Monta Ellis Could Demand a Trade

There have a ton of rumors over the last few weeks concerning potential further drastic punishment that the Warriors could drop on Monta Ellis beyond his 30-game unpaid suspension and the drama the whole situation has caused within the Warriors organization.

What no one has really talked about though, is what Monta might decide to do. Mercury News Warriors expert Tim Kawakami thinks Monta could demand that the Warriors cut him loose:

The real murmurings around the league: If Warriors colossus Robert Rowell isn’t careful, Ellis could eventually decide to make his own judgement.

The real decision to watch: Ellis could decide that he wants nothing more to do with the team, whether they decide to void his contract or not.

If he feels his recovery is coming along, Ellis could say by mid-December: Either void my deal or trade me, your choice, because I’m never playing for a franchise that would do this to me after I admitted my mistake and was ready to accept singular punishment.

That Ellis judgement is a very live possibility.

You’d have to think that there would be several teams lined up to sign Ellis at a discount. He’d be well worth a gamble, right?

WELL WORTH. What teams do you think would be front runners for signing him though? and Pat.. HOW BOUT THEM PHILS?

I hope for his sake that he doesn’t do it. If he decides to demand a trade, if I’m the Warriors front office, I’m voiding his contract and working a sign and trade with any team that wants him.

    @ P-cass

You know it, son. AHHHH it still feels so good. The parade was nuts. IDK if you were there but it was the best day of my life.

  5. Nasty says:

    What gamble?

this kid can flat out play
he would be a welcomed addition to any line up

  6. Dime Magazine says:

    @ JD

I was there for the parade. Unbelievable. You make it into the stadium?

  7. dagwaller says:

Besides, I don’t see why Monta should be upset. Let’s see. Signed a huge contract (that he was apparently happy enough to, yknow, sign). Violated the contract and got injured in a bad way in the process. The team suspended him for just enough time that he can play as soon as he’s well enough. All that, and the only money he’s surrendering is a quarter season’s worth out of a 5 or 6 year contract. Which, again, he DESERVES SINCE HE VIOLATED THE CONTRACT AND HURT HIMSELF IN A WAY THAT MIGHT MAKE HIM A LESSER BASKETBALL PLAYER.

Now, I wasn’t all for his contract getting redone, but it this is really the way he’s going to play it, I really hope that the thing does get terminated.

  8. JDigiac says:

Nah, man. I wish. I skipped classes Wednesday and Thursday to celebrate on Broad St, and called out of work Friday for the parade haha. Couldn’t get on the Patco so I walked the Ben Franklin and got to Broad at 12 on the dot. Gonna remember those 3 days the rest of my life. I did get to catch Chase on TV when i got home, though, World Champions, WORLD F$CKING CHAMPIONS!

  9. tim says:

this season is already turning into the new best season ever…

  10. 2 Easy says:

Heres the thing, Monta is gettin punished as he should for violating his contract but all this talk of extra punishment would sit badly with anyone. Thats like breakin a rule gettin your punishment and then recievin further punishment after you showed ur remorse. I understand Monta’s a grown ass man and doesnt wanna be treated like a little boy so this process may be seen as a little disrepectful. If he does leave the Warriors are more done then people predicted cause Nellie & Mullin will leave and that whole We Believe thing will die so quick only people in GS (& Dallas) will remember it ever happened

  11. kobeef says:

Apparently Monta is appealing the fine. Not something you do if you are prepared to accept responsibility for your actions. Also, appealing the fine can’t help relations with the team. This is not shaping up well

In real news, CNN just reported that Obama is the next president of the USA.

i feel like this kawakami guy is jus talkin nonsense…i feel like he jus makes his own shit up nd runs wit it

  13. doc says:

I believe it when i see it.

  14. sam says:

ellis to and harrington to miami for marion! yeah! if salaries dont match one of miamis myriad sub-par point guards

  15. A$$Cube aka Monta Ellis' not so guilty conscience says:

Monta’s a douch if he does that.

He’s a player. His checks –albeit really, really, really fat & greasy– are cut by his employers, the Warriors, who decided to reward him BIG TIME last summer, when nobody else would have been able to give him that much. Eveng Ben Gordon would have sign up that deal!

Then, Monta played it massively dumb and get injured on a moped, something that was forbidden by the terms of his contract AND that Jay Williams would have kick his butt for –Ben Roethlisberger, not so much.

To make it brief, Monta’s getting paid way to much to get back from an injury he’s totally responsible for AND which put the team –not his, it’s Captain Jack’s– in limbo for the freshly started season, if not the franchise near future.

No wonder Miami fans want Monta on their crew… He’s special too, ahahah!

  16. Kevin says:

    Monta should stay.

  17. big boto says:

Monta would come across as ungrateful if he were to try to leave the warriors. I can understand he might feel like he’s being punished too severely, but c’mon, he violated a specific rule in his contract. It’s not like he endorses pepsi and gets caught drinking coke, this is an injury that could possibly change him as a player (lack of quickness, mobility, whatever)
