Sean Williams On The Trading Block

Sean WilliamsWho wants me?

For teams in need of an explosive shot blocker, word out of New Jersey is that Sean Williams is available. Although GM Kiki Vandeweghe and Coach Lawrence Frank have claimed Williams is a vital piece in the Nets’ rebuilding process, the proof is in the pudding.

To date, Williams has played only 25 minutes of garbage time and appeared in three games, opposed to averaging 17.5 minutes a night in 73 games (29 starts) a season ago.

At the end of the day, troubled or not, the kid can play. During the 2006-07 season at Boston College, Williams established himself as the nation’s top shot blocker by breaking his own record when he blocked 75 shots in only 15 games.

What team would be a good fit for Williams?

I’m guessing Pat Riley is on the phone with Kiki right now.

  2. N-Truh-Kit says:

i wish he had an offensive game. i’d love to see him in a Bulls uniform but we already have Joakim Noah and Tyrus. he’ll be a good pickup for whoever trades for him though, can’t have enough serviceable big men with his energy and defensive prowess

  3. Big Shot BOB says:

I say we’ll take him in GS. We could always get bigger and a 7 ft shot blocker couldn’t hurt.

  4. Shogun says:

Timberwolves! They are in desperate need of a shotblocking center to erase Jefferson’s and Love’s defensive mistakes.

  5. mellamoernest says:

I would love to see him on the Timberwolves next to Al Jefferson. Al can take care of the offense while Sean plays defense.

  6. Kudabeen says:

The Knicks – he could be the athlete with size to protect the rim better than what they have…

Houston could trade one of their sub 6′8″ forwards for him and get something out of him.

  7. Yoooo says:

That’s so dumb man. The Nets are gonna regret that one. I know they have a logjam of 4’s with Yi and Andersen and Boone. But NONE of them can play D much less defend a 5 (well I guess Boone can). But Williams can be for them what Perkins is to Boston in terms of toughness and size. You need guys like Sean around cuz he’s a defensive game changer. Him and Brook could work well together. like the opposite of Eddy Curry and ZBO

  8. Peter Robert Casey says:

    Team Flight Brothers.

  9. Max says:

@BOB: I’ve casually watched a few Warriors games this year, and doesn’t Nellie already have enough offensively challenged tall guys with Randolph and Wright? I know Williams is at another level with the shot blocking, but I wonder if he’s Nellie’s kind of ball player.

The Knicks might be a better fit given how atrocious their interior defense is, but like Nellie, D’Antoni likes bigs with some modicum of offensive ability.

  10. Jaosn says:

The SPURS – we could really use his athleticism next to Tim Duncan!

  11. Ashlov says:

The Heat are definitely going to call about Williams. He’s 6′10″, 235 and just what we’re looking for. As much as Wade, Chalmers, and Marion like to gamble on steals, he’d clean up any mistakes. Do it. Do it. Do it.

  12. Reverend Paul Revere says:

Have you seen this kid play when he’s motivated? Any team would be a good fit. Who doesn’t want an athletic shot blocker who showed some small signs of offense last year?

  13. s.bucketz says:

hey hey hey heyy…smoke weed evryday
the knicks gota get him but yea the pringles can man woodn’t let him get n e burn

  14. Big Sia says:

    WE’RE KEEPING HIM

    FUCK OUTTA HERE

  15. dmitry of jersey says:

man the Nets … if we trade him i’m going to personally punch Lawrence Frank in the face. is there a worse coach in the L for developing young players? what the hell is the point of rebuilding when you replace talented young Centers without giving them a fair chance? this is beyond dumb for the Nets.

  16. laballer says:

at least u still got carter…LOL

  17. webbie352 says:

please send him to the heat. we could really use some height.

  18. Bron42 AkA Your Moms Best Friend says:

magic need to make a call

  19. JR says:

he can be backup centre in houston… imagine him paired up with landry, or even hayes, they’d make a damn fine frontcourt from a defensive standpoint.

  20. GEE...always smell it and look at it first! says:

HIS FACIAL EXPRESSION SAYS IT ALL! Mutha@#() please! Crackin me up!

  21. nick says:

be a nice fit on the raptors. however would get good anywhere.

  22. the rocket cat says:

If the Raptors do what I say and play three bigs at a time (see my comment on the Bargnani clip from yesterday), then we could use some more bigs. I think we’re the sort of team that could absorb a troubled player and turn him around, providing a solid environment with some veteran leadership.

  23. loganlight says:

    MIAMI BETTER BE CALLING!!

This is the type of deal that I would ok with seeing Matrix shipped out for. Make it happen.

  24. JCARR says:

His face says it all!!! haha great pic to go with the title of the article. He would benefit with the Thunder the most… they have no real talent other than Durant and Green.

  25. AY says:

this guy is so overrated; he goes for the block instead of playing his man, he’d only work for a team that has a good post-defender but needs a weakside help defender whose only contribution on offense is off the oreb putback. Don’t say he can be perkins, perkins plays the post with great position d. Hasn’t the stromile swift experiment been tried and failed already?

  26. doc says:

It look like his hairline already got traded.

  27. Timmy D says:

Grizzlies!! Put him next to Marc Gasol and rotate with Darrell Arthur, it would be a great defensive rotation.

  28. Lady Luck says:

Maybe Atlanta. Or Dallas. Either could use a big man.

  29. Skywalker says:

rumor has it that Bobcats have thought Carroll for Williams plus another

good trade for Bobcats they need a big man badly

  30. weng santos says:

Denver. There. all he has to do is block shots and fly for alley-oops, which is easy for him with his hops and timing.

But in keeping with my “go to the Spurs” philosophy, get him, ‘Dyess, and Starbury on the Spurs. Williams can start with Duncan, and they could bring Oberto and ‘Dyess off the bench. And let Starbury play the 2 as a starter, bring Fin to sub for Bown, Manu is still the bench assasin, and Parker and Starbury could rotate in a very flexible backcourt.

    That’s a bad-ass 8-man roatation right there.

  31. the scola says:

Sean Wills knows where the kush is at.
