How Much is Too Much?
A report that tracks and publishes information on ticket prices for major professional sports has just release this year’s findings on the NBA. The average ticket price in the NBA is now at $49.47, up 2.8% from last year. The report also states that for the seventh straight year, the Los Angeles Lakers have the highest average price at $93.25.
You already know what we think of the NBA product, and in general, we don’t have an issue paying top dollar to watch the world’s greatest athletes play the world’s greatest game. But as a fan, how much is too much?

I think the NBA picks on the die hard fans…knowing the economy is tough, they actually think that they are going to suffer if they lose a dollar or 3 % on ticket charges

Most of the lower level seating is taken up by yuppie rich people that go to the games for status not to actually watch the game … kinda sucks but they throw down the cash for it.

I’m paying 50 bucks on discounted seats to sit in the 300 level of the United Center to watch the games on the Jumbotron
The atmoshpere of the games are second too none but the league should look out for the “true” fans

Everytime I visit the States I try to catch a game (or 2). Never paid much really. Always the cheapseats & just go down after a time-out in the 1ste quarter.
This used to be easier though (in 2001 I sat a couple of seats from Bill Russell & in front of Red Auerbach at a Boston vs Hornets game). Security is tighter these days though, but still, I’ve never been kicked out

Honestly, the NBA has to be mad concerned with its television image big time. The true fans have to be kept in the nosebleeds, ’cause they’re the ones that bug the heck out and make most of the noise. It was a true fan that threw that cup at Artest; imagine if he was sitting courtside? What would’ve happened then, if all those fans that bugged out were already just a few feet from the court? You get an automatic buffer zone when you have the rich fake-fans sitting in those first few rows.

I don’t really think that $50 is that expensive for a ticket. I mean I often pay three times that on ebay or stubhub for tickets at good seating. I don’t go to more than three or four games a year but I’d rather pay a little more for good seats to good games that I want to see. Then again I don’t have kids so I don’t have to worry about treating a family. I usually only pay for my lady’s ticket and she can buy her own food and drink. By the way we usually sneak in our own liquor or drink before.

Prof. TX says:
It’s the same thing that’s been happening in other sports. The real fans can’t afford to go see their teams anymore. Tickets are bought up by big businesses to give out as perks or entertainment for clients, and the rest belong to people with money who suddenly find it fashionable to attend the team of the week.
It was discussed alot during this year’s playoffs in Fenway Park and last year’s NBA playoffs in the Staples Center. Alot of people weren’t even paying attention to the game or would leave early because they just came to make an appearance or to make business deals with the guy next to them. Games are getting quieter, prices are going up, and the true fans are watching at home.

You ask “how much is too much?”
$49.47 is too much.
I catch an NBA game every so often but I pay half that price and sit in the nose bleeds. It’s a great atmosphere, but most the time I would rather sit in my seat at home and can actually tell who scored the point instead of waiting for the announcer to yell their name.
If all of us are suffering from the economy, why can’t the NBA suffer? Why do they audacity to up the ticket price by 2.8%? That also makes me want to stay home and watch it on tv.

GEE...Oooh I can't believe it! says:
30 is to much! Sports has unfortunately gotten out of control and the dollar has helped make the game filthy. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the game.
Fans have helped make it this way though. So it’s like 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other.
Thank GOD they don’t charge for the pee wee league.
