The Iverson Effect
Most of the commentary out there on the Allen Iverson trade has been that he’s washed up (except HERE of course). Apparently people in Detroit don’t think so. The Need4Sheed breaks down A.I.’s impact on everything from season ticket sales to TV to the ridiculous amount of hits on the Pistons’ web site. Check it out HERE.

I have been watching highlights of Iverson’s today in anticipation of tomorrow…and I am much happier today then I was monday…The idea of having someone who can just wreak havoc offensively will be great…and if he doesnt have it, get it to Sheed, Prince, and Rip…also…I hope to see a few lob passses to Amir now…that boy can jump!

People have been claiming Iverson has lost a step for years now.. and the guy keeps putting up numbers. If people would take a minute to put their hate behind them they would actually see that Iverson had one of his best years last season with the Nuggets crappy system, and was the main reason why the Nuggets even went to the playoffs last season. With all due respect to Melo, Iverson was the MVP of that team last season. The guy is human, and he will indeed slow down one day..as will everyone else. But I can honastly say I have never seen a player like Iverson. That guy takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’. Years from now I can see Iverson retiring close to what he is playing like right now..thats how sick that guy is. The media has always hated on Iverson, so thats nothing new. The majority of them want to see the guy fail. If he goes to the Pistons and takes care of business then they will be all over him. They need to GTFOH with all that.
Im happpy he’s out of Denver, and watching the Nuggets lastnight vs Golden State was a prime example of how undisciplined that team is and how messed up their system is. I hope Billups can go there and help out but I feel bad that he has went from a contender to a pretender. Good luck Chauncy, because they handcuffed Iversons game on the Nuggets to pacify Melo and you see what happened.

Idiots they are for thinking Iverson is washed up. Here’s my case…and my case to why this trade makes Detroit a serious contender.
Last season AI averaged : 26.4 pts 7.2 asts 3.0 rebs. 45.8% fg 2.0 stls.
Now when the “washed up” comment comes up…one must remember that this is a man that won the MVP with:
31.1 pts 4.6 asts 3.9 rebs. 42.0% fg 2.8 stls.
Yeah..theres a drop off…but damn…it was the 2000-01 season. Can you really consider his last year’s numbers as washed up??? I’d kill to see a young buck average Iverson’s last season’s numbers. That ain’t superstar numbers…but Iverson has aged very well in my mind. I would hardly consider him washed up.
Considering…and this is why I think he’s not washed up. IN his MVP season…he averaged the most avg. minutes in his career: 43:42
Last season he averaged 41:00 minutes. A 2 minute, 42 sec. drop off in average minutes, in a 7 year span for an aging guard…tell me a guard his age that could put up numbers and minutes like that. Iverson still produces. And he still puts in his time. That’s not washed up.
One more stat…his MVP season, he attempted an average 25.5 shots….last season, 19. Consider his assist total now and you could make the case that he’s just as effective now than his MVP season.
Detroit has enough pieces to make sure he isn’t averaging 41 minutes…sure he isn’t as explosive, and not as quick. But he’s wiser, and more of a distributor. I think he’ll fit perfectly with this system because he doesn’t have to be the MVP Iverson on this team.
Now give him a kid to mentor like Stuckey. Limit his minutes so Stuckey can grow (and save MVP Iverson for the playoffs). Give him a pure shooter like Hamilton. Give him Sheed…give him Tayshaun…and give him that plethora of big guys. Now bring a bunch of dumbasses to call him washed up to give him that fire. Sell out the Palace…and watch the crazies in Motown go nuts every time their superstar catches the damn ball.
A championship contender, a superstar, a bright future with cap flexibility, a strong core, and a strong youth core.
Joe Dumars is a friggin genius.

just watchin TNT with barkely…and he had said some great stuff…Dumars is a genius. paraphrazing CB..AI contract expries this year, so they are basically renting AI for a year, b/c they will not resign him b/c of age and cost for a multi year contract…
also, big ups for CB for congratulating Obama, and telling the truth, that we need to step up as people, its not good when we got more people in jail then college

yeah…i have no doubts Iverson will get a amazing ovation Sunday in his home debut…He’ll win over any “we should of kept Billups” in one game with his hustle and desire for the game.

How does anyone know how long Detroit will keep Iverson? Yes, he comes off the books next season, but Dumars said himself despite what people are saying about that, the money situation was second on the list..that he did not bring Iverson there just to clear cap space next year, though he said that they are glad that they were able to clear both sides of the coin. Dumars said he brought him there because he thinks it is beneficial to the team and that he thinks it will work for the long term. Iverson has a ton of money and if Iverson signs for a lessor contract to stay with a winning team, which im sure he will, then why not hold onto a player like that? They will still have more then enough to go after anyother free agent they wish.
People get on my nerves acting as if Iverson isn’t worth sh*t and he just needs to continue to be tossed around. A bunch of bandwagon fans. Im just not buying this “Dumars will get rid of Iverson next season” stuff. Dumars is a smart man, he has respect for the players and the game itself. David Aldridge said that he believes Dumars brought Iverson there because he wants to try to help Iverson get a riing before he retires. Dumars tried to get Iverson in 2001 and the deal fell through. Dumars said the othernight that he feels like people get players at the right time in their careers and that he would not have made the trade for anyone less then Iverson. I beleive that he brought Iverson there out of respect because he’s tired of watching Iverson struggle. Judging by the way he was talking, I beleive Dumars wants to keep Iverson there with him untill he retires because he doesn’t want to see him go to another team.

Oh and by the way, the Owner of the Nuggets said he was not going to trade Iverson unless he felt it was beneficial for BOTH sides, he said it was a struggle on wether or not they were going to trade him.. but they have to know deep down that they have a long way to go before they contend for a title. He said they were not going to just trade him to any team, one of their main goals was to make sure he went to a contender. And im sure one thing the Nuggets weren’t going to do was let Iversons contract expire next season and watch him walk away with getting anything in return.
