(Almost) Daily Fantasy
Short one today fellas, but obviously I had to chime in on the breakout night by Anthony Morrow. So here we go.
Anthony Morrow – Before you go too bananas about undrafted rookie Anthony Morrow 37 point performance know a few things. 1. If you have never seen Morrow play, he is a big time shooter. He is not a create his own shot type of guy and is more of catch and shoot. 2. He is not a point guard. Why do I bring this up? The Warriors sort of started him there last night. Really they just didn’t start one at all but Morrow was the defacto. 3. People in Nellie’s system have done this before and never been heard from again. Anthony Roberson? There was about a 5 minute span where he had value (and started) for the Warriors. 4. SOMEONE is going to sign Morrow in your league. So should it be you? Who would I be willing to risk dropping to grab him? Would I drop Barbosa for the risk? Maybe. Nick Young? Maybe. Duhon? No. Telfair? Yes. Obviously I need a little more than one awesome night to believe in Morrow’s long term value.
Brandon Wright – We were all excited about him right? Nellie system right? Lots of you ran out and picked him up? DNP-CD last night.
Greg Oden - Oden had 13 points, 8 boards, 2 steals and 3 blocks last night and the Blazers are still limiting his minutes in the 20-25 range. Two more weeks like this and you’re trading him for some nice value.
Robert Swift – Yes he had a goose egg last night, but I’m not jumping ship yet. You don’t worry about him, we’ll tell you when to sign him.
Sebastian Telfair - Well, he’s at least starting. I wouldn’t touch Telfair or Foye at this point. Honestly, and I’m not recommending this pick up, but I’d feel more comfortable owning Steve Blake.
Andres Nocioni – Good to see a nice bounce back and strong finish from Nocioni (20 and 11). We’re still big fans of his game and fantasy potential.
Tomorrow – There is a ton of injury information that of the “day-to-day” sorts including Michael Redd, Deron Williams, and much more. We’re all over it and check back multiple times tomorrow for line-up day updates.

Hi, Jurg from Denmark says:
Hi from Jurg Mr Fantsy Doctor.
Please take my apologies for writing about personal life the other day. All Jurg really loves to talk about is the beautyfull game of basketball with people. Please hear my sorries.
I should add that your photo of no 1 girl on another story on Dimemag.com is unbelievable. I know you people from America don’t like European and say to Jurg, ’stupid European’ but I think that girl looks European. And she is nice. She is good enough to bring a tear to a glass eye.
I have a good question for you sir. Could you please say which would be the best point guards to try and trade for that make plenty of assists and hit lots of three pointers because my point guards are still Beno Udrih and now John Salmons only other good plassing player. I have Rudy Fernandez but he does not pass.
Thanks you Doctor, from Jurg, Hi.

im having some trouble in my roto league im having problems in t.o coz i have wade and mayo plus other guards. rebounding and blocks are also an issue because of this guard heavy lineup i have now. Im considering trading D.wade for al jeff. i’m doing the move basically out of need. d wade is having a monster season but i think al jeff would give my team more balance. comments?

Where exactly are you getting your information from?
I did not go out and sign Morrow in my fantasy league, My team is WAY to stacked as it is right now. I took a couple gambles in the draft and they panned out so far with Spencer Hawes and Rudy Fernandez. The only possible spot I would have is Gilbert Arenas, but I’m holing on to him, hoping for an early (pre-Christmas) return.
I am also not a Warrior fan or a Morrow fan for that matter. But as for your assumption as to him possibly being a “one game wonder”, let me share some information with you.
This guy was undrafted because he just FLAT-OUT didn’t produce enough at Georgia Tech, but basing your assumptions on his college career. There is a LONG list of players who did not produce enough at the college level and turned into Stars at the NBA level. A number of them drafted in the second round. Being that there are only two rounds in the NBA draft, he entered the NBA Las Vegas summer league where he impressed a number of people. Including Warriors Guard Marcus Williams who said this about Morrow.
“Golden State Warriors guard Marcus Williams hates facing rookie forward Anthony Morrow in practice. No matter how hard he plays him, no matter how well he defends him, it’s never seems to be enough.
“He never misses,” Williams said. “It can be so frustrating. He doesn’t even give you a chance to win.”
I know there are a lot of “one hit wonders” out there who preform up for one game or even an entire month. But this kid has so much potential and athletic abilities. He can knock down any shot from anywhere. When I seen him in the summer leagues, I thought to myself “he could actually make an NBA roster and back-up someone coming of the bench, that is how good he looked. I was amazed he was undrafted myself. Now Nelie had to shake things up a little bit with a log jam of problems at the point. C.J. Watson looks good as well, but he seems to be inconsistent and turning the ball over a lot. So Morrow got his chance and shined when his number was called. He might not be your typical PG. But neither are Iverson, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and a host of others (i just named the big names, so don’t take my text out of words. I’m not saying he is even close to them) and they seem to get the job done just fine when playing the point at times.
This kid will be in the league for more than likely his entire career. If he starts his entire career, is yet to be seen. But he is capable of that same performance every night because he is just that good. He was just overlooked at the draft ( he was predicted to go mid-second round), and didn’t get drafted.
So hold back on the criticism before you go telling people to not pick him up. If I had a roster spot I would have snatched him up as soon as I heard Nellie was giving him the start).
I see him averaging 20 points, 6 rebs, and 6 assists from here on out. That is roster material if you have an open spot on your fantasy team. If your team is stacked from top to bottom, you might want to wait a few games before dropping a Andre Miller, or a Mike Bibby (PG/SG). Although I’m sure someone will already have signed him by that time.
My advice, if he is still a FA in your league. Pick him up now and DO NOT wait another minute. He is a diamond in the rough.

Don’t say I didn’t tell you so.
Last night he poured in 25 points and 4 three pointers in a matter of 2 quarters (seeing how he only had 2 in the first, and sat out almost the entire 4rth quarter).
Writers for blogs and magazines tend to think that have all the knowledge and are so quick to criticize someone so quick. If these people had been watching him all summer long like I have, they would have seen this coming and wouldn’t look foolish telling people to avoid picking him up right away in your fantasy league (basically telling everyone to let the other guy in your league get him.)
I had never been to high of a lot of guys on how they do in the summer leagues until last year. When Rodney Stuckey was making a name for himself in the summer leagues of 2007, I watched and said “I am praying if he could only do this on the NBA level”, being the Piston fan I am. When he got his shot in the Playoffs last year for the most part, he didn’t prove me wrong when I was telling my co-workers and friends all year, “look out for this Stuckey kid, we gave me hope for the future watching him in the summer league”.
I said the same thing about Morrow this past summer. Of course I never thought he would get a shot this season, I was wrong there. I figured he would shine when he got his shot through, and he has.
Like i said, If this guy is somehow still a FA in your league, (which i doubt he is anymore). Go out and pick him up unless your stacked at the PG/SG position with three 20-10 guys already. I was going to drop Rudy Fernandez for him, but someone in my league jumped on him that day he put up 37 and beat me to it before I got out of work on Saturday.
