Stephen Curry & Blake Griffin Put On A Show

We told you this morning to watch out for the Stephen Curry tonight and that “a big night for him against OU could go a long way with NBA scouts.”

How about a career high 44 points? Not bad.

As for Blake Griffin, he posted a ridiculous 25 points and 21 boards (on only 11 shots) and pulled out the W.

As a defender/team, how do you even try to stop Curry or Griffin?

    Was this game on ESPN?
Wow. Impressive on the amount of points by curry. Did he do anything else? (assists, boards, etc.)
Griffin just started hearing about this guy. Damn good line he had.
You really cant stop them they are men amongst boys. You have to try to stop everyone else. And hope thats enough.

    First

For Steph Curry, assuming he is the off-guard, you have to have your best defender deny him the ball. Of course, he is gonna run off a million screens, but the person who is guarding the screener has to bump Steph, and stay on him, until the person who is guarding him can recover. It takes a LOT of effort/hustle and team coordination and movement, but it can be done.

As for Griffin, you need to deny him the ball. If he gets the ball (which he will) you need to double team INSTANTLY. If he kicks it out, you just gotta hustle to recover. Again, lots of effort. Hope you didn’t cheat on those suicides/wind sprints in the off-season!
Also, you could try fronting him. If they throw it over the top, the person on the opposit block has to be there to knock the pass away. However, if a shot goes up, Griffin would be in perfect rebounding position.
When OU shoots the ball, all five defenders must rebound. Whoever is boxing out Griffin has to focus on keeping him away from the ball as opposed to focusing on securing the rebound.

    Wow, easier said than done.

I dont know how you stop Griffin from rebounding. He is so much stronger than anyone out there and just gets position wherever he wants. He plays a lot like Carlos Boozer but I think he is actually more athletic and quicker. He’s a bad free throw shooter so I guess you gotta send him to the line and stop him from getting and ones. But most team are going to struggle with him unless they have a NBA level big man on their team to guard him, even then Im not sure.

i better hear about farmar’s block just now in tomorrow’s dime

  7. Timmy D says:

Actually I just saw he shot 11-12 from the line so I guess there goes that theory. Well I guess he fixed his free throw shooting so now there’s no stopping him.

  8. isotope says:

Put a bigger guy on Curry and make him sweat when he’s playing D.

  9. Duke says:

Put Bruce Bowen on them and hopes he takes one of them out.

    NOT EASILY.

man im not sure how… curry, did you see some of the shots he was hitting… and griffin is just a beast… you would have to double griffin in the post and curry you probably have to try to force him to the baseline and trap him… you cant defend either of them one on one… 44 points on an off night… can the rockets borrow him till tmac gets somewhat healthy

    Curry/Griffin 09–change gon come

  15. justice says:

off the ball u can’t let curry get it deny the lanes…on the ball play him literally full court and try to force him into help, a bigger more physical defender would be the best thing…griffin no answer just hope u can stop his teammates

  16. The Boss says:

Is Curry big enough to dominate in the pros?

  17. Wildes says:

you can’t stop curry. He’s Reggie Miller - but he can dribble and drive. Maybe put a bigger guy on him and just body him all day. That and give him the Shaq-Stuckey treatment when he goes to the hole. He’s fearless now.

  18. Jeffrey says:

Man up on both of them and guard them tighter than kayne’s pants. put your hands all over them to at least stop them and frustrate them.

  19. Diggy says:

Great game! Curry and Griffin put on a show!

  20. rudderband man says:

There is no stopping Curry. He will lead the nation in scoring this year by a very large margin. You can’t stop someone who’s range begins as soon as he enters the zip code of the gym he’s playing in. Lucky for the rest of the NCAA he’s the only player Davidson’s got or there would be some teams in trouble this year, starting with OU. Oh, and Griffin is just a man amongst boys and will eventually be an NBA All-Star.

  21. Mike says:

He actually had a bad shooting night..

  22. dano says:

it’s hard to stop Curry because he’s Davidson’s point now (9 assists), so if you want to deny him the ball, you better pick up full court. Like what was stated earlier its that lucky for the rest of the NCAA that Davidson doesnt have anyone else nearly as talented as Curry, so i suggested maybe a box and one on him, so hes at least doubled wherever he goes. or you could dirk nowitizki d him and just put a long, athletic wingman on him that could challenge his jumper and try and stay in front of him on drives.
Griffin is just a man. i would say on the boards, have it be one guy’s job to box him out, dont even have that man go for the rebound, just tell him to try his hardest to get griffin out of the lane. on defense, double him as soon as he gets the ball in the post, and on the perimeter put an athletic three on him that can stay in front.
other than that, hope both get in foul trouble or have off nights. or both.
