It appears the Pistons are still looking to shake things up. According to Marc Spears from the Boston Globe, NBA sources said the Nuggets have inquired about obtaining Denver native Chauncey Billups from the Pistons for Allen Iverson.
Last week we talked about the proposed Stephen Jackson-for-Tayshaun Prince deal that, as deals often do, hinges on money. It appears this is also the case for Iverson and Billups. Because of Iverson’s lucrative $20.8 million contract, it would take more than Billups’ $11 million salary to get it done.
Would you make this deal?

This is a PR move in Denver as much as anything… Chauncy is a local boy. Plus, he’d let Melo take the reins and get his 30 a night.
AI in Detroit seems like a strange match though.

Great deal for Denver. Move JR Smith into that starting lineup and suddenly you have one of the most talented perimeter crews in the league. Improves them hugely.
For Detroit? Not so much no.

Denver gets:
A strong one on one defender who’s as clutch as just about anyone in the league, is a tremendous facilitator who can get his shots almost whenever he wants and makes $11 million/year.
Detroit gets:
A 2 in a 1’s body who can also play the 1 effectively. Not as strong of an on the ball defender but is really good in the passing lanes. Could easily go for 30 on any given night but would need to play point and facilitate more then looking for his own shot. Makes $20 million/year.
Yeah if Denver can make this happen and they don’t then they’re trippin off something real strong

I think this move would be advantageous to Denver. Billups is a better fit than AI and is a pass-first point guard that would better play off Melo’ strengths.

If Detroit was going to get rid of Billups, I’d assume they’d get someone in return that isn’t going to take Stuckey’s minutes. Someone like a C.
The way they talk about Stuckey, it seems as though he’s slated as the next one on that team and you know AI’s still good for 40 mins a night.

For Denver: this is a great move. They get a legit point guard who is playoff proven…
For Detroit: this is a just a trade for sake of making a trade. They don’t really get an upgrade here. In fact, although AI is GREAT, he’s not the point guard to run the system. Who is going to feel Rip the ball off his curl routes? Not AI.
In short: Good for Denver. OK at best for Detroit.

Denver gets a strong point and a great decision-maker with high durability to finally give some leadership at the 1. They lose a strong scorer but Billups can bring the best from J.R. Smith. The Pistons are left without a true PG (no, Stuckey isn’t one yet). So if I’m Denver I jump at this if I can make it work.

putting A.I. with Detroit will actually help hide alot of his defensive weakness. This also gives the Pistons an extra scoring punch. This could actually work. A.I. and Sheed would be so nasty!

I think both teams would work out. Detroit aint winning a chip with this squad and AI could possibly take them farther. I don’t think it would be a total shaq for marion and close the pistons championship window. Also I think AI’s salary comes off the cap after this yr, so that would be 20mill to throw at free agents if it don’t work

i think most ya’ll forget that dumars likes a.i. enough to try and strongly trade for him in 2001 wc was screwed by sixers center geiger i think.
everyone talks about how a.i. cant pass the rock, yall forgetting that though he might not be chris paul or steve nash, he puts up decent assists and points ala baron davis.
plus the guy’s a warrior with a lot of heart. that’s what the pistons need right now, character.

NO WAY IN HELL!! Does anyone really think that a rookie coach who is trying to instill an environment of accountability with a talented veteran core, while trying to also incorporate a youth movement, would be able to, or even want to, deal with a “superstar” veteran like AI? MC and Joe D are DEFINITELY not having this…
If anyone should get AI, it should be Charlotte. Reunited with LB (lol)

Im going to say the same thing I said in the other post (but shorter, lol)..the Nuggets don’t deserve Billups, the same way they didn’t deserve Iverson. Although I think the Pistons would be a nice for Iverson, I feel like Billups is perfect in Detroit and going to the Nuggets would mess up his swagger.
@ Kdog
Stop hatin’ already. Iverson is still playing at the top of his game (27 ppg 7 asst last season) and actually plays a lot smarter and more controlled then when he did years ago. I can see Iverson retiring close to how he’s playing now. You sir are out of line. Do everyone a favor and STFU

I think if Detroit does all the trades that are rumored for them, then they’d be a team to watch not only for talent but the explosive things that could happen off the court. What if. (Since we are just talking about hypotheticals) Detroit got a 3 team trade done with Golden State and Denver, where they got Stephen Jackson, AI, and Al Harrington? Obviously they’d give up Billups, Prince, and either Wallace or Rip. How does that sound? I’d advocate this trade just for entertainment purposes.

Kudabeen says:
Iverson is being under-valued…people say things like, “he is great, but he can’t or he is not…”
That’s lame. Put him on a team of veterans that know where to be and he’ll make things happen. He has done it with less. Being on Detroit would be great for him. How hard is it to find Rip off the pick, Sheed perched behind the 3, and Tayshaun ‘terodactyle’ Prince slashing or popping out? Not hard at all. Iverson can play 30-35 minutes on a great team. Stuckey wouldn’t loose too much. Aaron Afflalo is the one that would be hurt…
I still don’t see Dumars doing it…Billups has been a model citizen and a great team guy. Unless they struggle to score or make plays the Pistons will stay put. They would have to give up Billups and another important piece like McDyees and lesser piece like Kwame or Amir.
