Kobe or Shaq and not having a plan..players like them need to be build around. Just ridiculous. I feel good about him in Detroit because I know Dumars knows what he’s doing and Iverson will be around veteren players that know how to win. Thank god.
I wish the Nuggets the best, but this is do or die time for Melo..if they don’t succeed after this he will be officially labeled ‘overrated’ and need to take accountibility for something. The Nuggets still have Karl unfortounatly. And I still feel sorry for Billups because he left a legit contender to an ‘unsure we can even make the playoffs in the West’ team. SMDH

Well, Iverson I think has had his Michigan mansion on the market (I presume it still is) for quite some time now and really had cut the asking price, so assuming he has not recently sold it at a big loss, he should be delighted to put that crib to good use.

Ugh! My bad–the mansion is in PA.

Maybe him and Billups should just switch houses and sell them to each other.

It’s just nice to see AI with a very legit shot at the title. This is gonna work out, I believe Detroit is gonna go far with this. It’s championship or bust…and even if it isn’t, Motown is in very very good shape after this season.
Well played, Joe. Well played.

kobeef says:
I think this is a great trade. The Pistons were stuck in the not-quite-championship stage and needed to move on or fall behind. Iverson was not a good fit on a team with so many other scoring options. This moves gives Melo and JR the keys and it will be exciting to see how much damage the can do.
This season is a bit of a dud for the pistons but next year they will have young talent and tons of cap space. A good place to be for a team that needs to look at the future.
It will be interesting to see where AI and Rasheed end up after this season.

pistons get one of the best closers in the game, but they gave up one of the best set-up guys in chauncey.
still don’t see initially how this is going to work for detroit’s offense since rip and the others like to go around screens while AI is a ballhandling, breakdown-my-opponent kind of guy.
Ultimately I may like this trade coz it gives AI a chance to win a chip. He deserves one.

control says:
Decent long term trade for Detroit, from a financial point of view. They won’t win a championship with AI though, guy just ain’t willing to do what the team needs him to do to win…aka, become a fucking play-making point guard instead of a ball hogging stat freak.
Not sure why Denver made this trade…Denver’s GM must have JR Smith and Melo on his fantasy team or something.
November 3rd, 2008 at 11:38 pm
control says:
I guess the best thing about watching Detroit games now will be seeing Rip facial expressions when he is running the routes, coming off picks, looking to shoot the ball, and noticing that AI waves him off, then proceeds to jack up a contested one hand twenty foot fade away with three defenders hanging off him. 90% of Rip’s points scored in the last few years has from been that efficient pick and roll he worked…good luck getting the ball now Rip!

Phileus says:
I laughed at control’s post but it’s true isn’t it! Still though, he got an impressive assist total in Denver despite the team having TWO of the NBA’s best shoot-first scorers.
I love Iverson, he’s a fantastic player and one of my heroes since he busted his ass for the 2004 USA squad.
But he’s also a franchise player. Hasn’t his whole career been defined by not mixing well with other high-level players? His MVP/Finals year was with a team of supporters. Not sure how he’ll be with the “all men are equal” Pistons.
Still though, he was wasted in the Nuggets. I hope he’s got something left in him.

i like it for detroit since it puts iverson in the similar situation he had in his philly run. a defensive minded team of role players with him being the dominant scorer. only difference is these guys are better overall. i dunno whats up wit denver. Maybe havin a image overhall like the pacers did
