The Next Blockbuster NBA Trade

Vince CarterCould VC be next to go?

Now that the Pistons have satisfied their summer-long itch to make a blockbuster deal by acquiring AI, might there be any other big names on the move before the season really gets rolling? We’ve got a list of guys who we could see wearing new uniforms - not only because of the rumors that have circulated for a while, but also because Detroit set the bar high with this deal.

* Shawn Marion - Had Vegas set the odds on which marquee name would be the first to change teams this season, I would have bet the house on Matrix. Though that didn’t happen, he’s got to be the frontrunner to be traded before anyone else. As many predicted, he and Beasley look out of sync together, and it’s contributed to a disappointing 1-2 start for the team that everyone projected would ride Dwyane Wade’s coattails out of the lottery.

* Vince Carter - Does anyone believe that the 1-1 Nets are buyers in the ‘08-09 free agent market? Though there’s a boatload of cash left on Vince’s deal, there could be a home for him among playoff contenders come All-Star break.

* Gerald Wallace - Though AI/Chauncey were the first to be dealt, Wallace’s name popped up even before them.

* Carlos Boozer - Wait, really? Yes, Boozer is someone who could be on the move this season if Utah truly believes that they won’t be able to re-sign him after the end of this season. Though they won’t get the type production out of Paul Millsap every night like what he did last night, he could help to offset the pain felt by losing Booz. It might end up being the best move for Utah’s long-term future.

* Ben Gordon - BG went for the one-year qualifying offer on his contract, as the Bulls refused to pay him Luol Deng-money. Instead of letting him walk at the end of this season, maybe Chicago wants to get some sort of return on Gordon by dealing him to a contender in need of a shooter. Maybe Phoenix will realize that playing D isn’t for them by that point in the season?

* Tracy McGrady - I think that T-Mac would only get dealt under the perfect circumstances. Rockets GM Daryl Morey seemed willing to listen to offers for his aging superstar, but made it clear that he’s fully behind T-Mac, even with his 39, er, I mean, 29 year old body. Houston would need to get someone in return who can contribute right now, along with something for later.

* Stephon Marbury - Not sure that he qualifies as “blockbuster” player any more, but his $21 million definitely does. If Starbury’s sit-down with Donnie Walsh continues this stalemate, maybe the Knicks will try to take on the majority of his contract, but still deal him to a team desperate for backcourt help.

B-rad Miller my kings aint going anywhere this year and a good passing big man will help any contender…he just fell in love with the purples out here in northern cali!!..& T-mac aint going nowhere thats just ridiculous mr say anything..

What about the Lakers trading Lamar Odom, they don’t seem to need him anymore and can’t see them re-signing him next year after giving all that money to Bynum. Why let him walk for nothing in the offseason when an upgrade at SF could be had? I mean Vlad the impaler isn’t exactly a stud.

  3. Casey Lee says:

Can you say: one of the Knicks guards?

  4. Sim says:

    McGrady stays in Houston…

THIS TRADE WORKS! I honestly hope and pray this would go down!

Knicks trade Stephon Marbury, Eddy Curry, Nate Robinson, David Lee and a pick to the HEAT. The HEAT give up Udonis Haslem, Shawn Marion and Mark Blount in return.

Should benefit both teams! What do you people think?

  6. Kobe says:

Somebody get me a tough 3 to replace Odom. Stupid Artest messed up; What’s up Matrix?

  8. Kermit the Washington says:

    Ok Jayo, we get it…geez!

I think Odom should be on this list too. I agree with Kobe lol

  9. GEE...Put a B-Ball Court on the White House says:

Knicks need to make something happen!
I think Portland got some bait to trade too.

  10. vinny says:

Jayo- why would you give up robinson and lee? marion is a free agent at the end of the season and Blount is overpaid-shit he cant start for Miami!!

  11. George W Kush Sr says:

Knicks need to trade Starbury if they aint gonna play him, and Eddy Curry too. Those have to be done.

They need to keep Nate Robinson, David Lee and W.Chandler.

Crawford isnt impressing me much, neither is Mardy Collins.

  12. karizmatic says:

The Lakers should trade Lamar Odom, Jordan Farmar and Radmanovic for T-Mac. lol. Sorry my favorite dream trade.

  13. dapro says:

    Mac isn’t moving this season

Now if they fail to reach the high expectations that the team has and Ron Ron stays on the sane side of town then Mac gets shipped

This is the really the first legitimate help he has had in several years (Yao, Battier, Ron Ron, Brooks, etc..)

  14. dagwaller says:

I sincerely don’t know why T-Mac would get traded. Unless it was for Kobe or something, why would you do it if you were Houston? T-Mac is in the middle of his prime, as are Yao and Artest. That there is a win-now team.

Any other 2s out there that are more capable of leading the Rockets past the first round? Oh, wait…

But really, unless you could get Kobe, D-Wade, KG, or some other top 10 talent that doesn’t play the 3 or the 5, trading T-Mac doesn’t make any sense at all.

  15. Ian says:

    carter to the spurs
fuck no one will call carter lazy after that

  16. kobewade1012 says:

wat about curry/lil nate for marion/blount or blount/marion for marbury and 2nd round pick
