Don’t Be Like Gilbert
Don’t listen to meEven if Gilbert Arenas doesn’t plan on voting tomorrow, it doesn’t mean you should follow suit.
We’ve chronicled both sides of the campaign from Obama talking smack to Palin lying about her hoops history to a proposed game of one-on-one with The Terminator and Barry O’Bomber.
We’ve let you know where the rookies stand, who LeBron and Jay-Z are punching in and which second-year player is getting out the vote.
Now it comes down to you. With less than 24 hours before the election, let us know who you’re voting for and why.

Barack Obama says:
Yes, it is me…the supreme, omniscient Chosen One. On the eve of my coronation I have decided to reach out to the people and give my NBA predictions. (In case you didn’t know…I used to ball!)
Magic 85
Bulls 85
Kings 96
Sixers 96
Bobcats 90
Pistons 90
Warriors 101
Grizzlies 101
Clippers 97
Jazz 97
Cavaliers 101
Mavs 90
Now, I know that not one of you is as smart as I am, but even Dime readers can notice I have brought Change to the NBA. Under me, once any team earns enough points, I will then redistribute all points they earn and award their points to the losing teams. I mean, it isn’t the Knicks fault that they suck…and it isn’t fair that they aren’t as successful as other teams like the Spurs. And if any muthafuckas try to become too successful, I will spread their point wealth around faster than you can say “Austin Burton spread your butt cheeks.”
Now you may have also noticed why the only team I have losing is Dallas…well that is in Texas, and we all know that those dumb bastards are still clinging to guns and religion there. I will show them what happens when you don’t follow The One!!

Obama all the way. The man is educated. Sarah Palin is a liability. McCain clearly made his VP decision for political purposes as opposed to choosing someone who would compliment him and negate his weaknesses (exhibit A: the economy). On the other hand, you have Obama who went out on a limb to choose someone who not only negates his weaknesses but will further the executive checks and balances since Biden and him don’t see eye to eye.
Ultimately, I think it comes down to the fact that Obama would run CIRCLES around McCain in a pick-up game.
OBAMA BIDEN!

Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
this is a tough election for me… I am still undecided less than 24 hours to go. I don’t like McCain’s choice of VP and I think he did that as a response to Obama winning in the polls early on and he felt he needed to do something, so with little research done. (I relate to what the West did last year when the Lakers got Pau, the Suns traded for Shaq and the Mavs traded for Kidd.)
I don’t like Pailin at all, she’s a little to wacky… From what I’ve heard she also wants the raped girls to not have choices as to whether or not to get abortions. Thats a little too radical if it’s true…Supposedly Obama doesn’t support gun rights. So I don’t know. However I am curious to know how many people are going to vote for one candidate or the other simply because of their skin color.
I don’t make 250K, I like Obama’s speeches better and I must say that if McCain already made the VP move he did without research then how much more is he going to make decisions without research.
I would like to vote for Obama and then go and see my family in Alabama and when they ask who I voted for and I say Obama hear all the rage about what he is or isn’t and then I can give my reason and then ask them how much did color of skin come into play, because they don’t make over 250K… Just put em on blast.

Obama is the ONLY intelligent choice. The man is a game-changer. He is the right person for our nation after the Republican/Bush bloodless coup of 2000 and 2004. Those people have been proven to be master liars, crooks, thieves and they even outed a CIA agent!! They’ve used our military for their own GREED in a war without an end! Victory??? I mean, who’s going to surrender to us in Iraq? Bush/McCain republicans want to pay the defense industry $10 billion a month FOREVER!! And a McCain as president would be more of the same. Those people hate average citizens–you only register on their radar if you’re a millionaire. They are anti-average person in every way. If you have half a brain, Obama is the only choice!

I have kids, so I am negligent as a parent if I vote for McCain.
Obama in ‘08. Best case scenario is that he is as good as we expect him to be and he causes a division in the republican party that will force them to redefine themselves. They will be forced to create a party for the Christian right and one for true old-school conservatives. The real conservatives and the republican “moral majority” have always made odd bed fellows anyways.
Worst case he is far better than McCain. I am always nervous when any one party gets too much power, and the Dems will probably lock it up. They may have 60 seats in the Seneate and clear majority in the House. If that happens things could move quickly, which makes me even happier that Obama is in office because I think he thinks about what he does, which will be needed if he has as much power as is being predicted.

I am a white guy. I have to admit that I understand what Josh Howard said on the camara phone about not celebrating the Pledge. Imagine what happens to all the black folks in this country if we have a black a president? A democracy only works with two conditions: 1) participation and 2) educated populace. I think that Obama will contribute to both. I hope to live in a world that a young black man belives those first words on our constitution “..that all men [peopel] are created equal…)

@ Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09): do some fucking research! You “heard” that Palin wants this, and Obama “supposedly” wants that. Have you heard of google.com?
Since you’re probably too lazy, let me fill you in. Palin opposes all abortion, EXCEPT if the mother’s life is in danger. McCain on the other hand, doesn’t know how you would determine that a woman’s “health” is in danger, but he says abortion is okay if the woman was raped.
Obama fully supports the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.
Are you ignorant regarding any other issues?!

You see the great thing about this country is that “I” have the right to be undecided, just as you have the right to act as a complete ass on the internet.

@ Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09):
Yes, I’m attacking you for being undecided. In this age of 24-hour news channels and broadband internet, how can you not be fully informed regarding the candidates? What is going to sway your decision in the next 24 hours? What issues are most important to you?
I really don’t care who you vote for…Obama, McCain, Paul, Barr. You could write-in Nader, and I wouldn’t ridicule you. But, I’m genuinely curious as to why you’re still undecided. So, please enlighten me.

Anyway as I was saying. Yes him being black is a factor for me. I am not saying that its the only reason or not even the majority of any reasons. I am simply saying it’s a factor for me. When I think about all my race (black if you can’t tell) has gone through to be able to vote, to not be counted as less than a man, going through slavery, to even have this opportunity to have a black president considering there have been what 43 white presidents, then yea pimpin race is a factor for me in the whole scheme of things.
Now that is not to say if he was black and totaaaally unqualified that I would vote for dude, cause that is crazy. I am simply saying, rather than lie like many, that yea him being black is a factor and for me it would be for any minority be it indian, chinese or alien green.
So if you feel me saying him being black as a factor for my voting is racist.

Desrat says:
@ # 25 Jones,
You make errors dude, which is fine but you claim to be informed. Barr is running as is Nader, you would have to write in Paul (lost in the GOP primaries; doing a silent revolution of the GOP but he is a Libertarian not a Republican).
I do not believe that it is easier to be informed because of the great availability of information. Can you tell me what boards McCain sat on in the ’90s and what countries they were active in? Can you tell me what McCain did in school? What about his past associations? The chill between himself and Rove? Not many people can because Obama did not run an attack oriented campaign. You can have a whole lot of information without being informed. That is much harder. And you really should not eat dudes lunch for participating. Maybe it is just that he thinks before he leaps; A quality I would want in a president BTW.
November 3rd, 2008 at 5:51 pm
Jones says:
@ Sam I Am:
I agree that it’s difficult to trust anyone nowadays. However, if you’re still undecided because you don’t trust the candidates, what is going to change your mind in the next day? That is what I don’t understand: the campaign has been going on for much too long, and people are STILL undecided. Will the undecideds have an epiphany in the next 24 hours?!
“Obama doesn’t convince…” meaning what? You don’t trust what he’s been saying? Obama hasn’t convinced you that he’s the best candidate? I’m not sure if McCain is entirely clueless, or just being fucked over by the GOP. To think that he “selected” Palin as VP after only a 60-minute meeting with her, makes me wonder exactly how much control McCain has had over his campaign.
I know net neutrality doesn’t get a lot of press, but let’s take a look at SOME of Obama’s tech advisers:
*Ellen Goodman - a high-tech law expert at Rutgers University
*Kevin Werbach - a tech guru-writer and University of Pennsylvania professor
*Reed Hundt and William Kennard - former FCC chairmen from the Clinton-Gore administration
*John Nakahata - a communications attorney at Harris Wiltshire and a former FCC official
*Mark Johnson - a telecom-media specialist at The Carlyle Group
Now, that’s just a small sampling of the tech advisers that Obama has working for him. Thus, I don’t think it’s a stretch to think that Obama would be even more judicious when selecting advisers for more important matters.

Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
I want to make one thing clear… I am not uninformed, there is a lot that I have read about the candidates, I just don’t trust either one of them. Like I said I think Obama is smarter, I like his potential policies, but he does scare me. McCain is a complete idiot in my opinion. But then I don’t like Biden and I can’t stand Pailin. So we all know which way I am leaning, but not so much for Obama as for the Democrats…
Also I think you all over looked the point of the message
“I would like to vote for Obama and then go and see my family in Alabama and when they ask who I voted for and I say Obama hear all the rage about what he is or isn’t and then I can give my reason and then ask them how much did color of skin come into play, because they don’t make over 250K… Just put em on blast”.
Also I really do believe that a woman should have a choice as to whether or not carry that pregnancy to term. Now don’t get me wrong, If it was my girl and my baby then I would be against it, but it’s not up to me and that’s what makes this country so great is the right to choose.

@ Desrat:
I stand corrected. Third-party candidates (hopefully) won’t make much of a difference this election, so I haven’t really paid much attention to who else is on the ballot.
Do you think Obama should have ran more attack ads so people would be more “informed” about McCain?
November 3rd, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Desrat says:
@ Jones
Not at all. I think that Obama has the correct position (almost wrote “right!” lol) and he should run on that. I am tired of ad humanum attacks. One great point that you made is that a presidency is not a vote for one person, the office is a reflection of the people that are also there. The people that will be working with Obama are much better than those that would be working with McCain. That is one of the biggest reasons that I support Obama.
I am a white guy, and I would vote for the platform that Obama is running on even if he looked like Bidden, but I must admit I am very excited for my white son to grow up in a time when a black man has the highest office in the land. It makes me proud to be American.

Jones says:
@ Desrat:
Agreed…the vote for presidency is definitely more than a vote for a single person. It’s also a vote for his “team,” and his policies. Also, let’s not be complacent or naive, and think that Obama can bring about change if the Dems don’t get 60 seats in the Senate. It would be bittersweet if Obama won, but the Dems got less than 60 seats.
Also, not to be a Grammar Nazi, but it’s “ad hominem.”
Anyway, let the count for 270 begin! It’s been a long, long campaign!
