Lil Wayne: “Greg Oden Is A Bust”

Lil WayneLil Wayne (photo. Mannion)

In case you didn’t know, Lil Wayne has a blog series for ESPN The Magazine and it’s amazing. Unlike most people in the entertainment industry, he actually seems to know what he’s talking about.

For some of his basketball analysis, Weezy predicts that the Celtics will not repeat, the champions this year will come from the West and the Lakers will likely pass the Celtics’ 66 wins last year. Want something bolder? How about this:

On Greg Oden:

Greg Oden is a bust. He’s gotta show me something, man. I don’t get it. At what point in time was he dominant? I’ve never seen it. You’ve never seen it. Maybe NBA officials know something we don’t. That’s all I can figure. Maybe somebody on that staff has seen something we haven’t. But until he shows me something, I’m gonna declare him a bust. Damn shame, too.

On Trevor Ariza:

You gotta watch out for Trevor Ariza, man, he’s the secret weapon. He’s the David Price of the Lakers. That kid can flat-out play. I knew when the Lakers got him in that trade that he was gonna be great for them eventually. I’ve been keeping track of him. He’s excellent on NBA 2K9, too.

On the Knicks:

The Knicks have been something else, man. You got Marbury and Eddy Curry not even part of the system? Damn. I hit Eddy up on the two-way last night asking what’s up and he hasn’t responded yet so we’ll see.

You can read his whole blog post HERE.

I just wrote in my vote for Weezy F this morning. His insights here only confirm that my decision was the correct one. Weezy for Preezy!!

  2. Casey Lee says:

I agree with the Oden comment. I would not have drafted him as #1. Big men are supposed to dominate…what did he do? If I were the Trailblazers, I’d trade for Marc Gasol!!

  3. PWEEZY says:

Weezy that’s awesome how he said Ariza is awesome on NBA 2K9

  4. Junio says:

“He’s excellent on NBA 2K9, too.”

you gotta be f***ing kidding me.

  5. control says:

Damn this guy is a name dropper.

“I was taking a shit when Lebron texted me, asked me what it smelled like”, “I was rolling around with my krew when I hit Lil’ Jon on the 2way, he said ‘yea!’”, “I was shopping in the lil kids section at Macys when a Chris Paul look-a-like bought me a Lions jersy, it was dope.”

  6. Kermit the Washington says:

He was probably joking when he made the 2k9 comment, dag fellas…

but he’s right about Ariza. That dude is nice. Goooood move by the Lakers to bring him in. He can play a bit of D too.

As far as Oden, he didn’t completely write him off, he just said “he’s gotta show me something”. He’s right on that, too…in the few times I’ve seen him with the ball and he’s supposedly healthy, he did NOTHING GOOD. He threw up an UGLY baby hook that looked mad uncomfortable, got blocked a couple times, lost handle of the ball, and then crumpled under his own weight when fighting for the ball (Bynum was reaching over his back, for sure, but he didn’t literally JUMP on his back, the way Oden’s body reacted). So we wait again…until then, BUST.

  7. YOUNGFED says:

Why when I was reading it I kept doing the weezy voice. He was on point though.

  8. Dennis Castro says:

Weezy F Baby, please save the…opinions for someone that actually gives a ish.

  9. JDigiac says:

    @ Dime…

HOLD UP. You guys gotta be kidding me, if you read his blog from like 3 weeks ago during the ALCS and NLCS, he goes back and forth about who’s gonna win the world series and giving different scenarios of whos gonna win and why, dropping the most obvious of reasons “home field” and “emotion”… while I love Weezy’s music, his actual knowledge on sports is questionable at best. You can tell he watches the games and knows the players, but his blog is weak.

  10. Kermit the Washington says:

    HAHAHA LOL @ Dennis

  11. GEE...Put a B-Ball Court on the White House says:

I will neva, I will neva, I will neva fall!

I like what Weezy laid down.

  12. A-Slam says:

Lil wayne just calls oden a bust cause he’s too small to even play in a junior high pick up game. them 8th graders would be givin him the business

  13. karizmatic says:

I pretty much agree with all these sentiments I’ve been leaning toward calling Oden what he is which is another Sam Bowie for Portland and the Lakers very well could win more than 66 games this year if they stay healthy. They are playing top notch ball right now. Trevor Ariza was a good trade for the Lakers I liked it back then, and he is good on 2k9 particularly on defense I can’t really find the jumper with him yet though. And I’d rather run Marbury for the Knicks than bench him even if he is a distraction aren’t coaches supposed to put the best players out on the floor? What does it matter about whether he’s in their long term plans.

  14. Kermit the Washington says:

Whoa, easy there…Marbury made his bed on the bench, now he’s gotta sit in it. Or something like that…

  15. tim says:

    Weezy is a bust too.

  16. A-Slam says:

i’m pretty well tired of everyone always jizzing in the proverbial mouth of the lakers craze, i’m honestly getting sick of it. Especially the Bynum craze, in my oppinion he’s the real bust. And yeah, Kobe may be more of a team mate now. But wait until they go on a slump, he’ll start becoming the arrogant immature kid he has been since he came into the league. Oh, and, he’s not Jordan. Period. Jordan never would have blamed poor shooting on the fact that the league allows zone defense now.

  17. The Real Tyrone says:

that cats got some noledge mayn, iLl have him beatin me like a cop all dai

    True Thugz Dont Lie
    Tyrone

  18. Aron says:

    @Kermit the Washington
I agree. Ariza is mad underated in the L.

    @JDigiac
I was talking primarily about ball, which if you read, he’s pretty on point.

    @A-Slam
That’s hilarious. But if he played on a No Limit 3-on-3 team with Master P and Lil Romeo they’d be nice.

  19. Sweet Jones says:

for this first time since “bring it back” i’m actually liking what i hear from weezy. he’s back in my good graces, at least until he starts weezing on another track.

greg oden is doo-doo. u can’t off. rebound and dunk on grown men trying to feed their families like u did against those 6-3 high school centers in indiana.

  20. P_Dizzle says:

LOL at Weezy. Why the hell do I care what he thinks about sports and the NBA?

By reading his blog it seems like all he is doing is giving shout outs to all these people he met. Shout out to the Jerome Bettis, I saw him at the Vegas airport last week. I never talked to him but I saw him walk by. Shout out to Nancy at the grocery store for ringing me up, and I got a text from my brother Mark yesterday so a shout out to him as well.

Oh by the way, I got a tv in my family room and one in my bedroom. I have 2 monitors at work and one at home. I don’t watch any tv on those. They are hooked up to the internet so I can get updates on the games that aren’t regionalized.

And last, I am a bandwagon fan. I only support teams that are winning or are in the hunt for a ‘chip. There is no loyalty with me, just win and I am on your bandwagon. If you’re hot right now then I am all about giving you a shot out.

    But I am a fan.

  21. weezy f says:

    greatest rapper of allt ime

  22. Ross says:

This guy has a column in ESPN The Mag? I’ve never seen it, or I guess its one of those pointless sections (like NASCAR) that I always skip.
Anyways, this guy doesn’t know shit. Its way too early to make that call.

  23. dagwaller says:

I’ve been up and down on Wayne as a rapper, but this alone makes me a bit more of a fan.

  24. doc says:

He disrespected his own city (NO) for the Lakers. We dont play that in Philly.

  25. Dennis Castro says:

Doc, I wish we didn’t play his music period in our city.

  26. dapro says:

Most over-rated rapper out right now and this is coming from someone who actually listens to him

  27. JDigiac says:

    @ Aron..

I see what you mean, but at the same time its almost like hes stating obvious opinions. We all know Oden is LOOKING like a bust. We all know Lakers are best in the West. I’m waiting to see what he’s got to say in his next blog bout my Phillies ( the only team in the final 4, that he didnt give a chance) winning the World Series… His blog’s interesting and i love Weezy as a rapper, but that’s mainly why I read the blog, I just take it for what it’s worth. You guys are the one’s whos opinions I respect, and make me think.

  28. dapro says:

I would rather have a celebrity who has a vested interest in the leauge blog it up and get their take on the games and season

  29. E$ says:

Does Oden throw out his Carter III cd now? lol

  30. RENO says:

    Wayne….. GTFOH!

  31. JDigiac says:

    @E$….

I was thinking that too… Like Oden’s my age.. he probably loves Weezy and if he reads/hears bout this he’s probably gonna be like WTF man? Then when he turns out to be as good as advertised, Weezy will give him a shout out saying G.O. hit him up on the 2 way asking what he thinks now

  32. got them..SCOOBY DO's says:

    Freakin ridiculous Gus….

It’s too early to predict anything about ODEN…He needs to get his mind right….he try’s to hard…forcing the issue….let the game come to him…keeping working on getting a post up game, turn around…5-10 ft shot? Otherwise, concentrate on playing D, get his 5-8 dunks a game, working his FreeThrows, Gus

He’s a freakin BigFoot, is what he is! It’s bigfoot in a Portland T-Blazer uniform……I like him though…

  33. Aron says:

    @E$ and JDigiac.
I don’t know. When I met him when he was a high school senior at the McD’s game, his ringtone was “Seasons of Love” from Rent…

  34. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

Weezy claims to be the best rapper alive, which may or may not be true depending on what you like. But best rapper of all time has to be 2PAC, don’t get it twisted, dude was a beast on the mic.

  35. Abe504 says:

Don’t listen to this muppet, he don’t know nata bout nothin, he should be refunding everybody for that horrible carter 3 cd.

  36. GEE...Put a B-Ball Court on the White House says:

Dude already told y’all he being hated on by the seasons, so “F” y’all who hatin for no reason!

His thoughts are better than many so-called “in the know” critics.

  37. Dennis Castro says:

If you think Weezy is the best rapper alive you’re either:

    1) Less than 18 years old
    2) Are drinking the same syrup that Wayne’s drinking
    3) Don’t know real hip hop
    4) Never heard of the following artists:
    a) Common, Black Thought, Kool G, Kane, Canibus,
    Andre 3000, Nas.

While Rakim is alive, he is the greatest rapper alive. When he’s not, he will be the greatest rapper, PERIOD.

  38. doc says:

I think Nas is the best rapper alive.Cant nobody else see him.

  39. JDigiac says:

    @ Aron…

Man, I can only hope that was for that girl with the pink skirt pulled up grindin’ on him. You know what picture I’m talkin bout.

  40. control says:

Eminem is the best rapper alive right now. The lil midget name dropping fagget Wayne isn’t fit to drink his jizz.

There are a good 10-12 rappers out right now that are better than this guy. I heard one of his songs in which he was saying if you are talking about Jay-Z and 2Pac, you should be talking about him as well…what fucking bullshit.

  41. doc says:

Em is crazy with the flow-in a trailer park whiteboy kind of way.

  42. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

@ Castro– I never said he was the best rapper alive. I said ” Weezy claims to be the best rapper alive, that may or may not be true depending on what you like”

I did say that 2PAC hand down is the greatest rapper ever! Rakim, NAS, J-Hov, Andre 3000. Come on man ain’t nobody that could put it down like 2PAC. Think about how may rappers could flow like that, talk about real life, not about bling, screamin yeah into the mic, or some other crap.

I do like NAS but TUPAC straight up dude was on another level.

  43. Dennis Castro says:

Haterade, I know, I was just making that general statement, since a lot of people seem to feel that it is the truth.

  44. J says:

I think leading ohio state to the national championship is showing people something. just cause your a rich fucking pothead doesnt make you knowledgable shut the fuck up

  45. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

Come listen to my truest thoughts, my truest feelings
All my peers doing years beyond drug dealing
How many caskets can we witness
Before we see it’s hard to live
This life without God, so we must ask forgiveness
Ask mama why god deserved to die
Witness the tears falling free from my eyes
    Before she could reply
Though we were born without a silver spoon
My broken down TV, show cartoons in my living room (hey)
One day I hope to make it
    A player in this game
Mama don’t cry, long as we try
    Maybe things change
    Perhaps it’s just a fantasy
A life where we don’t need no welfare
    Shit with our whole family
Maybe it’s me that caused it
    The fighting and the hurting
In my room crying cause I didn’t want to be a burden
Watch mama open up her arms to hug me
And I ain’t worried bout a damn thang, with unconditional love

I like this one, but so many others talk about the stuff that really matters.

  46. Dennis Castro says:

I personally prefer Cormega over Nas, but to each his own…

  47. Lee says:

If only Will Smith would give up his movie career and rap again …..

    BEST RAPPER EVER.

  48. Celts Fan says:

I enjoy the fuck outta Weezy, but dude is NO WHERE NEAR the best rapper of anything. His flow is sick, his beats are nice, his lyrics are pretty fuckin weak sometimes though. Just putting that out there.

I do agree on Trevor Ariza though. I said this last year, but if he’d started instead of Radmanovic that I think we lose the Finals. He’s like a James Posey type and is big (6′8″) HIM being healthy this year (get Radmanovic the fuck outta the rotation!) is just as big as them getting Bynum.

The Lakers didn’t only lose cuz they got pushed around last year, they lost because Phil Jackson somehow believed a 6′10″ uncoordinated piece of EuroTrash (that started out as a PF, so how is he a 3?!) that wasn’t a good defender at all could guard Paul Pierce and deserved a starting spot or that Luke Walton woulda even been offered a tryout to the WNBA if his dad was a plumber.

  49. Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:

@ Celts fan– why you gotta pick on Luke? He’s better than Scalbrinie (however you spell it) at least Luke is intelligent and can pass the ball with accuracy, and he can hit a few shots here and there. You white dud can’t even hit the rim on a lay up.

  50. David Brandon says:

    @ Doc,

i’m rollin w/ my boy nas too….ever since i first heard “nas is like…” its been a wrap.

  51. Reno says:

Lil wayne is one of the most idiotic rappers to come out since will smith. He’s misogynistic, egotistical and ignorant. Bill Cosby would be ashamed of his useless two-bit ass. And since when do one dimensional rappers who have the good authority to judge talent anyways. Greg Oden would OWN his ass any day of the week.

  52. Stepper says:

    @ Reno
Why hate on will smith? lol, I am going to miami and BOOM, great tunes

  53. doc says:

Dam reno with all the Will bashing,he was the shit in 89, u acting like ya whole fam aint bang summertime.I fuck with Mega too its just Nas never dissapointed me.And i was 10 years old and knew illmatic by heart.

  54. Ian says:

who the fuck is lil wayne?

  55. Spoiled says:

NBA – When so many FIRST ( gr8 & worst thing )HAPPENS!!

ODEN – ROY ( Rookie of the YEAR )

And still Rookie for many years to come..
    :D

  56. Aron says:

    @JD
Haha. I have that pic saved on my computer.

  57. Disgruntled Employee says:

You know, people constantly complain that Oden’s not up to par, and frankly, I don’t get it. As a person who hasn’t just watched the Blazers games that were on national TV (I live in Oregon and watch all Portland’s games) I am perfectly happy with Oden’s performance. Is he an all star? No. Is he Shaq? No. Does he have potential to be? Yes. Go watch him in college and see him play when he was comfortable. The guy dominated that shit. Right now he’s a rookie, and he’s scared of the big bad NBA. He’s over thinking sometimes, and he’s underthinking others. But with the most double doubles on the Trail Blazers, I don’t think we can call him Sam Bowie. He’s doing what he needs to. He’s making good blocks. He’s beginning to make more and more shots and almost getting bold enough to develop the range he used to have. So is Oden Sam Bowie? No! Not even close. He’s gonna be good guys, I swear.

  58. Chris says:

oh nice you can leave comments, lil wayne you are a cunt. Take care.

P.S. 24 points and 15 Rebounds for a 20 year old rookie coming off of major injuries, I’d say he’s showing us something.

  59. Tdilla says:

Yo man. Oden ain’t no bust! What, let me guess. You watched the two or three nationaly televised games where he was playin and he didn’t explode off the charts. Whatever. I’ve watched every blazer game this season and he ain’t no bust!
Considering his half a year of college injured, his surgeory forced absence of his first nba season, i’d say his equivolence is that of someone coming out of high school. That being said, compare his per 30 min to any other big man out of highscool, Dwight, Amare…THERERIGHT ON POINT. SO STFU HATERS, listen to som REAL MUSIC like Jdilla, and watched oden when titels.
