Let Allen Iverson Play The Point
Tonight Allen Iverson proved any doubters out there why the Pistons traded for him. Finally getting a W under his belt in Motown, AI filled up the box score with 30 points, nine dimes and seven boards.
While word out of Detroit earlier in the day surrounded Tayshaun Prince running the point, it looks like Iverson may be The Answer. While Prince had a great game with 26 points and 11 rebounds, the newly dubbed “point forward” only recorded two assists.
With no true point guard on the roster, the Pistons’ best bet is to let AI man the ship, with Prince occasionally starting the offense. This will allow Iverson and Rip Hamilton the chance to run defenders into the ground and trade off getting buckets.
If you’re coach Michael Curry, who do you designate as PG after tonight’s game?

AI…i think he’ll average around 8 with this roster…the play with maxiell for the jam is a sign of things to come…once Rip can get into a rhythm…Detroit will be scary again…

They barely beat the hapless Kings, without Martin, at home and all of a sudden AI is good?
AI makes the pistons weaker than they were before.

AI proved the doubters wrong by scoring 30 in a W against Sac,a team I seen lose by 20 3 times this year.I think until the playoffs come he cant prove or disprove shit. I know one thing 4 sure AI playing the point leads to disaster.AI is a scorer in the Iceman mold he just short,and I aint see Ice at the 1.

ai at the point might work in detroit as compared in denver.
melo needs the ball in his hands just like a.i., he isn’t a catch and shoot guy but more of a guy who creates his shots.
rip on the other hand, loves to catch and shoot. he can’t create and beat anyone one on one, that’s why he’s a perfect # 2 to a.i. who’s a willful passer only when trapped.
for a guy people hate on so much, he has averaged 5+ assists his career so i dunno what yall talkin bout.

Keep Tay at Point Forward. Utilize AI’s scoring ability like he was the 2-guard in Philly ‘01. He was only surrounded by guys like Matt Geiger and Geroge Lynch, eric snow, dude(a look-alike geofferey from fresh prince of bel-air) and other role players.. and they went to the finals! AI gets his by playing free flow offense. U can’t lock him in at the 1 spot. His primary objective is to score. The 1st threat is to score and it’ll open up the defense for the other guys to contribute. One can argue that 2001 was during AI’s prime. Now if AI had declined a bit in 2008, he’s got a contending squad with him this time around. Dumars made these moves and now Curry better leverage his assets on the team in the most productive way. I am rooting for Detroit for the chip this yr cuz AI aint got many yrs left in him. Two days before the news broke out about the trade, I was chattin wit my boys abt how I ‘d HATE to see AI go out without a ring. HE aint gona get it in Denver. Then this trade comes thru and I am very glad it happened. AI fan since Gerogetown homie. KEEP TAY at Point. AI at 2!

dont matter where he plays;
history tells us having Iverson means you will never win anything, for ‘01 the east was hostorically bad and that team got hitorically man handled by daddy in the finals…
Iverson is a loser! plain and simple, teams he plays on dont win anything! dude is the problem; he doesnt get it yet and never will, you cant win NBA titles with that guy in your main rotation… sadly he’s more Starbury then Parker

TO: Heartbreaker 85.
i agree what u said the first part, but I also see the reverse for Rip and AI offense. Rip can do his thing while AI does the same thing on the other side of the wing. It’s gona case MAD problems for the opposing team. dem two jus gota run thru some sets. It’ll be nuts. It will bring out the best half court game for the pistons. TP has great IQ and long reach. He can spot the open man and dish out easily over shorter PG’s. That’s the best scenario. 2 players of this type of scoring ability – one is a catch and shoot, while the other is one of the best in creating his own shot – both on the wing is gona KILL. Dime, pls have your input. Wana y’all feel abt that. Imagine that.

I think the Pistons will look a little bit better when McDyess comes back…It will let Maxiell and Amir do their own things a bit more, and keep defenses more honest.

yo mattdubbs:
ur right. The east was weak that yr. And ofcourse they gona get handled the LA dawg. It was expected. Diesel, kobe, triangle offense with harper & glen rice.
yo, but u can’t be hating on AI man. IF u a true baller how can u say he’s a loser like starbury?? AI has to be in the right system. Gota be utilized properly. He has to be at the 2, cuz that’s what he does best. Just unfortunate he’s not 6′4 and above. People gota understand how to bring out the best of people’s skill sets. For example the Raptors. Raptors were tearin it up with t-mac and vince. What others didnt see is that VINCE is not a leader. T-dot media and basketball fans put so much pressure on him. He couldn’t do it. I saw that in North Carolina, where A.Jameson was the 1st go to guy, and VC jus excelled in the Final 4. VC can’t take pressure, and t-mac’s ability to score was not fully utilized by the coaching staff to take some balance off of VC. My point is, talent has to be brought out by the coach. Role players’ capabilities are elevated by their leader. AI bringing out his mediocre Philly squad and MJ brining out the best of everyone in the championship bulls team. Matt Dubbs, Don’t hate. Appreciate. Of all the true ballers i know (collegiate, competitive or street, no one looks down on AI dawg. We all got true respect for the man. If you hatin, it really questions me if you jus a recreation ball player or just a regular basketball fan?

let ai run it.
they just gotta keep runnin the same plays they have been the past few years. he’ll get dimes off those.. and then the usual drive and kick is always effective with ai. they’ll be fine.
ive been watchin and payin attention to stats.. and ai has been fine his first games.. its the rest of the players around him that aren’t producing as much, with the exception of tayshaun prince.
this team is gonna be fine.. theyre still gellin.

Being a ‘Stones fan from the 87-88 season (lost to LA in the finals) I think that AI definitely brings something to Detroit that hasn’t been here since Isiah: STAR POWER. However, it remains to be seen if AI can and/or will play “team” ball. I think the main difference will be how Michael Curry decides to use AI. I can see Curry using AI at both guard positions (along with Tay at point forward) so that there is never the same player initiating the offense. I never much liked Iverson or his game so the jury’s still out with me. Let’s see where they’re at come February…

Where all the AI haters come from? Man gets 30,9, 7 in a win and dudes talkin about he’ll never be a winner? Dude has done more in his HOF career than 95% of the league right now will ever achieve. It goes to show just how NBA gms got no imagination as to how to use a 5-11 scoring machine who can make plays. Apart from Carmelo, who hasn’t come close to his prime, AI hasn’t played with anybody. When you callin dude a loser, you might wanna point at the gms cuz before last year heads were sayin the same shit about KG, P-Double and Ray…
