Stephen Curry Is Human

Stephen CurryStephen Curry (photo. Davidson)

After Stephen Curry’s career high 44 point outing last week, I posed the following question: “As a defender/team, how do you even try to stop Curry?” While the question has been on opposing coaches’ minds for the past six months, it appears Coach Jimmy Patsos is the next great basketball architect.

Although No. 25 Davidson destryoed Loyola (MD) by 30, the Greyhounds were able to hold the nation’s leading scorer to ZERO points in 32 minutes. Yes, you read that correctly. Not only did Curry not score, he only took three shots in the entire game.

Without a doubt, Patsos’ e-mail inbox is already full of requests from coaches around the NCAA asking for the game tape. If I had to guess, that tape will be bootlegged more than the next Harry Potter film.

Has Patsos uncovered the secret, or will Curry bounce back next game?

bounce back… the kid took only THREE shots. And they beat them by 30, so no need to score, he prob. got like 10 minutes of playing time

    @Dime’s DOC
Andrey Blatche (wizards) was a BEAST!!!

  3. that's whats up says:

All they did was talk about how fine his momma is

that throws any kid off his game

..and she is fine as hell…..

    milf

    @JCARR
“ZERO points in 32 minutes.” That’s a feat. As for AB, was working on the post when you wrote that. Good lookin’ out.

  6. fallinup says:

Not much to watch with that game tape. Just put two guys on Curry for the entire game. Yeah, you lose by 30…but he doesn’t score. Brilliant!

  7. dano says:

are you guys serious? he only took three shots and they won by 30. i bet the three shots he took were just so he had a few attempts everyone didnt shit their pants even more. maybe when they play a decent team he might need to show up to play.

  8. 1SKILLZ says:

No coach is calling up Jimmy Patsos. He’s an idiot. He put two guys on Stephen Curry ALL GAME LONG. He left his already undersized team a 4-3 disadvantage, and that’s why he lost by 30 points. Then he has the nerve to say “what are we going to be remembered for, holding an NBA player scoreless or losing by 30?” He’s right, but he’s stupid for not TRYING TO WIN THE GAME.

  9. 1SKILLZ says:

Let me make myself clear… Stephen Curry is human, but he’s still the man. The question should be, who else in the NCAA commands a 40 minute, off-ball double-team?

  10. dagood says:

The story here is that Curry showed he was intelligent - he didn’t force shots to get his points total up against the double teams, since there was always a man wide open. This is meant to be a team game after all…

  11. Phileus says:

    Are you joking?

The team lost by THIRTY POINTS. This is not a special achievement. This is not a smart strategy. Why even mention it?

Like someone already said, it’s a team game. People love NBA players who “do what it takes to win” and are unselfish, as long as they get the W. Didn’t Curry just do exactly that?

  12. Jay says:

You guys are kidding right? Did you guys watch the game or just reporting from box scores?

The idiot coach at Loyola College stuck 2 guys on Curry THE ENTIRE TIME HE WAS ON THE FLOOR. It was basically a box and 2. Yeah, I guess playing 2 on 1 is a good way to shut down one guy. Curry did the right thing and basically stood there most of the game and let his teammates do their things. Any smart player would have scored 0 points and trusted his teammates to take on the mismatch.

Hey maybe the shitty teams in the NBA should adopt this strategy when they face Kobe or LeBron. Theyre going to end up losing anyway, might as well “shut down” the superstar and let the other dudes score 20 a piece to get blown out the water.

LOL @ “Coach Jimmy Patsos is the next great basketball architect.” WOW.

  13. BUDZ says:

    stupid post.

    the next great basketball architect?!

you strategize to win, not to hold someone scoreless and lose by 30.

now we know what type of coaches ARON admires.

    tsk tsk.

  14. bullet380 says:

    @ Jay

I think you meant to say “triangle and 2″; not box and 2. That means there were six guys out there. Maybe the next coach Curry goes up against will try 6 guys. Davidson still might win though. LOL

  15. TJ says:

I think the fact that the opposing coach was too damn scared of Curry to even try to play normal basketball shows that he’s superhuman.

Patsos thought he had a better chance to win by playing 4-on-3 than letting Curry touch the ball. Thats a load statement about how good he is.

  16. itsakademiks says:

they ran a triangle and 2 all game not much to scout…

  17. karizmatic says:

Curry will bounce back, dude had a double team on him the whole game whether or not he had the ball, and they lost by 30, who’s going to want to try that?

  18. Tbone says:

Dime, is there any way I could beg you or pay you to STOP DOING ‘READ MORE’ LINKS for anything LESS THAN AT LEAST TWO PARAGRAPHS?????

Is there really anybody who thinks this is a good idea?

    PLEASE STOP, I’ll do anything

  19. bball_at_da_WhiteHouse says:

you better stop criticizing the moderator or you’ll get blocked from “talking smack” which used to be the best feature of dimemag. Here’s how to get around it when they block you…either change your submission name and/or ip address (switch connection on laptop)…..then you’ll be back committing bad behavior….It’s called DIME they have a 10 cent IT budget….

  20. Jay says:

    Good looks bullet, my mistake.

And good job by Dime trying to post up tons of stuff on the site early to try and bury this post.

I actually sugguest yall delete it completely so there’s no record of it at all.

  21. ThatGrrl says:

Patsos? A genius? Are you effing kidding me?

Curry is the genius. Once he realized he could lure 2 of the other team’s players to the far corner and keep them there, he did it. He’s one of the most unselfish, intelligent players around. He’s not playing for his stupid box score. He’s playing for a team. Patsos could learn something about pride in helping your team win, from Curry. Patsos played to lose, when he realized his strategy wasn’t working and he didn’t adjust. I wouldn’t trust a guy like that to coach 5-year olds.

  22. Jordan says:

Aron Phillips you are the second dumbest man alive, after Jimmy Patsos. I mean, is this article a joke? It has to be, you cannot possibly really believe that Patsos did the right thing. Did you even watch the effing game? Curry wasn’t even trying to score, and you sit there and act like Loyola found the magic formula for stopping him. I just can’t fathom the level of stupidity you just displayed. Seriously, stop writing, you are an idiot. It was an interesting idea at first, but once it was clear that it wasn’t working Patsos should have changed it up; but no, he stubbornly stuck to his guns and basically sent the message that stopping Curry was more important than the win. Unbelievable. And Aron, you do not deserve to call yourself a reporter, dipshit.

  23. Swimdude says:

I hope this article is a joke. Once he realized what was happening, Curry stood in a corner and let his team play 4 on 3. Curry probably could’ve still scored all over them, but instead, he let his team play with an obvious advantage. Patsos was getting booed off of Belk Arena after the game.
