(Almost) Daily Fantasy
Baron is a fantasy headache. As always, leave your comments/questions in the comments box and I’ll try and answer as many as I can.
Marc Gasol - At the last minute I chose to start Marc Gasol over Marcus Camby for one more week, not knowing what Camby’s status was going to be going into his late game. As well as Camby played last night (see below), Gasol was an ANIMAL going for 27 points, 16 boards, and 3 blocks. Lucky=Genius.
Baron Davis – Last night was the exact reason that Baron Davis is so hard to own. Doubtful going into last night’s game, Baron surprised everyone and played. Because it was a late game a whole lot of owners sat Baron this week. I’ve said it before, you’d rather a guy who you know is out for a few weeks and know his definite return date than a player who is always questionable.
Marcus Camby - Camby made his 2008/9 fantasy debut last night and played more than expected (27 minutes), and honestly, better than expected. Camby only scored 5 points but had 9 points and 3 blocks. Here’s the problem – Camby’s heal is still very sore. I imagine a prolonged absence is inevitable at some point. One other thing – the Clips NEED to stay competitive. Cheer them on. You don’t want a situation where there is no motivation to play in pain.
Chris Kaman – How would Camby and Kaman mix? So far so good. Kaman, had an aggression on the offensive end that hadn’t been seen this season. If you watched last night, he just looked fired up. Kaman had 19 points and 10 boards but most importantly he had 3 blocks (as did Camby) which hopefully infers that there are enough blocks to go around.
Rasho Nesterovic/Roy Hibbert/Jeff Foster – Rasho’s (ankle) week is over before it even started. Pick up Hibbert or Foster at your own risk. Meaning don’t.
Rodney Stuckey – Stuckey got the start last night (9 points, 4 boards, 3 dimes) but will come off the bench initially with AI in town. Interesting Michael Curry comment I heard last night on NBATV. Curry said (I’m paraphrasing) that he thinks that AI will help Stuckey work on being aggressive more and that’s a problem right now for him. They want Stuckey in attack mode at all times. It might be time to own Stuckey in deep leagues, but it’s not time to start him.
Antonio McDyess - McDyess could have actually had value on the Nuggets but will reportedly take a buyout, sit 30 days and come back to Detroit. Boring. No value in that.
Andres Nocioni - If you’re an NBA coach, how do you not love Nocioni? Evidently there is a way because the tough nosed Nocioni is playing a bench role for really his third straight coach. That being said, Nocioni showed some fantasy promise last night with a 20 and 7 night. He also got 26 minutes. If the Bulls can find around 30 minutes the Argentinean will have real value. With the way Tyrus Thomas is playing, there is a chance that Nocioni could see a legit increase in minutes. Definitely monitor it.
Tyrus Thomas – Yikes. The minutes dropped to 16 last night. Even so, Thomas had 7 points, 6 boards, and 1 block. His role is clearly undefined right now.
Elton Brand – The Sixers blew out the Kings so I’m not worried about Brand’s numbers last night, except one – blocks. Except for a handful of games between the preseason and the regular season Brand just isn’t blocking shots like he was pre-achilles.
Jason Thompson – I’ve been hesitant to endorse Thompson without seeing what happens when Brad Miller returns. I still think Thompson will only get about 20 min per night when B-Mill returns and that might not be enough to warrant a roster spot right now. Still, the kid can clearly play (17, 6, and 5 dime last night) and will definitely have value at some point, so if you’re in a deep bench league, Thompson is a great guy to stash away.

Joe says:
Someone cut Barbosa in my league, I feel I should pick him up for Rafer Alston as my team needs FG% and FT% bad, but I was really down on Barbosa this year and passed on him the first 7 or 8 rounds for a reason. Nate Robinson is also available and for some reason I really see him being a bigger fantasy force (as the new barbosa) then either one of the two established players above. Am I crazy?

Whats good w/ Randy Foye? Is he worth picking up? What about Ryan Gomes?

The Fantasy Doctor says:
aj,
Bad deal for you.
Big Sai, Thad Young.
MoxWestCoastRep, kind of an impossible question. I really think we don’t know enough about either guy yet.
Mooks – I think, right now, I’d go Ty Thomas. But really I don’t want either to have to play for me.
Joe – Not crazy. Rafer has had a horrendous first three games. His minutes are still there though and he had ups and downs last year as well. I think it’s a little bit of a panic move to drop him.
NYC – I’m not a Foye fan, but he probably shouldn’t be out there on waivers. Gomes is going to be inconsistent.

Yo Doc,
I just recently did a trade in my roto keeper league.
I traded Marcus Camby, Rudy Gay and Marvin Williams for Dwight Howard and Kirk Hinrich.
I was thinkin Camby had a career last year and his heel will limit him and on top of that he’s playing in a new offense where him and Kaman can’t share the stats.
Too much?
Just wanted your 2 cents.

Yo Doc,
I just made a trade in my Roto Keeper League where you can only keep 3 players.
I traded away Marcus Camby Rudy Gay and Marvin Williams for Dwight Howard and Kirk Hinrich.
I figure Camby’s heel will be a problem all season and last year was a career year so I was desperate to unload him.
Just want to know your 2 cents on it!
Appreciate it!

Hey Doc,
With Spencer Hawes’ strong start to the season, is this the right time to shop him around my 8-team, 11-cat league?
Or should I ride this out and hope he keeps high value when Brad Miller returns?
Thanks.

Hey Doc
Surely that rumour of s-jax for prince isn’t gonna happen… I am in a points league and S-jax has been killing… obviously he won’t play 40 minutes at Detroit
Also what about Hawes when Miller is back… will he still start?
Cheers
