Carmelo is Going for 44 Tonight
Tonight, the Chauncey Billups-less Nuggets are going to be playing the Golden State Warriors. Carmelo Anthony has something planned for them:
At the Nuggets’ shootaround, there was a post-election buzz. Carmelo Anthony smiled and said “I’m going to try to score 44 tonight,” in honor of president-elect Barack Obama, who was elected Tuesday as America’s 44th president.
It is against the Warriors, so it’s not out of the question that it could happen.

I never understand why some guys like to announce that they’re going to torch a team or get a certain amount of points before a game. It’s like going out on the court and yelling HEY EVERYBODY, THROW ME OFF MY GAME! MORESO THAN USUAL, PLEASE! THANKS!
It almost never works. It’s like the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer gives the Make-A-Wish kid a signed Yankees ball that he wasn’t supposed to give away, and then has to bargain for it back by guaranteeing that some yankee was going to get three home runs. At that point, even if you get two home runs with bases loaded, it’s still not enough. If Melo scores 38 points tonight, normally it would be looked at as great, especially since it seems like he gets all of his points on mid-range jumpers, but now it won’t be enough. And now that AI is gone, he’s the only offensive option and will be the one guy that teams are going to shut down anyway. He should have just gone out and tried to score 44 and if he did, dedicate it to Obama.

Watching Lebron tonight, you give him the team Melo’s had the past couple years, that’s a 55+ win team in Denver, and Cleveland wouldn’t win 30 games with Melo leading them.
