Fantasy Implications of Allen Iverson/Chauncey Billups Trade

JR SmithJR Smith could be in for a nice value boost.

The Billups and McDyess to Denver for Allen Iverson has huge fantasy implications (at least it does once it is official). Here we go with exactly what, and who, you need to know. If you haven’t seen our breaking news post on the trade, it’s right HERE.

Rodney Stuckey – Yes we’re starting with Stuckey. Supposedly this deal was made so Stuckey could run the point in Detroit. Possibly moving Rip to the 3 and Tayshaun to the 6th man role. First off, is Stuckey really a point guard? I’m not sure. Either way, with Iverson in the final year of his contract, the Pistons are clearly huge Stuckey believers. You probably should be too. Great news for Stuckey owners.

JR Smith – With Billups in town, Anthony Carter will move to the bench and JR Smith should get the bulk of the minutes at the two. Great news for Smith owners. He could see a really nice boost in consistent numbers.

Jason Maxiell/Amir Johnson – Yup, that’s right skipping right to Maxiell and Johnson. Great news for Amir and Maxiell owners. It’s just one more big man (Mcdyess) out of that rotation. There is still Kwame and Sheed, but watch out for both Johnson and Maxiell. One or both could be rebounding machines. FYI – I’m not running to grab either in a 12 team league though.

Antonio McDyess – I don’t think this trade has anything to do with Kenyon Martin’s injury, but Kenyon and/or Nene is bound to go down and McDyess will probably have value at some point. At the least, he’ll compete with the Birdman for value.

Tayshaun Prince – I’ve never been a big believer in Prince as a fantasy asset. I think his minute will probably decline whether he starts or plays the 6th man role. Great NBA team player, average fantasy player.

Allen Iverson – I think the numbers will be very close to where they’ve been in Denver. His assist numbers are already solid and his scoring may drop a little but I don’t see anything too drastic.

Chauncey Billups –
I like the trade for Chauncey owners. Chauncey has become a little stale in Detroit, and has had a rough start to the year. A little change of scenery usually helps athletes.

Anthony Carter –
He might have had a great three games, but AC is headed to the bench. He shouldn’t be owned at this point.

Stephon Marbury – Evidently Denver is not a destination spot for Marbury. If he’s waived, Miami looks like the most plausible destination. That’s a good thing for Marbury owners.

“That’s a good thing for Marbury owners.”

    What Marbury owners?

  2. Sweet English says:

I own chauncey, but i don’t think this is going to be a boost for his stats. Do you think Denvers play is really going to let chauncey settle? I could sit and watch the Nuggets play all day, but Detroit has always had a more Spurs type fundamental based offence (although not quite as boring as San An).

Big Shot aint getting any younger, i don’t see how this is a good move for him? Help me Doc.

    derrick +1

That was worth spitting coffee on the keyboard for.

I like this trade for Melo who you forgot, and especially JR Smith.

With Iverson starting Smith wasn’t getting enough PT or shots. Iverso’s departure sends a clear signal to me that the Nuggets want Carmelo and Smith to be their primary scoring options.

I am not sure what this means for Detroit. Basically I think they made a mistake re-signing Chauncey and now they realize they are closer to rebuilding than winning a championship.

YOUNGFED has a tear of pain running down his left cheek and a tear of joy running down his right cheek

    lol @ that’s whats up

like the trade on both sides.

gives ai more of a chance at a ring and more cash flex next yr.

gives denver a solid pg, and allows jr and melo to do their thing.

  7. The Fantasy Doctor says:

derrick – Marbury is a legit pick up right now with rumors of him getting bought out. Really.

  8. dagwaller says:

Sidenote: If people get all hot and bothered when Bron wears Yankees caps (he must want to go to the Knicks or the Nets!!!), how much should we read into JR Smith wearing Bears apparel?!

JR SMITH TO THE BULLS, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!!!

  9. The Fantasy Doctor says:

Sweet English – I think the change will help Chauncey. I really do. But he’s certainly not getting any younger.

Kobeef – I didn’t really forget Melo. Melo was getting his numbers WITH Iverson. He’ll get his numbers without him as well. JR Smith is the big benefactor there.

  10. K Dizzle says:

JR’s already been in the Chi, and they booted his ass before

  11. control says:

    Sidenote:

That pic of JR Smith makes him look like that broken head retard on Goonies. The guy’s head is all warped and fucked up. Even his motherfucking hat can’t sit on that bent up shit correctly.

  12. 2 Easy says:

Im still not sure what to believe about Stuckey. Im still not sure whether to keep him or Session because neither is a consistent source of assists right now but I would believe Melo’s numbers will be where they were before that of the AI trade when he was threatenin to win the scoring title

  13. caribballin says:

i am 2nd on the wavier wire and stuckey is avaible Tues at 200AM…should i put in my claim and drop ridour? and lose my spot on the wire?

  14. The Gov says:

JR Smith will see a huge lift in statistics. He’s not set to do what he’s naturally made to do…score, and score a lot. I see him averaging about 20 with 3 3’s a game and he’ll actually get some good steal #s and shoot an okay %. Pick him up if you can.

  15. Nyc says:

how long should I wait to dump marcus williams and get steph?

  16. The saint says:

    carmelos scoring will up drastically

  17. son # 1 says:

should i start Azubuike or Stuckey this week?
