BREAKING NEWS: Kevin Garnett Suspended 1 Game
According to ESPN, Kevin Garnett has been suspended for the Celtics/Knicks match-up tomorrow night for the “incident” between him and Andrew Bogut on Saturday. KG got smacked in the face by Bogut as they fought for a rebound, and then Garnett flailed and connected with Bogut’s nose. Both guys got T’d up during the game.
Should KG have been suspended for that?

Ashlov says:
I’ve always liked KG, but he’s been a total dick lately with all the hand clapping and taunting. This wasn’t exactly in that same category, but he needed a time-out.
November 17th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
rlf says:
yes, he should have. this guy gets away with murder and no suspensions.
-choking a ref.
-making hand gestures to players as they are moving with the ball.
-talking smack that goes beyond the usual.
and so on…he had it coming, and he needs to be T’ed when he taunts other players.

Sam says:
when did Bogut hit KG? He was always going for the ball, and then KG slapped him in the face.
November 17th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
rlf says:
btw, what he did to the ref and calderon(?) was worse than this. but i guess david stern had enough.
i don’t know what happened to kg, i liked him a lot before. he was one of my favorite players, not anymore, he is very annoying

dagwaller says:
I mean, normally when a player slaps another player in the face, it’s a suspension. So yes, he should be suspended.

How can you not suspend him. He slapped Bogut right in the face for all the world to see.

There he goes again, attacking white players. KG is a b*tch as usual.
November 17th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
jace says:
of course. u could see that was on purpose. Ashlov’s right, i used to think kg was the man. but now all of a sudden hes clappin in people’s faces, taunting them. where’d this attitude come from? i understand you’re still hungry.. but cmon man.. kg “the kid”? more like kg “the dick”.
anybody remember that year anthony peeler left kg and the timberwolves and then during a game with his new team against kg, they got in a scuffle? peeler pretty much just forearmed kg in the face/neck and kg took it and didnt retaliate. just played his heart out for the rest of the game. thats the kg i used to like.. lets his game do the talkin not his mouth.

I love KG’s game and attitude, but i think he was going a bit overboard…

Do you think KG should have been suspended?

Diego says:
I think KG seems to pick on certain players he seems to view as a bit green (i.e., inexperienced), for example, Zaza and Calderon. (He also messed a bit with Randolph Morris of the Hawks recently–who certainly does generally seem lost and who had no idea how to handle it.) A lot of these guys seem to be Europeans (could just be coincidence), and KG better watch it a bit.
A guy like Zaza may seem like a chump to Kevin. But Zaza has been in the league 5-6 years; played at least a couple of years in Europe before that (they start young over there–ask Tony Parker) and is only about 24. While KG can whip Zaza on the basketball court, a guy like Zaza could kick KG’s scrawny ass any time/any place off of it. (And I kind of wish someone would.)

HELL YEAH THIS IS LONG OVERDUE!!!
garnett’s been the spoiled brat bully of the NBA, smack talk, dirty plays, flagrants, hand gestures, cheap shots, crotch grabs, name it – this guy’s done it regularly…
fine him some more… about a mil and some…
and i wish he’d try those on ron artest just once… i wanna see him get obliterated on national TV…

SayItAintSo says:
I’d suspend both KG and Bogut…
KG just because he really does need to tone it down a few notches. I’m all about intensity but there is definitely a line, and he has crossed it.
Bogut…well because he is a tool.
November 17th, 2008 at 7:32 pm
vinny says:
@stikz- i dont think Garnett discriminates when it comes to ‘attacking’ players. He has been talking shit and fucking with players for a long time! white, black, whatever. He should have been t’d up in the raptors game for taunting calderon. I remember when he used to talk shit to duncan years ago! So get off the race tip!!!
November 17th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
jk says:
garnett @minesota = team killer because of giant contract.
garnett @boston = poor winner becasue of attitude (honestly i did not think he had an attitude until boston – winning has changed him in my opinion).
garnett please see your teammate r.allen to see how a professional “champ” carries himself.
November 17th, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Jay says:
You guys who bitch about KG talking shit and taunting must be pussies. That’s a part of the game. You guys must be the type who get all butthurt when someone on the court talks about your game.
Taunting and trash talk is a part of the game. Aside from personally attacking stuff about someone’s life (wife, kids, etc.), nothing is off limits. You use just about any advantage you have to win a ball game. You talk to get someone off their game, KG has been doing it for years and so has a lot of players current and past.
But as far as that play is concerned, definitely warrants a suspension. He clearly hit him back in retaliation. But the shit talking and taunting is all in good fun. People are too damn serious nowadays.

A-Slam says:
Garnett is a fucking punk, he needs to stop picking on these euro-guys. I’d just like to see him get knocked the fuck out to tell you the truth. Hey KG, pick a fight with Ron-Ron then we’ll see who’s doing the fucking yapping and hitting.
November 17th, 2008 at 7:44 pm
A-Slam says:
@Jay, yes trash talking can be in fun if you can back it up. In Minnesota KG could back it up, but he doesn’t put up the numbers anymore to back his shit up. Look at ’sheed, should he really be trash talking? no.

Raj S says:
You all are haters. KG got traded for SEVEN players, and he (along with the rest of the Celtics) delivered a championship to Boston. He is not playing any differently then he did in Minnesota; it just so happens that he is not the only great defensive player on his team (Rondo), and he has two better scorers so when he poasses the ball (which is often) the ball goes in the basket more often.
He’s been doing his crazy stuff forever, but you decide to point it out NOW. When Steve Nash played for Dallas, he was being guarded by KG on the wing one-on-one. Nash tried to shake KG, and KG didn’t budge. Instead, he clapped his hands, hard as hell, multiple times, in Nash’s face, while yelling as loud as he could (and with one of the crazy KG faces). Nash quickly passed the ball. No tech, no complaints, nothing.
Sure, KG is a loud, face-making player. He thinks out loud, and he talks to other players a lot. That doesn’t mean he is taunting anyone. That doesn’t mean he deserves techs. This isn’t middle school basketball.

Yes KG should have been suspended for that…but damn, some of you are going hard at KG in this forum. LOL!!!!
November 17th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Lady Luck says:
Yes because the slap looked intentional on the video. Given the other suspensions that occurred, they would have to.
Jay and Raj are correct though. The league is becoming a bit too soft and sensitive. Too many Craig Sagers and Jim Grays reporting. Hard fouls and incidental contact, are receiving too many techs and spoiling the game. Soon there will be no touching, cursing, staring, or emotion allowed.

What did Bogut do wrong there?
Looks like eating a deliberate KG bitch slap is “t em up” material.

bogut kept his hands extended on purpose down into KG’s grill.
the calderon thing was worth a tech for taunting. this was probably worth a tech as well but definitely not a suspension.

Schmoget13 says:
Although I’m a proud Aussie lad and totally want to defend my fellow countryman, there is no foul play here. Just 2 big men going hard. I think the NBA has become a little soft man. This is a grown man’s league. Too busy trying to appeal to kids. Let them big fellas go at it. No blood/injury, no suspension. I think it’s great to see emotion and taunting. I just wish watching games on the TV would allow us the same access the players and the lucky courtside fcukers get. Unless you read lips (sometimes its obvious), you can’t hear all the good stuff that goes on between the players. Most people don’t realize how much chatter and taunting really goes on. KG is just mad in-your-face about it. How can you not love that as a basketball fan?

no way the league’s hating the C’s – ticket, tv and mechandise sales are going sky high with the green revolution…
anyway, KG’s just growing old in reverse – that screaming, roaring, blah blah blah shit is for youngsters… and besides, he’s picking spots anyways – why can’t he do that shouting clapping shit against s-jax or kg or shaq or even freakin’ k-mart for that matter…
that’s not passion… that’s not desire… that’s just junk…
November 18th, 2008 at 1:00 am
Promoman says:
KG does seem to adjust his “intensity” regarding guys who he thinks are “soft”. He used to try Wally Sczerbiak, fought Rick Rickert (who was smoking that ass in a T-Wolves scrimmage a few years back), and now his recent spree. Guys like that just need their ticket punched. They think guys who aren’t loud are targets, when that isn’t the case. Just look at when KG tried that shit with Tim Duncan sometime ago. Tim didn’t say shit and then proceeded to beat it outta KGs ass. That was on the level of the Olajuwon on Robinson MVP snub incident back in 94.

Bogut should be thankful he’s not on KG’s team; otherwise, KG would have punched him square in the face (see Wally & Rickert).

November 18th, 2008 at 5:52 am
tealish says:
That play in itself doesn’t warrant a suspension. This 1-game timeout is basically a blanket suspension for all the stuff KG does and gets away with on the regular. Y’know, screaming “Get that sh*t outta here!”, pointing his finger in opponents’ faces, etc — all of which, is chalked up as passion and intensity.
The league is just getting this punishment out of the way early so when KG starts up again in the playoffs, they can hold off on any discipline and still claim, “Hey, we DID suspend KG earlier this year. He’s not untouchable!” as KG shouts a big F*CK YOU to everybody in sight.

November 18th, 2008 at 11:21 am
rell says:
KG should not have been suspended for this. Like several people said KG has been doing this for years and now everybody on the board is mad about it. I guess because the Celtics won them a championship they are the most hated team in the league. No one was saying a word about KG antics when he was in Minnesota and use to go at Duncan like this all the time. But now it is a problem. It T-Mac wasn’t suspended for pushing down Nash then KG shouldn’t be suspended for this.

they couldnt suspend him back then because duncan abused his ass
u imagine being tossed after that?

@jay and anyone else defending gay ass kg…It’s part of the game when you do it to EVERYBODY maybe. He only does it to people he thinks he can take…Best example when he tried to do it to Peeler (who played with him so knew kg was a punk) Peeler punched him in his mug and KG backed away like a little bi@tch. I love it b/c even though he annoys the hell out of me, it seems like the joke is on him b/c everybody now knows he’s a punk. I would have loved to see KG do that to someone like Oakly. Even Jason Maxwell punked him.

Borgs says:
Garnett is as stupid as he is intense. To the NBA from high school my ass. What did he do there… ring the bell?
Fact is, Garnett should’ve been ejected (and no further suspension necessary) and wasn’t, and Bogut was inexplicably handed a technical for doing nothing wrong or deliberate, and it effectively decided the game in Boston’s favour. The referees should be suspended, in truth.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
Stikz says:
@vinny, honestly, i cannot remember Garnett ever going hard at a black vet. He picks on white guys and young guys. Garnett is a b*tch and its sad that he gets away with all the crap he does. I know what he does is legal and within the rules (except for maybe the handclapping) but i would love to see him go after sheed or artest. And please don’t forget that his “intensity” was severely dialed down against Lebron and Ben Wallace last year. It may seem like i’m trying to drag race into this argument, but history shows us the players that Garnett f*cks with are by and large white. And if they aren’t white then they are new to the league. Garnett has no class and really no respect for his opponent or the game. Its one thing to talk trash, but his actions on the court are bush league. If he pulled that crap on any playground, he’d be looking at some busted teeth. I respect Garnett as a player, although he is a classic second banana who needed someone else to push him over the hump. He’s definitely top 10 pf of all time (Duncan, Karl, Diggler, Barkley, Mchale, Baylor, Moses, etc). Really the best person to compare him to would be Chris Webber in terms of talent and when they were both asked to carry teams, they pussied up and took 16 foot jump shots. He’s lucky Pierce carried him offensively and even luckier he had a bunch of soft Lakers to push around. This truly is not a commentary on race, but rather on Garnett’s penchant for targeting “soft” (read: white) players.
