The War Against Chris Mullin

Golden State Warriors

This hurts my heart. Chris Mullin has always been my basketball idol, and even though he and the Warriors have nothing to do with Philly, over the last few years I had sort of adopted the W’s as my West Coast squad because of the way they played and because Mully was the architect.

Now there’s been an an obscene amount of ridiculousness going in the Warriors’ front office in the last few months, and battle lines have been drawn between Mully and team president Robert Rowell. Unfortunately for the legions of Warriors fans out there, it appears as if the writing is on the wall for Chris Mullin and anyone close to him in the organization. Mullin is about to fall victim to a petty, vindictive executive who is drunk with power.

Good job Robert. Pretty great way to reward the guy who made your franchise relevant again isn’t it?

I was going to ask Warriors fans how it feels to be at the mercy of an inept front office circus, but I lived through the Billy King/Larry Brown year in Philly. At the same time though, there was never one person seemingly hell-bent on destroying a franchise like this clown Rowell is doing today in Oakland.

man if carlos arroyo would have signed with the warriors, man that team would be better, the warriors are tailor-made for arroyo’s abilities.

  • fallinup

Get rid of Mullin then. He’ll find a better job.

GS will forever be in the cellar.

  • HBooyah

This team is the worst-run team in the league. If it’s not the Knicks messing up with monster contracts for mediocre players and locker room conflicts and downright playing terrible in the East, it’s Golden State hiring a GM, not listening to their GM, and letting valuable players go for nothing in the West.

They’ve gone from being a fun team to watch to an absolute joke.

  • doc

I think B-Diddy made them relevant.

  • Corey – A Bay Area Warriors Fan

Just a note to the dude who said that Carlos Arroyo should have signed with the warriors: you are an idiot. Obviously you don’t watch warriors games, or carlos arroyo-featured games, because if you did you would realize how utterly stupid your comment was. Go warriors. Long live Chris Mullin. Down with Robert Rowell and Chris Cohan. Bay Area sports ownership is in serious need of an over-haul.

Quest–you seriously have to get Arroyo’s dick. Anything that happens in the world, you can relate to Carlos Arroyo. Stop it. There has to be another Puerorican who can ball. How about Barea? Rep Barea for five minutes instead of your Boy in Tel Aviv.

Seriously, who’s going to wanna play for GS now? They dont even got they people’s back, why work for an organization like that?
If they let Mullin go like that, garanteed they’re in for another decade of hurt. Its a shame too. Sucks for the fans. Monta might bounce. They dont wanna give S-Jack his money, so he might follow. Al Harrington is almost gone. And now Mullin.
Seriously, who’s gonna wanna play for them?

  • Zohan

Warriors are on the verge of getting gerald wallace!! That will shut up rowell.

Worry not about Chris Mullin. He has been shaping up to become a part of the Nets front office when they move to Brooklyn.

Rod Thorn will still head the regime as President, but look for Mullin to have a front office position back in his BK hometown.

I believe (without naming names) that I can supply the details should you need it.

When they got rid of Jrich i think everyone saw the writing on the wall..

And Docs right for once.. BDizzle made them relevant.. and look how they did him.. “thanks for taking us to the playoffs and giving us revenue up the anal with that upset Bdiddy! Now take a back seat to this youngster!”

Mullin had a part in that too though so it aint like hes a bball genious.. He made TOO many moves..

  • LakeShow84

And what about the Raiders being the worst run team in oakland..

    WOW..

  • Brown

Where is Chris Cohan in all this mess? He’s the owner, and it’s his ultimate responsibility to right the ship. Fire Rowell if need be. They’re close to losing all the fans that came back to Oracle Arena the past couple years. If Cohan won’t do the right thing, it’s his money the team will be losing when fans stop showing up to games, buying merchandise, etc. I’ll always be a Warriors fan, but it’s hard to support a shitty team. We’re in a free fall right now and the people with the power to do anything about it are enabling/allowing it to happen.

Im always right old ass Lake Show, thats why you read my posts.

@ sans, i havent talked about arroyo in a while now, im just saying that the only teams that he could have succeeded in the nba were the golden state warriors and the knicks, given their style of play. even dime reckognized a few months ago that arroyo was being held back when he was playing with the magic

  • Diego

Not a big fan of Mullin. The one time I met him a handful of years ago, he was an inexplicable jerk.

Basically, if you are a GM who makes unwanted waves with the higher-ups in the organization, your bosses may/will can you. (See, e.g., Billy Knight formerly of the Hawks.) Play nice and you may stay (like Hawks coach Woodson).

In business, it usually doesn’t hurt to suck up a bit to your boss(es).

  • john doee

Yea because this elite nba team doesn’t need any changes does it ? Lets keep the same people and try to get that 8th seed every year.

@ corey, who the fuck are u, u obviously hasnt seen arroyo’s style of play, i aint saying he is an allstar but he could be a solid pg,i know a lot about international competition so shut the fuck up and go home. check arroyo’s stats when he was a started with the jazz? and at one point when he came to detroit ppl in espn were calling him the best backup pg,and if u want more evidence check his stats on international play, and what he averages agaisnt the best team in the world, team usa.

  • http://www.myspace.com/carli_borikua4life QuEsT???

    go and fade into irrelevancy

  • dagwaller

No, LakeShow, doc is wrong (as usual). Who signed Baron Davis, fellas? Oh, wait, that’s right. Chris Mullin.

  • Celts Fan

@Diego, don’t know how long ago it was, but at one point, Mullin was a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE alcoholic. If that was the time you met him, that might explain a bit…

Can we at least give SOME credit to Nellie too? Haven’t even heard his name mentioned, but HIS system of just letting guys play and doing the old run & gun was huge there too. Obviously, you need players or no amount of coaching helps. but 21 comments in and I haven’t even heard his name so I had to throw that out there.

You know who didn’t make the whole thing go? Marcus Williams.
