BREAKING NEWS: Steve Nash, Matt Barnes and Rafer Alston Suspended
RaferESPN.com is reporting that the NBA suspended Steve Nash for one game, and hit both Rafer Alston and Matt Barnes with two-game suspensions for their roles in the fight the other night.
Shaq wasn’t without punishment, as he got fined $35,000, and Tracy McGrady was fined $25,000.
Do you think the League’s action was right?

dapro says:
Barnes should have gotten 3 at least, he was the antagonist
November 14th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
In other news they should have suspended James Posey for coming off the bench the other night. Amare and Boris got suspended just for standing up!

Prof. TX says:
The Suns learned from their problems with the Spurs. Send one of your non-essential guys to start a fight with the other team’s PG, and they’ll lose more than you will. The stakes weren’t as high, but this is pretty similar to that famous playoff game where an intentional hit was made to put down the smaller guard.

raf says:
mite be a stupid question…but these suspensions would be without pay rite? so if shaq and tmac got 35 adn 25 grand fines..how much money are the guys losing who got suspended
November 14th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Big T says:
Seems weird… I thought for sure that Shaq would get a game or two for his pushing antics. He pushed about 10 people (exaggerated) in the back.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Big T says:
@raf
Shaq/T-Mac pull in over 150K per game ez, so that fine isn’t shit to them.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:24 pm
weezy f says:
i believe i first reported that
November 14th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
George W Kush Sr says:
Raf, i really calculaged it, TMac is losing about 5 minutes work worth of money is $25K, and for Shaq its about 6.5-7 minutes for $35K.
Some people dont make that in a year, this guy makes it in 7 fucking minutes!
November 14th, 2008 at 3:27 pm
P_Dizzle says:
yeah it’s about right on suspensions and fines.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:32 pm
George W Kush Sr says:
I was going to ask who gets paid the most per minute in the NBA, but then i realized that Marbury, if lucky, might get about 10 minutes playing time this season under D’Antoni, so thats $21.8 Million divided my ten minutes… GOD DAMN
November 14th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
doug says:
Man that’s wack fat shaq should’ve got suspended too he was no peacemaker he sucker pushed Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming in the back and he was going after to Rafer Alston next. The NBA is so inconsistent with these rulings. If that was Ron Artest he’s out alteast 5 games.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Michorizo says:
Atleast the Rockets can play Brooks more
November 14th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
derrick says:
mcgrady the pussy should’ve gotten at least the same fine shaq got.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Obmij says:
TMac and Shaq both should have been suspended due to the nature of the physical contact. TMac shoved Nash to the floor hard enough to cause injury IMO.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
nola says:
i liked this punishment. they recognized who started the confrontation, who escalated it, and who was protecting their team mates by shoving. this is gonna be a story all season. bleh. btw joey crawford truly needs to be banned from the nba.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
doug says:
They need to stop blaming the fight on that unusual rash on Steve Nash’s neck. That thing is always bleeding he needs to stop sharing those bic razors with his girl and get a decent mach blade from Gilette or something. It was disgusting watching that thing ooze blood on High Def. He should get an extra game just for that. T-MAC pushed Nash down like he owed him money, that dude is the tallest guy with down syndrome that i’ve ever seen.
November 14th, 2008 at 3:55 pm
Kevin says:
Rafer should’ve got more, he cracks Nash in the face three times.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Ian says:
off topic
there was a poll on who would u rather have larry legend or kobe
legend won the poll
anyone here picks kobe?
November 14th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
GEE...always smell it and look at it first! says:
HILARIOUS! Wow and yea give me Kobe. As far as the punishment. That works so well for Houston. Chump change to Mac and Skip ain’t been playing well anyway so maybe the time off he can get his mind right.
Really shocked they got Nash and didn’t get Shaq for his Mosh pit performance.
They prolly figured T-Mac gonna be out enough games this year without suspension so, again it all works out lol. No harm, no hurt and Matt Barnes has take his rep further as a bungholio!
November 14th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
QueSt??? says:
why dint mutaro, um i mean shaq, get a suspension? wuhuuuuuuuuuuu, that means shaq is going to be playing and ive got him on my fantasy team!
November 14th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Ian says:
gee
really ud take kobe
i personally dont think he has anything on legend
both can drop 40 on anyone but
bird is a better shooter rebounder and passer
November 14th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
SWAT says:
lol bungholio! pure comedy!
November 14th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Ross says:
Barnes is the only one that should have been suspended. Nash and Alston should have been fined. Shaq and McGrady didn’t do anything.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
dagwaller says:
Barnes more, Nash less.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
GEE...always smell it and look at it first! says:
Ian you are probably right I just rather Kobe demeanor wise and I am just more of a Kobe fan. Make no mistake you are probably correct though. Bird was spectacular.
I just want someone to fight Shaq fa real before he goes! Bet Dorsey can take that cat on. Not saying he will win. Just wonderin.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:43 pm
doc says:
Nash should’ve got more so My little cuzzo could get some clock.@Ian-Give me Kobe.Yeah Bird was the shit but I got Kobe going between the legs working him over just like Mike did.Yeah I know Larry won that game but its who would I rather have.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
JCARR says:
Tmac was just as involved as Nash or maybe even more, he threw nash to the ground… but someone has to get suspended, right? Nash always falls when he is in a fight…
November 14th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
SWAT says:
on another note Barbosa wont be playing tonight either. Dude’s mom passed away. Sorry to hear tht.
November 14th, 2008 at 4:59 pm

November 14th, 2008 at 5:05 pm

GEE...always smell it and look at it first! says:
Jus a thought.
Ok I know the injured jokes will come. Still be sure to watch T-Mac this year to be in more of what could be a real fight.
Apparently all the talk of Ron coming to Houston and making them a harder and tougher team might be gettin to Mac a little.
I remember his response once was something like “He is going to make us better, but I don’t know about tougher. We always been tough, I know I have always been tough. No man is going to come in and make me tougher, but he might make the team better.”
That ain’t word for word but it was somethin like that.
Anyway I have noticed that Mac (even in shooting horrible) is more aggressive. Even in this skirm with the Suns. Notice how he is trying to break it up, but upon seeing Nash trying to come over, he gets all swoll.
Anyway just keep an eye out.
Ian in thinking about it, yeaaa most def. Kobe. I would say with Bird shooting better, Kobe can get to the hole better. Passing got to be a tie to, it’s just Kobe didn’t and don’t pass as much, but he can thread it. Rebounding bout the only thing Imma give Bird over Kobe. Then to that though I will say I think Kobe is a better defender.
Yea give me Kobe. Just GEE’S opinions now.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
doug says:
stick to the script Ian we’re talking about rafer and matt barnes going WWE. As far as that pole that was conducted that only you know about I would definitely take Kobe over Larry. Kobe has more to his arsenal, with the edge to Larry as far as shooting, Kobe is a better ball handler(some of that could be blamed on the high thighs those guys wore back than),better in the post and definitely a better on ball and passing lane defender.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:31 pm
Ian says:
doug
u want me to stick to the script and then answer my question
please if u dont like why answer it not only that u took your time to explain why kobe and all.
only me knowing about it???? just because U dont know about it doesnt mean i made this up
gee
respect you picking kobe but i disagree on the passing bird can get his teammates more involved adn in crunch time there are only a few better than kobe this is one of them. one on one defense which kinda doesnt matter in this case is the one thing i give kobe the edge.
November 14th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
GEE...always smell it and look at it first! says:
Ian no doubt and respect to yours too. Either way you really can’t fail.
Imagine having both. HELLO!
What is funny I never really cared for Barnes one way or the other before now, but after being such a punk, because HE can’t shoot is crazy.
That is like a dude getting mad at a female cause he can’t find the hole. Man please.
Then as big as he is, he going after a lil dude like Skip. Cats funny when they try to go at small dudes. I would have been impressed (for lack of better words) if dude went at Ron, Tracy or even Scola.
Was he going to go after Brooks next?
He looses tons of cred.

NO nobody even got hurt it was just a bunch of pushing if anything it was funny
November 14th, 2008 at 5:52 pm
Ian says:
gee
u know what thinking about it i dont think those 2 would play well together.
combinations or jordan kobe bird wilt i dont see working to have two megastars together u gotta pair them with players like magic or duncan who dont mind seeing the other take 50 shots even though they know there are as good if not better than the other one.
thoughts?
November 14th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Ian says:
well its win win like u said both top 15 ever kobe might end up with bird in the top 10 at the end
November 14th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
doug says:
Take it easy Ian how was I to know that your man nurse hadn’t administered your daily dosage of ridilin yet? Be easy. Kobe is that dude when he retires he’ll be in the top five of all-time. BJ armstrong and Mark Jackson have already gone record as saying this
November 14th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
doug says:
top ten? Ian this cat even finished his career and he’s easy in the top 10. Look at these dudes body of work: MVP,multiple NBA defensive 1st teams & NBA first teams, rings and more to come, almost every scoring record(Mr.81), 50 points games galore…what more can I say to you? K-HOVA
November 14th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Ian says:
doug
no way he cracks top 5 and if he doesnt win being the man he doesnt crack top 10 imo of course
bj and mark gave an opinion also not a fact
November 14th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Ian says:
doug
theres a top 9 i have that is pretty solid and i said maybe cuz i think is between him and bron for me.
no order
wilt jordan td russell bird robertson kareem magic shaq at ten i have moses which is the one that might be moved
November 14th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
Ian says:
doug theres no way u can be top ten now with havin a couple of finals mvps
November 14th, 2008 at 6:04 pm
doug says:
Your giving an opinion too Ian, but I respect theres a little more because one of those guys played with the G.O.A.T(MJ) and the other one played against him. Who would you listen to? I think common sense says go with Mark Jackson and BJ Armstrong because I tend to value there opinion just a little bit more Ian.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
doug says:
Okay Ian Wilt only has one championship Ian and did you just say LeBron the guy who’s been saying Kobe is best player in the league for his entire NBA career. For real Ian? between Kobe and Bron for #10? Kobe is in another league. I think your doing what most Kobe haters do in discussing his career. Your probably completely ommiting his first 8 years worth of stats and accomplishments because he was playing with Shaq but Ian this just adds to his legend. Ripping the Kings for 42 points in the playoffs in ARCO as such a young LAD the list goes on and on.Ian you should take your act on the road
November 14th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Ian says:
doug
first cant u write a normal post with all that crap man nurse (why do people from cali like jokes like that) take your show on the road.. what is that even supposed to mean?
second didnt i say mine was an opinion also
three u cant have your on opinion that u value a guy that played with a guy that u fantasize about more than your own
four what you point out about kobe are individual numbers but in basketball there is more and u know it
five u didnt understand what i meant about lebron and how im i hating on someone when i say hes top 15.
six compare kobes resume to the players i mentioned and theres no way u can rank him ahead of any of them.
seven u try to talk smart and that u know everything but wilt won twice not once and dont bring up numbers with kobe cuz vs wilt no comparison.
eight goat i imagine is what u call the best player to u is jordan not for everyone
November 14th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
sans says:
Seriously, I want to hear about REFEREE SUSPENSIONS over this. The trail official that neglected to call Matt Barnes on the push caused this incident. If this happened at a HS level, and some kid got hurt, trust me the refs would be liable IN COURT for not doing their jobs and allowing the game to get out of hand. This was a situation where a no-call was the worst possible move by the officiating staff.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
doug says:
I don’t know you Ian? But it’s not my fault your mom and dad are first cousins? That’s not a joke. Ian you and about two of your cow tipping buddies are the only people on this planet who might not think MJ is the greatest player ever.By the way G.O.A.T stands for Greatest Of All Time since your having a hard time understanding. More importantly, the only player you can compare Kobe with is WILT and MJ because he’s always in there company when he breaks another record. Aren’t you a Spurs fan? That explains it all if you are. Kobe spent his whole career breaking you guys hearts. Didn’t we practically sweep you guys last year. You guys suck if that is your team. Kobe’s got now you guys are done. How could you put Tim Duncan ahead of Kobe unless your a homer? That guys a choke at the line and he’s always had a great team around him when he won anything so don’t say this guy put some clowns on his back to win 4 rings(1 more than Kobe)Kobe is in the prime of his career and theres much more to come Ian. You’ll be eating humble pie soon.
November 14th, 2008 at 6:31 pm
doug says:
i’m with you sans that’s what i’ve been trying to talk about you know Ian has to always take it somewhere it doesn’t need to go. I felt the need to address his ignorance. Yeah the officials handled that fiascoe poorly. Matt Barnes is a moron he should be suspended atleast 5 for starting the mini malay.

did u really mention duncan choking???? has duncan choked in the finals??? did duncan have shaq to carry his ass to the finals??? thats the dumbest shit ive ever read sayin duncan had a stacked team when kobe had a player even better than him on his.
how many players can win championchips with completly diff players as teammates?? only one has done it and its not kobe
do u REALLY want to compare a 2 time mvp 3 time finals mvp a 4 time champion who has never lost in the first round who has the record for most consecutive all nba 1st team and all nba 1st def team to KOBE
theres no way u buy that shit that kobe has a bette than resume than duncan

how about winnin first??? do u like me that much that u remember what team i like
November 14th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

“i’m with you sans that’s what i’ve been trying to talk about you know Ian has to always take it somewhere it doesn’t need to go. no duncan had someone worse than shaq carry him to the finals he had Tony Parker. I know your not saying this guy MJ’d the spurs to all ther finals Ian. Your the reason incest is looked down upon. TD had David Robinson,Manu,Tony Parker,Sean Elliot etc. These cats were not slouches. Shaq wouldn’t have won those with out Kobe and guess what you moron Kobe’s career is far from over and guess what else TD’s career is over so he can take his four rings and call it a wrap because the Lakers are too young, too long, to athletic, too deep and too talented for the Spurs to make it out of the west for the remainder of TD’s career.Did you see what we did to you guys last Ian? We beat yall really bad it was loaded with disrespect. We came to you guys house and beat you, we didn’t take our shoes off when we walked into your house, we ate, left dirty dishes and grabbed your wifes but when we left the house. That’s what I liken what the Lakers did to your Spurs, you guys look terrible. 2OT with the T-wolves.Aren’t you guys like 2-8, We’re really in another league, 7-0 tell TD to get his fishing rod ready.
