The Nets Have No Clue How To Beat A Zone

Vince CarterVC

I’ve always considered Lawrence Frank a pretty good coach. But watching the Nets try to deal with the Hawks zone at the end of the first half tonight is downright frustrating. Three times already, the Nets’ announcers on YES have telestrated that they don’t have anyone in the middle of the floor to help break down Atlanta’s zone.

Even after a timeout following an Atlanta run, the Nets ended up getting a contested three from Vince Carter in the corner. On their next trip down, after Frank called a play in which he rubbed his chin like a baseball skipper, they ended up having Jarvis Hayes try a trey from the other corner.

While they’ve struggled to figure much of anything out, Joe Johnson has heated up. He’s swished two triples in a row and helped close the gap to 55-50 at the half.

    New Jersey 119

    Devin Harris
    9-15, 33 Pts
    3 Rebs, 10 Assists

Looks like they found a way outta that zone.
