Blazers Trade Rumors: Mike Conley and Hakim Warrick?
Hakim Warrick to Portland? Before the Hawks started the season 6-0, Mike Bibby was firmly on the trading block. But since their hot start – and Bibby’s solid play – Atlanta hasn’t been looking to usher him out the door.
Thus the Grizzlies, who are still trying to do something with their lopsided roster, are stepping out of talks with the Hawks and into a conversation with the Blazers. Instead of centering the deal around another point guard, Memphis would principally exchange Mike Conley for Travis Outlaw, with Sergio Rodriguez and Hakim Warrick being the peripheral pieces. There’s a chance that Javaris Crittenton could even be a part of this deal.
“Portland has long coveted Conley, in large part because of his childhood friendship with center Greg Oden,” writes Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. “Conley and Oden grew up together in Indianapolis, playing together through a Final Four season at Ohio State. Pritchard knows that Conley has the credibility to get in Oden’s face when he needs a push, and that’s played an important part in his trade explorations.”
If you were Kevin Pritchard, would your main consideration in exploring trades be how that player fits in with Greg Oden? I would think that Pritchard would include Oden as part of his nucleus, but Brandon Roy should be the main consideration.

Also his talent level and ability to contribute should probably play a role. unless there signing him as a trainer

I don’t understand why you would give up a good young point who can ball (Rodriguez) for a young kid who hasn’t shown that he can play in the L (Conley). Just b/c he’s the best friend of Oden. Warrick for Outlaw is an even swap tho.

Rodriguez was complaining a while back about not getting any burn, so if he’s not in the plans, this deal makes sense.

Blazers are creating locker room drama for themselves I would not have made this public big mistake on part of the front office I’m sure the players are befuddled by the situation. With Outlaw I can understand because of his whining at the beginning about his touches but Sergio is more important to this teams future plans than Lowry could ever contribute just because they want Oden to have a boyfriend close by. This trade would make no sense unless they were trying to make a statement to the team that no one is expendable which in return destroys chemistry, contracts, and player respect.

Scott says:
Like everyone says, this is an ugly one. Conley needs to show and prove consistently. Outlaw along with Sergio seem to be a big part of their early success. Personally I’d prefer Outlaw over Warrick right now, as losing Outlaw’s 3 point ability would definitely hurt the Blazers. Where as Warrick is just another inside guy with hops. He’d clog the lane causing headaches for Aldridge and Oden when they’re trying to execute a move. Where as Outlaw they can kick it out to him with confidence, cuz more often than not he knocks down the 3. And he’s hit some big 3′s for them in his young career.

This seems like a wash to me. I think Outlaw is the best player in the proposal which probably means this is a mistake for Portland.

I don’t get it either. If Portland is going to trade some of their young talent it should be for a veteran 3 man or 6th man. There’re young enough so why trade for more youth??

This is not really a good trade for the Blazers. I agree with Scott that Warrick would be another big man, that they don’t really need….for Conley who they don’t really need. Blazers should just be patient at this point and let the team begin to gel. They still have to work Martell Webster into the rotation when he returns from injury.

I dont get this trade either. Portland are a good team only gonna get better. Outlaw is a big part of the team now cause of his ability at the perimeter. He’s a decent defender as well.
I can see why they want Conley, but not for Outlaw. Hakim Warrick? Dude, he was behind Darko last year in the rotation. He is NOT needed in Oregon when they got a stud in Aldridge.

Sergio is a very very very underated PG. His potential is very high. I would trade Blake before Sergio. The Blazers can afford to let Outlaw go because they seem to trust Batum and Webster should be back soon.

this rumor refuses to die. you should not assume this is real. in fact ,talking to the oregonian kevin pritchard said the only deal that might be true would include raifs expiring contract.he also told travis on the floor last night before the game that this is just rumor ,he isnt going anywhere. do you think that he would make a trade now with everything seeming to be getting better and better as far as team chemistry.?

That would be one of the worst trades in franchise history! You have Blake, Sergio an Bayless, what’s the point of trading Sergio for Conley? If players can now sign contracts and bring their best friend along so he can make you play harder an stay fired up, then maybe you don’t belong in the L… It’s a “Grown Folks” business. And why bring “I can only dunk Warrick” for Outlaw? He’s a poor man’s Channing Frye (minus the jumper).

Lady Luck says:
@JCarr….
That was mean. I have yet to hear any quotes from either player that they needed this. Have you? Just because some writer implied it in his article doesn’t mean that Oden and Conley want this. I personally don’t think they do. I think Oden is focused on getting healthier and better and Conley the same.
If the Blazer must trade Sergio (which they shouldn’t) amd Outlaw then they need to focus on getting a veteran player that can come in and give you some leadership, hustle, and rebounding. Maybe a trade to the HEAT for Marion.

The two best players in the deal are Outlaw and Sergio, why would the Blazers do that?
And Sergio is finally getting some PT this year and doing great with Rudy in the 2nd unit.
