Breaking News: Zach Randolph Traded to Clippers
We thought this might be following the other Knicks move today, and here it is: the L.A. Times is reporting that a Zach Randolph and Mardy Collins for Tim Thomas and Cat Mobley deal is done.
Donnie Walsh really isn’t messing around is he? We’re looking at cap space galore in the very near future for you know who.
But what are the Clips doing? Now they have Zach, Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman on that front line. There must be another move in the works for them, like sending Camby or Kaman to a contender before the trade deadline …

WTF! The Clippers would have been better off keeping Elgin Baylor, what is Mike D thinking

Scott says:
Why would other moves be in the works for the Clips? Its easily the smartest move they’ve made. This not only free’s up the log jam at SG, but gives them a REAL PF, not a C pretending to be a PF. Camby is too frail to count on. Keeping the 3 in the mix would actually be interesting. As they’d have a hell of a 3 man PF/C rotation if Camby can stay healthy.
Obviously, talentwise Ricky D instead would’ve been better, but this will free up minutes for Eric Gordon, who earned them in preseason and has yet to get on track in VERY limited minutes this season.
Hopefully Randolph can continue to perform, I have him on a fantasy squad, lol.

The Knicks get older and cheaper, the Clips get fatter and lazier.
Unless there are more moves coming, poor trade for both teams. I’m just glad Fat Zach didn’t get traded to a team I like.

I agree, wtf are the Knicks thinking? They’ve traded there 2 best players! Hey, Knick fans, it’s not that much fun watching cap space!
Great for the Clips. If things aren’t working, it’s good to mix things up. There will be no shortage of takers for Kaman if he is trade bait.

@kobeef….this is why they activated stephon tonight! he wont play but they need him in uniform so that they wont get fined, i thought something was up because they had ppl to fill in for stephon when jamal was traded but now they dont, at least not for tonight.

Time for Walsh to go. I’ll by the bus ticket. I’m am OFFICALLY done with this ballclub. Tim Thomas REALLY? I can’t stomach seeing that motherfucker back in a Knicks uniform. I thought he was gone for good.
Steph has to play now, who else is going to run the point besides Nate?

qUeSt??? says:
@bx i dnt think marbury will play, d’antoni is hellbent on not playing him, they’d rather have curry as a backup pg than marbury

vinny says:
lets see mobley who is a far better defender than crawford-although just as inconsistent from the outside. harrington and thomas(who had his best year playing for dantoni)for collins and zach and they save millions- how is this bad for the knicks??

Even with my dislike of the Knicks, it’s hard to watch a ball club being slowly torn apart.
If I were a fan, I’d not be spending ANY MONEY supporting the team.

as of today the Knicks are 6-5.
take a picture of that because they will be under .500 from now until 2012

@CONTROL- IS THAT CLUB REALLY WORTH NOT BEING TORN APART?

This is terrible because it’s not a forgone conclusion that the BronBot is coming to NY. Or any of the other big name FAs.

Right now I like this move for Zach. Let me think about it, though.

Brown says:
I’m glad the Knicks are getting rid of their bloated contracts. They need to rid themselves of the mess Isiah Thomas left them in. Next up is Marbury and Curry. If they can find suitors for them or buy Marbury out, they’ll be able to really start rebuilding the franchise, which is desperately needed.

Good thing you got Fat Zach’s Fat Back. I’m sure you are only covering like 1/3rd of it though.
I think Fat Zach really messes up Baron’s game, the guy is too slow and clogs shit up around the middle to help Baron.

Kevin says:
Walsh is the man. How many more season’s tickets were sold after the Knicks went 6-2? It was clearly enough that winning the rest of the way through was no longer important to maintain ticket sales. They probably cleared their season ticket quota and then dumped all their salary and talent. This is ONLY the fault of Knicks fans. You were all way to eager in grabbing tickets too early and now you’ve gone and F’ed yourself. The sad thing is that it was probably the corporations who bought them because they don’t care if the team wins or loses as long as exciting basketball is being played and clients demand tickets. The sadder thing is that these tickets were probably bought with tax payers money in the form of the ‘heist’ that is the bailout package. Again, the corporations win, and the fans lose. Thank you free market capitalism! Haha. That’s my rant. Peace out.

isn’t this pretty much the same knicks club of last year. knicks fans should be happy with getting rid of crawford and randolph. the franchise wasn’t goin anywhere with them anyways. just hope d’antoni’s system can keep yall a sub .500 team, maybe a 6-8th seed, til bron gets there. peace.

Big Shot BOB says:
This sounds like Dantoni’s work. He likes to run so Don Walsh got him players than can run and shoot. But that frontline is looking weak. How do they expect to guard guys like Dwight, Rasheed and Garnett with Tim Thomas?

this is messed up, what was the point of adding camby in the off-season, might as well trade him back to the nuggets now. nuggets would be so much better now if camby was still there.

i dont understand why every analyst and commentator is focusing on lebron/everyone else free agency in ‘10. its a looong way til then and alot could happen.
plus, why would bron want to go from an okay cavs team to a crappy, depleted knicks or nets team that threw away everyone to get him? doesnt he want to win? they say he will do it to be on the biggest stage (is NY knicks still the biggest stage? no offense but theyve disappeared lately) and help his endorsements but i thought hes the kind of player who wants to WIN.
im out like z-bo bankrupting NY pizzerias

i just don’t know what the clippers are thinking!? they’ve already kaman and camby and i guess it would be a good idea to surround those quality big men with some quality shooters. ironically, if there’s one thing mobley and thomas are good for it’s shooting…

Jayse GM says:
Why didnt the Knicks trade Eddy Curry to the Clippers as well?!?!? Then they should have made sure that the Clippers give Camby in return!!!!

George W Kush Sr says:
Al Harrinton and Lee in the Frontcourt.
Chandler and Q on the wings.
Nate and Duhon at the point.
This is a very small team now. I dont thing they’re scaring anyone right now. And if LBJ, Wade or Bosh dont come into town, what da fuck is that going to leave them with?
The only way it makes sens is that Walsh wants to tank the next seasons to get a high draft picks for ‘09 and 2010 to lure a star. But i gotta ask, who did this dumb ass pick this year? Gallinari? Im sure LBJ wants to play with 3 version of him.
November 21st, 2008 at 6:33 pm
Jayse GM says:
Granted the Knicks saved plenty dough for 2010 but they pretty much stripped themselves now.
They could have picked up experiments like Marco Belinelli and Marcus Williams from the Warriors as well!
I hope they keep Marbury till the deadline and send him and Curry packing to South Beach for The Matrix, Mark Blount and Udonis Haslem!!

@Big Shot BOB,
I can answer your question. D’antoni doesn’t expect to defend ANYBODY. People want to hate on Zach, but in D’antoni’s uptempo system, he’s put up 20.5 and 12.5. You don’t just give up that kind of production for cap space. I’m so done. Just when I was getting hopeful about the team. Andrew Katz, remember “get on the Knicks’ bandwagon now” column? Glad I didn’t bite. I guess now’s the time for a “Knicks Lottery Watch ‘09 (and ‘10)” page. SMFH.

George W: The Knicks don’t have a 2010 pick. It’s 2009 and the 2010 free agent market, or bust.
I really like D’Antoni, but these Knicks are going to be more painful to watch than the Thunder at the rate they’re shedding contracts.

Horrible like some foos said.. i hate the Knicks but its hard watching a team tear themselves apart like this.. How do you trade 20-10 for TIM THOMAS??

I think the Cavs will trade Lebron for some talent before free agency. Teams that could give up some talent (but keep their “superstar”) and keep bron after his contract runs out …
Lakers
Houston
Hornets (maybe)
Detroit
Raptors
Bulls (maybe)
Celtics
No gaurantee for NY there won’t be a trade or a sign and trade and they miss out …
