Chauncey Billups Will Wear John Elway’s Number

If you’ve been to Denver before, you’d know that John Elway virtually owns the city. There’s a car dealership every quarter-mile with his name on it, and there are people still wearing Broncos No. 7 to this day.

But there’s a new sheriff in town. Now that hometown hero Chauncey Billups has returned, he’s going to bring it full circle by wearing No. 7, the number of his city’s greatest champion.

This is what I love about Chauncey. He’s sending a message to his teammates while also putting pressure on himself to deliver a championship to Denver. While virtually everyone has called the trade in favor of the Pistons, this gesture is Chauncey’s first way to say that he’s going to show the city that he was worth the price.

I still like this trade by leaps and bounds for the Pistons. But Denver got themselves a class act.

Way to rep your city pimp

“While virtually everyone has called the trade in favor of the Pistons…”

Wait…I think everyone (at least on these posts) called it in favor of Denver.

  4. QuEsT??? says:

oh no kermit, the pistons got the better of the deal. AI Is a very underrated passer, go watch the allstar games.

  5. karizmatic says:

Yeah Kermit, I was about to say the same thing…you guys at Dime must just have a disagreement about it, because I could have sworn there is at least one post that says most people call this trade in favor of Denver.

  6. GEE...Please report to the office! says:

Yeaaaa Elway. Sometimes you got to through that struggle before you are great. I go back before Elway and the tree Amigos and all them Superbowl losses.

I like the move for Chauncy, smart way to move the crowd.

Naw most everywhere that I see has Detroit as being the ones who came out on top in the trade.

Denver can never come out on top as long as George Karl is there. I don’t care.

Denver’s mindset is all wrong. According to the Melo interview, his goal is trying to get to the playoffs (not a championship). I also agree with Gee…they’ll go nowhere with George Karl.

  8. doc says:

Check the All Star game? There is NO D in that game. And I like Chauncey and Melo out that deal.

If you check these post, only the people that spend there time hating on Iverson are the ones who like the deal better for the Nuggets. I personally think the deal is beneficial for both teams.

But the fact that the Nuggets will be buying out McDyss because he doesn’t want to play there and he will more then likely be returning to Detroit is a big plus for Detroit. Also the fact that Detroit has covered both ends of the trade spectrum in getting a box-office star in Iverson while still getting huge cap relief. The Pistons are so well disciplined that they have been winning without Billups. They are also veterens who know how to win under any circumstance. This should be a really good situation for Iverson and Detroit.

As far as Denver, that depends on Melos attitude… Melo plays the game real lazy at times and has a tendency to lose his head in difficult situations. I think Billups is a good pick up because he is a class act but that team is probably the most undisciplined team I have ever seen. Their b-ball IQ is close to zero. Also, they basically put even more salery on their payroll..so it defeated the whole purpose of trading off Camby. That organization just doesn’t seem like they know how to build contending teams. Like someone said, Denver is just trying to make the playoffs, not trying to contend..they were just wasting Iversons time. Good luck Chauncy.
