BREAKING NEWS: Allen Iverson Traded to Pistons for Chauncey Billups
After rumors surfaced over the weekend, sources are saying that the Nuggets and Pistons have come to a tentative agreement to deal Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Nuggets for Allen Iverson. None of the guys were at their morning shoot-arounds.
The first order of business is Rodney Stuckey figuring out what jersey number he wants to change to.
We’ll hit you with full analysis as soon as we get more details. Stay with us.
What do you think of the deal?

A.I. and Rip are gonna be playing less now, their both scorers and this was definitely in part to accomodate stuckey and establish him as the new PG. They may start A.. at the point and Rip at the 2, but gradually as the season progresses Stuckey will be playing the point and getting bigger minutes. But i bet stuckey takes #1 now that Chaunce is gone.

Iverson is a hell of a player and you gotta give credit where credit is due. But i think you just didn’t understand the point I was trying to convey. Your completely right about Chauncey being the MVP Finals PG. He’s a better team player and worked great with the rest of the core in Motown. But I was just defending Iverson’s ability.

Good deal for both franchises.
Denver gets a hometown hero in Billups, plus their best player from the late 90s in Dice, who’s gonna be a HUGE pickup to conterbalance the loss of Camby, minus the blocks.
Detroit finally got their Superstar AND cap relief. It’s a business and with Rip, Tay and Stuckey all up for contract extension soon, it’s a decent if not strong move financially speaking.
With Dice gone, Dumars just free up some more PT for Amir, Maxiell and Kwame inside. It was needed.
The question is that it seemed Curry wanted to involve Tay in offense more. Now with AI on board, I dont see that happening.
Other question is : how are they gonna work on the defensive end with Stuckey, AI, and Rip ? Who’s gonna check bigger, star caliber 2-guards ?
Another thing to take in consideration is… Things in Detroit were getting boring. Same ol’crew, same ol’issues.
I’m really looking forward the Pistons play on offense, because opposing teams are gonna have a hard time keeping an eye on both AI (with the ball) and Rip (without) at the same time.
Denver’s clearly cleared the way for Melo to get 20-25 shots per. Billups is very unselfish, and seemed affraid to carry the load more on offense. Now, he’s gonna be the PER-FECT sidekick to Melo. And Dice, Nene, and K-Mart are gonna compliment each other in the paint IF they can stay healthy.
This is the end of FantasyDoctor’s beloved Anthony Carter’s Fantasy value…

AI= Iverson, an eight-time All-Star, has averaged 27.7 points and 6.3 assists per game over his 13-year career. 2001 MVP

AI just don’t fit in with Detroit as well as Mr. Bigshot. AI needs to have a team built around him, he isn’t a guy who conforms to a role on a team. He needs to have a heavy defensively oriented team, with people to pass him the ball and get out of the way on offense. AI wants to win, but he wants to win doing it his way…that ain’t what Detroit is about.
I hope Joe D has some more plans, because right now the move looks pretty bad.

The only thing that will help is Iverson is finally on a defensive-oriented team (only part I disagree about with Control). Still though, the only way I can see this working is if he SEVERLY tones it down, in terms of shots, shot selection, etc. He’s gonna have to take a page from the Celtics handbook last season (The Big Three all toned it down for team success). If he can conform, then it MIGHT work.

I agree w/those of you who said that Joe D isn’t done dealin’. A.I.’s only got one more year on his contract, so I think it was done more for future cap space relief than anything.

The problem is…every single year AI has been in the league, the thing that has been said about him is “if he controls his shot selection, gets teammates more involved and attends practice, he will break through and be a contender”. That hasn’t happened in 13 years, it won’t start now. The guy NEEDS to be the focal point of the offense, or he starts fucking around. He won’t turn the page this year, nor any year…he is what he is, and that ain’t a champion.
AI’s defense is HORRIBLE, so Detroit is the right team to cover up his short comings in that regard…he will just fuck them up offensively while he dribbles the ball for 22 seconds each possession.

I didn’t think Dumars was going to pull the trigger, but I guess he was sick of seeing the same old on the floor and this also gives Michael Curry more time to work with. Seems like people realize this is a small step backwards as far as chemistry is concerned.
Also, Billups was their only matchup nightmare for Boston and Cleavland. But Iverson playing against guys his size is easy pickings as well.
Man Dumars is gonna make me get league pass…I just went through a struggle to cope with not getting it…AI is on a legit contender…All eyes on him in the D…

This a good deal for both squads. Detroit needed to get that hunger back and AI gonna walk into that locker room, see Joe D’s chips, see Rip, Tay, and Sheed’s rings and bring that KG type hunger. They lose a little defensively but not that much. Stuckey is 6-5 so he can guard the 2 guards if him and AI are on the floor together. I don’t get why dudes are talkin like AI’s a scrub or a cancer now. Dude balled hard in Denver and was one of like 2 dudes who actually played d in Denver. Denver’s problem was never AI, it was a team need to step up the d, and they got rid of Camby anyways so maybe they just rebuildin anyways. The Detroit squad is way better than that sixers squad AI got to the finals and he won’t have to do nearly as much.

Im surprised people aren’t commenting more on Billups. Billups fit in perfectly with the pistons, im sort of scared that going to the Nuggets might mess up his swagger. Seriously, how many teams did Billups have to go to before he found the right team in Detroit? So I don’t know.
Also, why didn’t the Nuggets do this trade during the Summer? I swear that franchise is such garbage..no wonder McDysse doesn’t want to go there. And if the Nuggets don’t work out with Billups, then Melo needs to start taking accountibility for himself. I love how everyone blames Iverson for everything and Melo gets a free pass for the fact that he has only helped his team win 4 games out of five years in the playoffs. And Karl needs his @ss whooped for allowing a talented team like that go to waste.
As far as AI and the Pistons, the Pistons needed to shake things up and I trust Dumars..im happy Iverson got out of Denver because they weren’t allowing him to be himself there. I feel like they made a trade for him for all the wrong reasons. That franchise has lost all its cradebility as far as im concerned and Melo is two steps away from being labeled ‘overrated’.

I don’t get it. What’s with teams trading for past-their-prime players, or for players who don’t fit in their system (Iverson fits both of these descriptions in Detrioit)? Shaq to Phoenix, Kidd to Dallas… now this. Detroit’s back-court was right where it needed to be – what they needed was more frontcourt presence. Now they’ve gone and traded their floor captain for a proven malcontent who’s shot-happy and self-interested, they have a logjam of backcourt scorers, and they still don’t have the frontcourt presence they need. This trade ONLY makes sense insofar as Iverson will be off the books after the season, but Detroit’s not getting past Boston with THIS roster… Dumars MUST be planning some other trades. That’s the only way this move makes any sense for this season.

What Dumars did was put the Pistons in the position to have over $30 million come off of the books after this season. With Billups and McDyess gone (Bullups on the books til 2010, McDyess in until 2011) and Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson set to come off of the books, they will have a ton of flexibility. I would not be surprised if they ask Iverson to come back on the cheap to help lead this team back to the top of the east, but the question is what big man can they bring into Detroit?
They will still compete this season but with or without this trade they are not on the level of the Celtics.

What’s up with all the Iverson hate on here??? So happy he is out of Denver!!! That team was going nowhere with George Karl. AI was NOT the problem in Denver!!!!!! He was their only solid player while Melo getting DUIs during the playoffs..

good trades for both teams. Chuncy is the perfect PG for Denver. While the Pistons can be really versatile in the back court and surround Iverson with a lot of help.
The only guys won’t be happy abt the trade might be folks at Adidas and RBK…the new Answer XII would have to be in Pistons color-way now….and Mr. Big Shot’s TS creator is now officially throw-back sneakers…if there’s such a term…

Not sure how I feel about AI in Detroit though…although at least they are a legit team and the east is so weak compared to the West
