Top Five Let-Down’s This Season

Props to reader Ansonious, who proposed the idea of the biggest let-down’s thus far this season on yesterday’s post about the Top Five Surprises. We could start this list off with Greg Oden, but we’ll at least let G.O. get a second game in tonight against the Heat before officially putting him on this list.

* Rashard Lewis - After showing up huge in the preseason against the Celtics, Rashard was supposed to be more comfortable in Orlando. That was supposed to translate to consistency. Well, after putting up four twenty-point games in a row, he’s hit for five points and six points in his last two.

* Andre Iguodala - 11.6 points, 5 boards and 6 assists is not worth $80 million.

* The Oklahoma City Jerseys - It’s so upsetting thinking what this franchise could have been. Call them the “Barons” and have someone who doesn’t work for the WNBA design team sketch them out, and everyone East of the Mississippi would have bought a Durant “Barons” jersey. Instead, they’re the “Thunder,” and their logo looks like something from a line of baby clothing.

* Randy Foye - Foye’s definitely rebounded since his 0-10 game against Oklahoma City, but he’s still nowhere near the fantasy sleeper that some projected he’d be. Though he is passing the ball well now, Foye is still struggling from beyond the arc - he’s shooting 24% 3FG.

* Rafer Alston - What is holding Houston back from being a truly elite team? Is it the fact that Yao’s soft? In part. Is it that T-Mac can’t get really healthy? In part. But perhaps the biggest issue thus far has been the play of Rafer. Listen to these numbers: 8.6 ppg, 29.1% FG, 4.4 apg, 2 tpg. And worst of all, he’s been at his absolute worst when the Rockets have needed him most. He went 1-6 for 3 points against the Mavs, 1-6 for 4 points against the Celtics, and 3-9 (1-5 3FG) for 7 points against the Lakers.

good call on the OKC jerseys and mascot. thunder surely does sound like a WNBA name.

but then again i hate every expansion franchise name. they all just sound so silly until they’ve been around a while.

  2. tbone says:

    rashard is a scam.

i didnt want to say it… i still dont think its true in my heart.. but hedo is the better baller at this point. dudes should switch salaries.

hedo is a machine on the magic team… he’s aggressive and is in control. rashard doesnt know what to do and seems lost. f’d up my fantasy team b/c i believed in rashard.. i hope he can prove me wrong.

Amen on Iguadola. The guy straight just scammed the city of brotherly love.

If I lived in Philly, I would be pissed. You guys are stuck with him for the length of his contract. That’s a sad story.

  6. Dank says:

…you cant really LISTEN to numbers

lol sorry dont mean to be a smartass…

  7. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

Honorable mention: Having to wait until next year to see if Danilo Gallinari was worth the 6th pick.

  8. Spliff 2 My Lou says:

    @Dank
You can listen to numbers if somebody is telling them to you. Sorry I don’t mean to be a smart ass.

  9. BEdger says:

can someone tell me why Houston hasn’t given the PG job to Aaron Brooks yet?

  10. rangerjohn says:

SPURS!!! biggest let down to date. form parkers ankle, to manus “time out” to pops beard, to the bench, just one big letdown.

  11. Gerard says:

Spurs and Tracy McGrady. Houston needs to shut him down for a month and let him heal instead of playing 4-on-5 on defense every trip down the floor.

  12. NYC Streetball says:

Leave my man Rafer alone!! He’ll step his game up in due time…just some early season jitters…wait til the team chemistry comes back like last season!!

  13. rkraicek says:

how about just an entire section on the big free agents of this past offseason. gilbert and antawn. iggy. camby (kinda, not really a FA but still). josh smith is about the only guy i can think of that’s done anything. brand. maggette. boom. ellis. bunch of bums got paid and now they shit. i never want to hear anyone, fan or player, complain about not getting paid on time after the way a bunch of these guys underperform.

    2 words - Moped Ellis
The guy is so forgotten at this point that you forgot about him.

    2 more words- Greg Oden
The guy is single handedly making the blazers think there is something to the portland big man curse.

  15. Magnifico says:

Where’s Oden’s injury here? Anyways, Rashard Lewis is not worth the money. Looks like Hedo will be fielding a lot more offers from other teams when his time comes.

Apologies to T-Mac, but there’s seems to be always a yearly period of letdown involving him and some injuries. Imagine if him and Vince are still in Toronto and both of them are doing their injury bug thing. It would kill the fans no doubt. Can T-Mac do a comeback from injury a-la D-Wade? We need his explosiveness back.
