Converse Philly Run

During the 2008-2009 NBA season, Converse will host the Philly Run basketball program in Philadelphia, PA. Philly Run gives kids, regardless of skill level, the opportunity to play basketball. The program is free for all participants and will take place once a month through May.

Three hundred plus kids packed into Girard College’s gymnasium last Saturday to participate in this installment of Converse’s Philly Run. Held at the aforementioned Girard College, whose campus rivals any college in Philly…especially since it is a high school, kids were greeted by hot tunes from Philly’s own DJ Truuf, a bunch of Converse giveaways, great food, and video games.

If that wasn’t enough, Elton Brand made an appearance and gave each participant a pair of his new signature shoe, the Converse EB1. Brand embraced every aspect of the event; from helping with registration, to mingling with the kids. Elton was everywhere.

Brand has been embraced by the Philadelphia community and you can definitely tell. The kids were ecstatic to see the 76er forward. The crowd erupted as Brand took the floor to speak to the kids. Before Elton addressed the kids he looked on as they played ball from his green room and loved every minute of it; “This is great. All the kids are playing and having fun. There wasn’t anything like this when I was growing up.”

All of the kids left anxiously awaiting the next Philly Run. If you are in the Philadelphia area and love basketball, this is definitely an event you don’t want to miss. For more information on the EB1 and Converse Philly Run hit up www.converse.com
