Classless?

KGKevin Garnett had nothing to say…

We know the Pistons and Celtics aren’t exactly poker buddies, but as the final seconds ticked off the clock in tonight’s Boston blowout win, we noticed everyone on the Celtics except for the guys on the court were well on their way to the locker room before the final buzzer sounded. The NBA’s post-game decorum isn’t that of the NFL (where everyone meets at midfield and says their prayers and What-Up’s) or Major League Baseball (where you shake hands with your own teammates; that always seems weird) — usually NBA guys don’t acknowledge each other unless they’re boys or someone makes a point of seeking out a chat. But most of the time at least, you wait until the final buzzer before you start making the walk back to the locker room.

Was that a classless gesture by the Celtics?

the ‘chip have really gone on to their heads right now… they need a reality check of some sort… can’t wait for the first game between them and the Lakeshow this season… Mamba’s goin’ to bust they bubble…

  2. adam ivy says:

you notice KG doesnt talk mess to rasheed… funny how he only jaws at the little guys and then he gets all huffy and puffy when they come right back at him…

  3. Austin Burton says:

Time to start playing mind games; the Pistons should hire Anthony Peeler as a “special assistant” before the playoffs.

  4. Ross says:

Most of the blame goes to their locker room leader Kevin Garnett just for being a complete douche bag in every way possible.

  5. srb says:

    no

    it was not classless

  6. Obama says to McCain "Hows my @ss taste"? says:

I dont know if it was classless or not, but the Celts been smelling themselves since last season. How quickly does Paul Pierce forget that it was not even 1 season ago that his team was tanking for the lottery. SMH, but they are the defending champs..The Pistons played horrible tonight, starting with AI on down, everyone looked a mess..I understand it was a back-to-back but still. I try not to put to much weight on games in November, though the Pistons need their @sses whooped for getting blown out like that. I still think the Pistons are the second best team in the East though. Celtics are first, then Pistons, then maybe Cleveland and so on…

  7. the_don_mega says:

@ Austin: LOL for the Peeler reference!!!

  8. Knickhopeful says:

The earlier the Piston’s take their hits in the season the better.

  9. Mr. Right says:

Detroit isn’t even on top of it’s division and you’re saying they’re better than Cleveland?!

    Odd.

  10. Don Mega says:

KG is just losing his shit lately … guy fucking lost his mind once he won that ‘chip

  11. Obama says to McCain "Hows my @ss taste"? says:

    Mr Right

All the winning quality teams with winning records that Cleveland has played so far this season (Celtic, Pistons, Hornets) they have lost to. That 8-0 run was smoke and mirrors. I think people are putting too much wieght into just two weeks into the season. I think Cleveland has improved as a team..but no, I still do not think they are the second best team in the East no matter what the standings are right now (and by the way Detroit is just one game behind Cleveland for that spot). Unlike some, I am not a bandwaggoner and just because some of these teams come out hot (Hawks, CAVS)..doesnt mean they are better then the Elite teams. Lets see where the teams are mid season before we start crowning Cleveland one of the “Beast of the East”.

  12. Celticsdada says:

how the hell was that classless ?? Are u freaking kiding me ?? they literally left the bench with like 2 or 3 seconds left…have u look at the pistons bench ???

One thing u need to know about KG is he doesnt like young players, who is not in his class; so get some info about him first before you talk shiet about him. He and Sheed are cool since the first day.

  13. Celticsdada says:

    Its funny:
All these people who have issues with KG’s intensity have either of two problems:
    A. They are jealous because they didnt have the skills at 19 to make it in the NBA. That “street” crap you see on TV with the “and one” show doesnt cut it in the real game. You should be ashemed that you actually from the hood, make it better, not glorify it

    B. They have a certain “issue” in the short pants, and get upset whenever they see a man acting intense. It makes them shrink up like a cold winter day can do.

  14. Obama says to McCain "Hows my @ss taste"? says:

^Damn ‘Celticsdada’ calm down before you have a heart attack…got your blood pressure all up. LMAOOO!!!

  15. tim says:

the Celtics are a bunch of Classless bums…ie Paul Pierce, Eddie House, and Kevin Garnett.

  16. Craig says:

@ Obama says to McCain “Hows my @ss taste

how can you say that less then one season ago paul pierce team was tanking for the lottery…wasnt one year ago, which is longer then a season, P Doubles team was going to the finals

  17. qUeSt??? says:

hell yea they are classless bitches

  18. Obama says to McCain "Hows my @ss taste"? says:

    Craig…

Okay fine, the season before last the Celtics were tanking (if you need me to get absolutely specific). You know, the season they had to tank in order to trade off just about all their guys just to get KG? You know…when the team was beyond garbage, yeah that season. SMH

And I think just about everyone with commen sense knew it was very obvious that halfway during that season they decided just to tank and go high in the draft.

  19. Obama says to McCain "Hows my @ss taste"? says:

Oh and by the way, I like the Celtics (before anybody come talking sh*t about my comment)…but them and their fans do seem to forget that before last season their team was garbage for a while.

  20. JCARR says:

And they represent the NBA champions what a shame! Hockey does a great sportsmanship routine where all the players align and shake hands. Hockey is way more violent and boring to watch, but yet they put their differences aside. Yet they still show more sportsmanship???

I want to see KG on ice skates and stick!!! he doesnt have a chance. He would be crawling to the nearest exit

  21. Gerard says:

    ^?

  22. solomon says:

KG is like a high school bully – he picks on those who he absolutely knows won’t fight back… good poinr mentioned above – you aint ever gonna see KG jaw @ rasheed… or s-jax… or artest… or even shaq…

oversized bully with an overinflated ego and overexaggerated intensity…

  23. the_don_mega says:

is that a homer i just read??? LOL!!! get them Celtics jockstraps for only $5.99…LOL!!!

  24. knocks says:

Classless? For walking back to the locker room early??? Give me a break. You acknowledge the fact that the NBA post-game decorum is unlike the NFL and MLB (and NHL, according to the dude above), then in the same breath ask if the move was classless???

If the Celts (or any other team) ain’t planning to shake hands and exchange pleasantries, then what’s the point of “being nice” and hanging around to the buzzer??? So Kevin Harlan can say “And great sportsmanship displayed by both sides?” Just so America can feel good??? Again….give me a break.

  25. knocks says:

Game was over by halftime anyway….

Now, if the starters just kinda packed up their s#!t and left the court in the middle of the 3rd Q, then maybe THAT would be considered classless….Would be funny, though.

  26. changster says:

it isn’t just garnett being a d-bag every chance he gets, it’s also things like sam i am doing his big balls dance last year.. if that isn’t classless i don’t know what is. what’s up w/ all the boston teams being classless winners?? the rest of the country hates you far worse than even the ny teams

  27. LMR says:

not only are the Celtics players classless all their fan base is classless lol.

    i’ll just leave this here
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsXPZVPIjxE&feature=related

  28. Justin says:

I don’t think it was classless. Players don’t hug and exchange pleasantries after games much anymore. Sometimes even coaches don’t shake hands but rather just wave to each other. It’s not just the Celtics.

It’s also an issue of circumstance. It was a blowout, no starters were on the floor, the Celtics have to catch a late flight to Minnesota for another game, they probably wanted to leave quickly. All those stuff. If it was a closely fought game and the players are around each other on the floor at the end, sure, I don’t think they would’ve given each other the cold shoulder. The only time there’s a definite and extended mass embrace is at the end of a playoff series.

  29. Nora says:

People sure get their ‘panties in a bunch’ over any perceived slight. None of the teams talked about it at the end of the game. Did Detroit have a shot of coming back in the last few seconds? I have never seen so much whining over anything in my life. Celtics won the championship so lets just make sure every little thing they do is scutinized so you can find some fault with it.

  30. E$ says:

who cares, most of these guys know each other off the court. I’ve seen coaches (Pop) will just wave @ the other coach and walk off.

  31. SoulOnIce says:

Is this the “Bash KG Campaign” or something???

Last night, he was one of the few who hung around once the game was over, and chopped it up with Rasheed. Doc Rivers chopped it up as well. I don’t know what everyone else was watching.

Granted, I’ve seen them on some other stuff lately, but with KG, he’s always been extra, even before the ring. It may look excessive now, but I think it’s because the Celtics are on TV all the time, so some people are just seeing what the rest of us have been seeing since he got in the league.

  32. ENEW says:

This topic has brought out some real senseless responses.

Anyone who thinks Kevin Garnett is classless is watching something else. The guy plays at a level that not many can ever reach, what is wrong with intensity? Maybe if guys on the teams all you haters were fans of played that hard and had that passion you’d understand. Yeah Garnett only goes after little guys, he was suspended for hitting Andrew Bogut last week!!! Last spring he put Sheed in the blender in the 6 game series and kicked his ass. Last winter in Boston against Yao Ming Perkins fouled out, KG dominated Yao in the 4th quarter and shut him out.

Leaving the bench with 3 seconds on the clock and not hugging and kissing at half court which to me has gotten rediculous is classless? LETS ALL FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO TALK ABOUT.

  33. GayforRudy says:

I feel sorry for anyone that roots for Boston teams. Not because I am jealous… but because you think a complete lack of class is the “right way” to win.

Choke on your popped collars you frat boy meat heads!

  34. Joe says:

classless just like the isaah pistons. its starts with KG’s lanky azz.

  35. Sho-Nuff says:

When the Pistons did it to MJ and the Bulls no one said a a word. They RAN off the court with 11 seconds to go.

  36. Big North says:

Well I for one am all about it, classless or not. Over the past few years the league got “Sissified” to take a quote from Friday. People going out to dinner and clubs before/after games and such. After that we wonder why there arent any more rivalries. Think teh heat and the knicks from back int he day palled around like that, or the bulls and pistons. Shit more teams need to get punked like that. More teams need to step up and be the bad guy, the league is too sweet

  37. Smitty313 says:

They did say something when he Piston did it to the Bulls. They said it was classless. I love KG and his intensity, but this year I do think he’s taking it to far. That incident with Calderon was not called for. The Celtics didn’t act like this last year, they were humble. Now you got guys who barley play talking shit. No one likes a bad winner.

  38. control says:

Here are the Celt’s new uniforms:

    http://media.ebaumsworld.com/picture/teeg420/4_popped-collars_cool.jpg

No one will ever be as cool as them.

  39. QQ says:

The Celtics could absolutely do that because ANYTHING IS POSSIBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

  40. Shakers says:

I don’t get why people are saying that KG has lost his mind now that he won that chip. He’s always been crazy! What the hell is the difference now?

  41. Alucard says:

    Classless?

    Yes.

But the bigger problem is the silly goatees that Pierce and Garnett are growing.

It’s one thing to think of yourselves as basketball royalty, but to try and emulate King Tut is just silly.

  42. ConverseWeapon says:

Pathetic. Dime, you’re better than this.

Instead of bringing up this type of petty nonsense, you should be celebrating the Celtics for being one the better basketball TEAMS in recent memory.

Of course, fantasy nerds DO have a hard time seeing anything that doesn’t show up in a boxscore.

  43. rell says:

What is the different from this year than last year? Nothing. KG has alway had the same intensity and acted the same way throughout his career. Duncan, Peeler, McDyees, Hammonds, etc, etc. And all this was doing his T’Wolves days

    @Smitty313
When you said “Now you got guys who barely play talking” are you talking about Eddie House. If so, last year at beginning of the season my homeboi who is a huge Knick fan said Eddie House was talking noise from the bench throughout the game. This have nothing to do with the championship because House has alway been like that.

People are hating Boston because they won the title at that is it. No one was talking this noise last season but now they are called classless when the Celts acted the same last season. Last year at this time alot of people on this board was hating the Spurs the same way. The way I see it if a team win the title, next year the team will be the most hated team on Dime.

  44. solomon says:

people are hating not the C’s organization, but the C’s players – them acting like douchebags and all:

pierce – proclaims self as best player in the world
KG – became more bully, more loudmouth, exaggerated intensity / borderline insanity

forgive me if my memory’s crappy, but i didn’t remember the previous championship teams act like that, particularly the spurs…

  45. fahrique says:

Ever since “Suckerpunch” gave a cheap shot in a pick-up game to his own teammate Rick Rickert (rookie had the audacity to score on KG), I’ve lost all respect for Garnett. He’s one of the greatest players, without question, but he’s got some serious and severe insecurities going on inside his head, and judging by his recent tough-guy antics, it’s just going to get worse. Classless douchebag is exactly the right description.
