Tayshaun Prince To Play Point

Tayshaun PrinceLe Petit Prince

You knew the point guard transition was going to be rocky in Detroit after the Pistons traded away their NBA Finals MVP Chauncey Billups. But even with a new No. 1 in town, coach Michael Curry had to make some modifications.

It appears one of those adjustments is having Tayshaun Prince initiate the offense; playing the role of point forward while AI and Rip work the wings.

“Tay is going to facilitate some of our offense,” Curry said after the Pistons’ two-hour practice at Arco Arena Monday. “He will get into it with Allen handing it off to Tay. And there are other sets that Tay will start himself.”

In their last three games, Prince has averaged 23 points per contest. Will the additional ball-handling responsibilities slow him down?

  1. Ace says:

it does not make any sense to start him at point guard. he isn’t the playmaker that they need

  2. vinny says:

is this until AI knows the offense, THEN IT MAKES SENSE? man who to pass to AI or Rip?

  3. Scott says:

With Stuckey out, this is easily the best decision that could’ve been made. You have 2 guys who work best when they’re not initiating the offense in AI and Rip, and a guy with a high basketball IQ in Prince, so why not? Makes enough sense to me.

  4. Tom says:

Tay is athletic enough to pull this off for now but this cannot be a long term fix.

  5. Ian says:

it worked with pippen grant hill and magic (6′9 300 pounds thats no pg)

  6. johnny says:

    Tay can do it. End.

  7. heartbreaker85 says:

TP always looked like one of those smart role players to me (never an all star), with the way the pistons are constructed now (two scorers ai and rip), all they need is someone (TP) to pass the ball to once they bring the ball down halfcourt, and then to have that same guy (TP) pass it back to either one of ai and/or rip.

  8. Ashlov says:

    Damn, he looks hungry.

  9. Ashlov says:

And I don’t mean ambitious. Literally, the man looks like he’s starving.

  10. Aron says:

    Haha.

  11. doc says:

hahaha,How long that AI at the 1 BS last,2 games. They couldnt tellfrom the other 12 years the motherfucker is a jack artist.Tay is not Scottie Pip or Bron so hellno this wont work.

  12. Peter Robert Casey says:

Pippen was more adequate to run the point than Prince. Prince’s handle is rather loose and he’s not much of a creator. He can square up and bang down a shot and he could penetrate out of a triple threat position–I just can’t see him opening up the defense.

  13. Gerard says:

Lol Ashlov. Some players are made to run the offense because they have the vision, skill, and playmaking ability. T-Mac, Odom, LeBron, Pippen, etc. Prince is not that type, they would be better served with Lindsey Hunter starting the offense.

they’ll be fine because the mummy is a great player and so is everyone else on their squad. people just doubt tayshaun because dude is just, straight up, ugly. sorry. but he’s ugly. he’s got that long face. his shouldrs are hunched over. even his jumpshot looks ugly and the way he plays looks kind of awkward. but he’s got MAD game. and you guys all know you hate him cuz he plays well against you. i personally hate him in the most respectful way. GO HEAT! beasley will be producing bigger soon. you aint ready yet.
