NBA Match Game, 11.10
Vince Carter (photo. Mannion)Three matchups to watch on Monday’s NBA schedule…
Toronto @ Boston: Chris Bosh vs. Kevin Garnett
Offensively, Bosh is the best power forward in the East. Defensively, KG gets the title. Something’s gotta give tonight. If the Raps want to make a realistic run at the Atlantic Division crown, they need to show they can beat Boston head-to-head.
(NBA League Pass, 7:30 p.m. EST)
Portland @ Orlando: LaMarcus Aldridge vs. Rashard Lewis
Aldridge can dominate in the paint when he wants to, but too often he plays like a small forward trapped in a power forward’s body. Rashard, meanwhile, is stuck playing power forward when he’s really a three. Expect a lot of perimeter work from these two, allowing Dwight Howard and Joel Przybilla to fight over rebounds.
(NBA TV, 7 p.m. EST)
New Jersey @ Miami: Vince Carter vs. Dwyane Wade
If Vince is settling for jumpers, at least he’s knocking them down (47% FG’s). He lit up the Pacers for 31 points his last time out, and with Devin Harris (ankle) expected to miss tonight’s game, VC will get more than his share of opportunities to score. Wade will make him work on both ends, though, as he’s been causing havoc defensively (2.6 steals) and attacking the basket like the Flash we all know and love, to the tune of 26.2 points and 11 free throw attempts per game.

Vince getting more than his share of opportunities to score is kind of a redundant phrase, isn’t it?

So far this year he is. The only thing KG clearly has over Bosh is passing.

Big Shot BOB says:
Chris Bosh the best offensive forward in the east. I don’t even think he’s the second best. It goes KG then Bosh / Josh Smith.

Big T says:
Pfft, Bosh is way better at getting buckets than KG. KG settles WAY too much with perimeter jumpers.

Big shot, do a little research and use a little common sense. Josh Smith and KG are averaging 12 and 14.6 ppg each, while Bosh is averaging 26.7. So if you COMBINED your two “best” offensive forwards, you’d almost get Bosh.
Beyond that, Josh Smith might be an athletic player, but to say that he has much of an offensive game is debatable at best. I’m guessing that if Smith is averaging 12 ppg, he’s averaging 6 dunks per game.

Nora says:
KG is also on a team with 2 other players that have great offensive games. KG is not a ball hog and does not have to do as much for his team to succeed. Celtics are 6-1 with KG playing that way. If KG was surrounded with lesser players then Bosh has he would be scoring at a higher clip as well.

Vince is going to get carpal tunnel chucking up shot after shot once he realizes the Heat aren’t going to let the rest of his team score. 9-28, calling it here.

Didn’t Toronto beat the Celtics once last year? They are going to have to more then beat the Celtics once.

Good point, Nora. So I guess that you’re saying that KG’s career numbers are inflated because he had an inferior supporting cast? I hadn’t thought about it that way, thank you, you’re right.
