Chris Bosh Wants To Be The MVP
CB4The Fantasy Doctor said that Chris Bosh is right at the top of the list for Fantasy MVP thus far this season. But the majority of real MVP talk at this point has revolved around LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, and Kobe.
And Bosh isn’t making any qualms about how he wants his name included in that mix - even if it’s still November.
“I’ve been sharing that with my family, I haven’t shared it with you guys, but now you know,” he said. “I came into this season saying I’m going to give it a shot. I think I can get it and we need more wins, of course, but when I think of MVPs in the past, I think of consistency and you know, every they night they put it out there on the floor and, when need be, they put their teams on their backs.”
We have to wait until Christmas rolls around to have a serious “Who Should Be The MVP” debate. But for Bosh to say that he wants the award now is a big win for the Raptors, because it will hopefully address the biggest knock on CB4’s game: that he doesn’t believe in himself as much as others believe in him.
“He’s a 20-point scorer on a bad night and we just talked about him being more consistent, having that mentality, that attitude of feeling like he’s the best player on the court when he steps on the court,” said Mitchell.

I’m sure Bosh believes in himself and is confident enough in his game, otherwise he wouldn’t even think about the MVP.
It’s just that others believe in him more. That doesn’t make him weak, it makes him humble and maybe even hungry. And those are good things to be, because you know he’s grounded enough to keep working hard and play within the team concept.
Sometimes, it’s better to be a good teammate, than just be a good player.

If the Raptors can stop sucking and start winning, Bosh should be a serious candidate. He’s the only guy in the scoring race who shoots a high percentage. He’s also in the rebounding race. Every team comes into Toronto with a gameplan designed to shut him down, and except Boston, no team has had much success. Boston’s success was largely because our coaches failed to adjust. The ridiculous thing for the Raptors is that Bosh doesn’t even get that many touches.

The best thing about Bosh - from the star - is that he is all about hard work.
Watch his draft night interview. They asked him what he was looking forward to and he said, “Hitting the gym and becoming a better basketball player”.
No wonder Vince Carter tanked it. How do you compete with someone who WANTS to do the hard work?
Had Bosh been able to channel his work ethic into VC (like Oakley did) they’d have been competing for rings each year.

Brown says:
@FED
Nobody can offer Bosh more money than the Raptors. However, with Bosh not being a player who’s all about the money, that makes it more likely for him to leave. What worries me is that the Raps haven’t been able to build around him, a la Kevin Garnett in Minnesota. I don’t think Bosh is willing to waste his prime on a team where he has to do everything with so little help. The only player helping him right now is Jose Calderon. JO’s health is obviously not good, so that pretty much takes him out of the equation.
I was talking to one of my friends about this last night, and I think Brian Colangelo made a colossul mistake in drafting Bargnani. When your franchise player is a 4, you don’t draft another 4 with the NUMBER 1 PICK. He said he was drafting the “best player available,” which was total horseshit, since nobody besides him thought he was worthy of a #1 pick. If you’re going to build around Bosh, you pick players who can start around him, not a guy who’s going to come off the bench that plays the same position.
If Bosh does leave, I think the blame has to rest solely on Colangelo’s shoulders. Unless he can work some magic and put a contender together by the end of next year, I can see Bosh leaving, which would set the franchise back about 10 years.
I hope it doesn’t happen, but it wouldn’t surprise me. The Raps do have some decent cap space in 2010, so that may bode well for them.
The way the Raps are playing right now, Bosh has to maintain those big numbers to get them in the playoffs.

Raps do have jermaine’s 20 mil contract up in ‘09 along with alot of other contracts (bargnani’s 5 mil, kapono’s 5 mil in ‘10)… the only big contract left would be calderons 7-8 mil
also I don’t think that Detroit would necessary be the team that bosh would go to if he leaves the Raps. I actually think he might go to the Lakers, or maybe even the Heat. He wants to be teamed up with another superstar which Detroit is would be lacking if A.I. left. Rip hamilton’s game is sick and Im a big fan but he’s not a superstar so the prospect of playing with a lebron/wade/kobe would be tempting than Detroit.
That being said there’s no doubt the Pistons will be a big player and will have loads of money to throw his way but I just think that Bosh is not all about the money but more about the opportunities at championships. I mean yes money is important but EVERYONE is gonna offer bosh MAX money

another point…
what i forgot to say is that lots of things will change in TWO years. Two years worth of free agents signings and trade deadlines will change alot of teams and the entire landscape of which teams become contenders and etc. Bosh could very well land with the Spurs or the Magic or the Rockets or maybe even the Cavs (if they keep lebron)
all im saying is that its kinda pointless to be predicting such unpredictable things now.
oh and yeah, I HIGHLY doubt that Lebron is going to the Knicks… I mean why the FUCK would he go THERE of all places? They only advantage to playing in MSG is the money (MAAD endorsements). Other than that there’s no way he’s playing for the Knicks b/c I cant see them making enough moves in two years to be able to grab lebron or wade.

I dont know bout the pistons man… they have the pieces for sure but it’s all up to Rasheed imo. He’s the difference maker but he always seems to let me down. I remember watching him go up against KG in the conf. finals last year and not come through. Takes wayyyyyy too many jumpers.
I have no doubt that A.I./Rip/Prince will show up but it’s everyone else that concerns me. Like when they go up against the celtics/cavs/lakers/hornets I kinda wonder if they can match up well enough over a 7 game series.
And yo whats up with Stuckey? Isn’t he supposed to be dominating by now? gettin numbers like 13-15pts 4-6asst? I mean he’s killin me in the fantasy leagues. I keep waiting for him to break out but hes shooting like 37% FG and 25% 3pts for 8pts/3.5asst in 20 mins which isnt that bad but he should get more minutes no?

Jau28 says:
As a raps fan I can say I am impressed with Rondo. Ever since his rookie year, he seems to be proving all the doubters wrong (including me). Now I consider Jose Calderon a top 10 PG in this league but the way Rondo and Harris were cuttin’ him up I might have to reconsider that. bill is right we should give rondo some love but if there is one thing about his game that I don’t like is that he doesn’t have a jumper yet. if he can get a consistent 20-25 ft jumper of the dribble he would be DEADLY. He already plays with alot of effort and energy that to me he’s more of a defensive PG but rondo keeps killing us raptors everytime we play. I swear I bet he averages like 20ppg on 65% fg shooting against us.
November 28th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Brown says:
Isn’t there a rule that states the Raps could offer Bosh 100% of the max contract value, while other teams can only offer 80%? I’m pretty sure there is. The only way a player can change teams and get 100% max contract value is if it’s in a sign-and-trade.
Anyone at Dime able to clear this up for me?
November 28th, 2008 at 2:30 pm
Brown says:
@Jau28
The reason Rondo cuts us up is because Calderon can’t guard opposing PGs with better athleticism than him.
The main thing the Raptors lack is athleticism from their perimeter players. It kills them on both ends of the floor.

Kalan F. says:
There is no way Chris Bosh will be an MVP in the league as long as he plays in Toronto. It’s a hockey town. Nobody cares about basketball up there. He’s one of the best players in the league and he has certainly been ballin it up lately, but his team is not great. They won’t be one of the top four teams in the East. So there is no way on God’s green earth that Chris Bosh will be an MVP, especially if he keeps playing up there in Canada. No disrespect to Canadians. I’m just stating the truth.
November 29th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
Jau28 says:
@Kalan
the truth is that is a huge misconception and stereotype of canadians… I’m from Toronto and I don’t give a fuck about the Leafs. I’m all about basketball and football. To say that is pretty ignorant. Now of course Canadians love hockey more than any other sport because it’s the only sport that we are truly great at but there are TONS of ppl who CARE about basketball. We wouldn’t be top 10 in attendence every year if that was the case. I know you dont mean disrespect but a lot of ppl care about basketball.. alot more than you Americans know. I mean honestly, it’s like me saying Americans don’t care about hockey all they care about is football
