The Truth About The Gerald Wallace Trade Rumors
Within the last week, we’ve heard the following news about Gerald Wallace, none of which has been confirmed as true.
* First, the Bobcats had reportedly agreed to trade him, though the destination was unclear.
* Then, news dropped that he was going to Golden State in a three-team trade that sent Eddy Curry and David Lee to Charlotte, and Al Harrington and Marco Belinelli to New York. That hasn’t panned out either.
* And this morning, we’re hearing that the Raptors are also in the mix, hoping to do something to address their porous perimeter defense. Bryan Colangelo is realizing that Jose Calderon, Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon really can’t guard anyone. Thus, they’re trying to figure a way to be the third team in that three-way deal with the Warriors and Bobcats.
But, even with all of those possibilities circulating, there’s another one that undermines the legitimacy behind all of the Gerald Wallace rumors.
“With four more seasons after this at $9.5 million per season, one general manager said Charlotte is the one putting out rumors that others are interested in Gerald Wallace.”
That’s kind of crazy to think that all of this could be made up.
If that’s the price that you’ve got to pay, would you still be willing to give up some talent to get Crash?

got them..SCOOBY DO's says:
Harrington to the Knicks does not make them too much better…I mean he’s a versatile player who can play the 3, 4 or even 5 which is what I’m sure why the knicks in D’Antoni’s systems want him….
Toronto would be nice with Stephon coming off the bench….
Charlotte - Curry and David Lee? Does that get them in the playoffs? I say no! Dumb trade…. While they need a center, I wouldn’t give up Crash…for a premadonna like Curry….

TO says:
Please let this one be true for Toronto.
Perfect compliment to the Raptors - good defender and that other scoring option.
We’re missing a wing player that can create his own.
I wanted this in the summer time when rumours were flying before the JO trade.
As I was watchin yesterday I said this exact thing to my brother.

So who would the Raptors give away in exchange?

Dime Magazine says:
The Raptors NEED this to happen. Their D against a bad team was horrendous yesterday.

Michorizo says:
I thought J. Oneal and Bosh combined were going to hide the defensive flaws that Toronto had…i haven’t seen any Raptor games yet, but is J. Oneal or Bosh the defensive problems there?

TO says:
@Jeronimo - I dunno $$ wise how this would work more than likely Im sure some team are intrigued by Barnagni (however I dont see Colangelo giving up on him)
@Michorizo - Jo & CB are doin there thing defensively. Jamario has his moments. A Parker is decent but not necessarily that lock down defender. Kapono - enough said. Calderon I feel just cant guard the other athletic 1’s and 2’s

Pince for Gerald, Pistons allday.

@ Youngfed–
Don’t you think that the trade for AI already messed up Detroit’s chemistry and then to trade Prince for Crash? That would ruin their chemistry even more. Sure they would have all around more talent but that doesn’t equal wins

Spliff 2 My Lou says:
Sorry Fed but Prince is better than Gerald Wallace. Tayshaun is rarely injured and a smarter player.

Ashlov says:
Crash would work great alongside Wade and Chalmers running the break and making steals, but his contract isn’t 2009/2010-friendly, which the Heat seem to be focused on.
Otherwise, you could do a three team trade, something like Marion/Anthony to NY (Knicks would give a nut for cap space), Curry/Richardson to Charlotte, Wallace/Mohammed to Miami.
It’ll never happen, but that’s one idea.

Slightly one sided for LA but how about Wallace and Felton For Odom??!! Helps Both teams in positions of weakness

TD says:
Bargnani to Golden State
Crash to Toronto
Harrington & Joey Graham to Charlotte
Graham is thrown in to make the $$$ work.
Does this trade make sense?

Drink the Haterade (KB24 Chip 09) says:
@ 11– I like LO in his 6th man role and LA is dominating right now, they not gonna trade anyone as long as it’s working.
November 10th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Brown says:
I just don’t see Colangelo giving up on Bargnani just yet. If it was me, I’d do it in a heartbeat, but Crash’s injury history scares me. I’d want someone better. I wouldn’t have drafted Bargnani anyways, since I had B-Roy pegged as the best player in that draft, so this really shouldn’t be an issue for the Raps, but whatever.
Drafting Graham and Bargnani over Granger and Roy/Gay killed the Raptors. They haven’t drafted well in years, which is the downfall of a lot of teams.
Plus the Raps have nothing tradeable outside of Bargnani that any other team in the league would want.

Haqq says:
That would be so smart for Raptors… But I love Moooooon I hope they dont get rid of him man.
November 10th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
TD says:
@Brown
I agree that giving up on Bargnani is a tough decision, but you need to get value out of that guy eventually, even if it’s through a trade. I don’t see him being as good as Wallace in the short term, which is where the raptors need to improve if they want to keep Bosh long term.

i love the raptors passion on this website

Kevin says:
From a Raps standpoint, I make the trade happen asap. Bargs is an excellent shooter and is developing in other areas, especially shot blocking, but he doesn’t have the killer instinct to win games. The talent is there, but in terms of intangibles, he just doesn’t have it. Bargs would destroy in Nellie’s system, threes all day would summon regret in Raps fans, but we’d be better off.

Mark says:
@13
But how much does LO REALLY like coming off the bench? Plus his contract is up after this season, he could walk for nothing and LA has to find a replacement…tough crop to find someone who brings what LO does, Crash is the ideal player?! Just a thought

KaiKai says:
Harrington wont go to charlotte because he wants to win…wallace has a contract of 9mil for 5 years i think…thats a good thing lets say barney goes for wallace and maybe jawai starts playing….anyways that will show bosh committment and raps will no doubt dropa huge contract extension on him.this deal may secure the raps future DONT PEOPLE KNOW WALLACE IS 26 AND PROBALLY THE BEST SF TO COMPLIMENT BOSH VICE VERSA IN THE LEAGUE.

Feiop says:
I’ve heard some friends talk about Moon+ someone else for gerald wallace.I heard that Michael Jordan doesnt want gerald wallace and they want moon because he is athletic.
If this trade go through raptors will probably have one of the best front court and likely to make it go to eastern finals.

Gamboa says:
The Warriors want either Lamar Odom, Gerald Wallace or Andrea Barnagni because then that would bring Marco Bellinelli out of his shell. Harrington wants to leave and we don’t want him.
