BREAKING NEWS: Jamal Crawford Traded For Al Harrington

Jamal CrawfordJamal Crawford

It’s official. The Knicks have agreed to send Jamal Crawford to the Warriors straight up for Al Harrington.

Earlier, we broke down why the Knicks want to get rid of Crawford, and how the move affects your fantasy team.

But the official deal is a bit different from the original rumors. Here are some of our first impressions, come back throughout the day for a full analysis.

* The deal is good for Nate Robinson. He’s made the most of his time on the floor, but questions have still lingered as to whether he is a 30-plus minute per night guy. For everyone who watches the Knicks, let’s just hope that it doesn’t result in Mardy Collins seeing more tick.

* The deal is good for Stephen Jackson. Up to this point, Jackson has been playing 43.3 minutes per game. Chris Mullin needed to figure a way to save Captain Jack’s legs a bit. Even if Crawford starts alongside Jackson, his presence on the floor should be enough to save SJack at least five more minutes per night. That’ll add up.

* The deal is good for Anthony Randolph. Neither Randolph nor Brandan Wright see substantial tick, but if Don Nelson has a preference between these two, he’s going to lean towards Randolph. The LSU rookie has some point-forward in him, and he gets up and down the floor like a gazelle.

What are your thoughts on the trade?

Its a shrewed move by Walsh. Cap space is the biggest thing on his mind right now.

  2. BxBaller says:

It’s Official. I’m done with the Knicks. First they sit Steph then trade Jamal for one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Any suggestions on a new team to follow?

  3. vinny says:

ok jackson and crawford-who the hell is going to pass- that could be the worst shot selection backcourt in the history of the nba. and when monta comes back-damm!!

  4. Lady Luck says:

Interesting trade. I wouldv’e thought the Knicks would keep Crawford, or at least get an additional guard in the deal.

  5. that's whats up says:

Crawford is easily having his best year yet.

    Typical Knicks

  6. justice says:

who plays the 2? I guess they really believe in wilson chandler, q rich will probably start at the 2, with big Al and Z down low…i don’t see how we got better at all but if it clears the cap a little then phuck it..

watch jamal tear the league up now just our luck

  7. Mikey says:

It kind of reminds of playing Monopoly. You know, the point where all the properties have been bought and you are sitting with 3 railroads, 1 dark purple, a couple of the light blues, and Park Place. You know you are going to lose, so your only hope is to work out a deal with the guy who has the other light blue and hope you get lucky.

In this case, the Knicks are hoping to get lucky in 2010 with LeBron, Bosh, or Dwayne (i.e. the 2010 cap room is their light blue monopoly).

The Warriors are just gathering assets without any real planning. Going back to the Monopoly scenario, they’ve got one light blue, one light purple, one red, and one yellow… and they just traded the light blue for a couple of railroads. It is an upgrade, but it won’t help them win the game.

  8. karizmatic says:

Decent trade for GS that gives them Crawford and the emerging Morrow along with Maggette S. Jack and Biedrins. New York gets Harrington which might make Randolph more expendable and at the very least helps them at the wing since Gallinari is a flop. I don’t know what they do for a point guard though. GS didn’t want Marbury?

  9. karizmatic says:

Hopefully Nate Robinson and Duhon can do their thing.

  10. Mikey says:

GS doesn’t have the pieces to trade for Marbury. Al Harrington was their biggest contract. S-Jack is next, but he won’t be traded.

  11. E$ says:

Morrow, Jackson, & Crawford….more shooters than the armed forces

  12. Ross says:

Crawford was a scoring machine. But why, Knicks?

  13. peoples champ says:

we might/probablysee a lot less Morrow. Shame that he was doing well. crawford is gonna get busy in GS butcant see any chemistry developing or wins???then when Monta gets back ????

  14. LakeShow84 says:

    I like this for Warriors..

Has anyone seen an exec make more moves than Mullin?? Every year and every offseason lol.. This man is off the chain widit..

But i like it.. Crawford goes to a similiar system in which he is already excelling.. As for Al harrington to the Knicks??

Al thought he had it rough in NY.. shit wait until he plays that inconsistent s$%t in the big apple.. they’re going to castrate him..

  15. justice says:

Why would the warriors not make the deal for a pg? how long before the bellini kid ends up back home? has he played at all this year?

  16. Kudabeen says:

S-Jack, Azibuke, Marrow, Crawford, Belinelli, Maggette…I guess S-Jack and Meggette will be playing more of the 4 position…

  17. Kudabeen says:

    *Morrow

  18. D.Phoenix says:

WTF Donnie? Crawford was really starting to blossom, and NY just ships him off for Walsh’s golden child, who hasn’t shown any evolution in his game the last five years, who will get outrebounded by Q-Rich, and who will want to take away touches from Randolph. I’m tired of hearing about us clearing cap space for 2010. Why would LBJ, D-Wade or Bosh wanna come try to be the savior of this D-League squad under the most intense media spotlight in the world?

  19. ... says:

    Monopoly analogy was awesome, Mike

  20. QNZ NYC says:

Good trade, jamal plays no D, so in the defensive end the knicks are playing 4 against 5. Al, is solid player, plus his contract ends b4 2010. You have to do everything u can to get lebron. Also, now lee will be traded.
Ya non-knicks fan stop talking bs about my squad

  21. control says:

Two average players for each other. Only thing Al might do is stop Fat Zach from being a douche bag in 3 land. Golden State might actually break the record for least amount of assists in a game (0).

  22. Max says:

Good move for the warriors for this season…Crawford gives them a more proven and (semi-reliable) shooting guard. Possibly a good long term move for the Knicks, and good for their system (Crawford is a poor passer and takes too many mental breaks on offense and defense, which brings “seven seconds or less” to a grinding halt).

On the other hand, this is a big hit for the Knicks offense, and Harrington is just as streaky and soft defensively as the other Knicks forwards.

  23. got them..SCOOBY DO's says:

The Knicks do not know what they are doing….why would you send your best playmaker for AHarrington? Unless he is ready to ship some other pieces…..this trade makes no sense!!

GS on the other hand didn’t win nor lose….the got rid of AlHarrington who didn’t want to play NellyBall…I don’t think Randolph can put up Harrington’s numbers right now…..then again he doesn’t need to if JCrawford can produce….

  24. dmitry of jersey says:

so now Golden state went from having a team with about 8 SG’s to 9 SG’s…. i’d be bummed if i was a knicks fan. Jamal is the only dude on that squad who has any balls in the clutch.

  25. control says:

    gotthem…Scooby

Which plays did Jamal make? His best play was “I jack it, you guys watch me jack it”. Come to think of it, that was his only play.

  26. ed says:

wow as a knick fan this sucks, i wish they could have somehow gotten bellini in the deal. i never have liked al harrington but he does seem to fit the system. i hope they have another trade coming. we really don’t have a sg any more. what the hell

  27. Max says:

What control said. Calling Jamal a “playmaker” would be like calling Harrington a “power forward”. No playmaking in Jamal’s game and no power in Al’s.

  28. Chaos says:

Financially it makes sense but the warriors are gonna have too many shooters after awhile….

Ellis, S-Jack, Maggette, Crawford, Azuibuke and Morrow. Something isd gnna give. Biendrins spot doesnt change but Nellie is being very stingy and playing pranks on Wright with his minutes. let him go to somewhere who needs a big man like Miami or something.

  29. control says:

I think this will be the first year that someone straight up steals the ball from their teammate so they can jack the shot. Golden State has like 5-6 guys who are volume shooters/jackers, nothing more. The only passes are going to be from out of bounds.

    ed

Being a Knicks fan, your life already sucks, so it ain’t nothing new.

  30. William says:

I would’ve understood the 3-team-deal since it would’ve cleared a lot of cap space. I wouldn’t have been happy since I was curious of what they could do with this team this season and the upcoming one. I’m not a fan of clearing cap space for LeBron (it’s not guaranteed he’ll sign with the Knicks). As pointed out above they’ll have problems in the backcourt. I hope they’re not finished trading yet.

  31. BxBaller says:

Control go jump off a bridge, we all know you hate NYC, give it a damn rest already.

  32. french says:

    sick trade

harrington is crazy soft, cops no boards, and whines

    good looks don

  33. control says:

    BxBaller

Why you mad at my team? IF I was a fan of the Knicks, I would be hating on them even harder than I am now. The KNICKS are giving their fans the shaft more than anyone else could ever do that. Look at how poorly built they are, how much money they have wasted (money that the fans pay the team).

Don’t be hating on me son. Hate on the team that spits in your face.

  34. Kobeef says:

    @Mikey
That was the best post Dime has every seen…
“they just traded the light blue for a couple of railroads” hilarious…

The more I look at this trade the more I see that this was a about trading a problem ($$) for a problem (player-coach issues). Neither team gets any better.

Al has kinda sucked for a long time so he will fit in well alongside team “Overpaid Pine Rider”: Jerome James, Curry, Steph, Jeffries

  35. control says:

    correction:

    Why you mad at me?

  36. AB_40 says:

standing 6-5 (in the media guide actual height 6-3) weighing a solid 190 pounds coming from seatle washington, our new power forward Jamal Crawford hahahahha wow, as I saw the detroit denver trade working for both teams I don’t see this one working for neither.

  37. Kobeef says:

    ohhh…nnoooo. You aren’t going to believe this…

“The Knicks are activating Stephon Marbury for Friday’s game against Milwaukee”

  38. isotope says:

Man, I was hoping it was Othella and not Al Harrington.
    sigh

  39. ed says:

    control

    shut the fuck up

  40. qUeSt??? says:

hey guys i read that it was for malik rose not jamal..im confused now

  41. qUeSt??? says:

@kobeef they did that so that they wont get penalized by the league for having less than 12 players

  42. control says:

    ed, Knicks fans

I understand you are frustrated. Your team is managed by people with the intelligence and creativity of monkeys. I understand your team is probably one of the worst sports franchises this side of the Detroit Lions. I understand you don’t want to be “bad fans” and direct your hate at the people responsible for you crying yourselves to sleep.

As a public service, all Knicks fans can throw there hate at me. Hate me because your team sucks, and probably will suck for the next decade. Hate me because your team is mortgaging it’s long term future in the hopes of getting Lebron…which probably won’t happen. Hate me because I can take it like a real man, and you guys can feel like “good fans” because you are defending your team.

I am your best friend, my friends.

  43. Kobeef says:

    @quest
I think it is pretty much confirmed that it is Jamal. The trade is on NBA.com now which doesn’t post until it is a done deal.

So we can’t expect Steph on the floor…that is probably good.

  44. vinny says:

    @control
ok as a knick fan this franchise has been on the decline since the ewing trade- so since 2000, but damm the lions, really? layden and thomas -the master’s of absorbing bad contracts are long gone(as bad as thomas was layden was worse!!!)- but there is light on the horizon! even if we dont get labron we will have cap space and a coach players actually want to play for. at this point any hope is better than no hope!

  45. MSkittle says:

I thought D’Antoni loved Crawford… til their last game

  46. GEE...to the highest bidder says:

Expect Crawford to do well with Nellie Ball and also expect some serious highlights from dude.

    Al…not so much.

  47. motosport3 says:

Zach Randolph traded to the Clippers.

  48. Brown says:

Hopefully the Warriors can package a couple of their guards for a decent PG. They’ve got a lot of money tied up without a PG or PF so they’ll have to make a trade at some point. Don’t they?

  49. eddy says:

this is getting me mad…im a new yorker, and jamal crawford is my favorite player in the league…..walsh clearly did that shit to get bumass harrington who used to play for him on his team again, he made that caproom excuse as bullshit…everybody knows that if he wanted he could of traded q-richs bumass for harrington bcuz goldenstate is clearly tanking this season and nelly wouldve taken anybody….this is why i think we gon get lebron though bcuz there has to be light at the end of the tunnel, it cant get any worse than this…

  50. JCARR says:

Crawford is way more valuable than harrington. Now i get to hate the knicks even more. Knicks got more 3 point shooting then what they dont need (25 3’s a game) LOL
    Crawford- PG???

  51. baller says:

I think knicks got ripped off. Crawford is one or the top scorer for the knicks now that Al is on the team les points will be made. Crawford made many come backs for the knicks.
