Josh Smith MUST be excluded because he has been out most of the year. If that is not the reason, whoever wrote this article at Dime needs to be at the least suspended and fined salary for several weeks (or just flat out canned due to lack of requisite NBA knowledge). Smoove crushes shots. I agree with Jay re. Horford.

Al Horford is on the list? I was surprised so I looked up his stats and his 1.77 blocks aren't that bad. But from watching him, I never thought he was a real presence that protected the rim. Guys aren't deterred from attacking the rim by his being there. His teammate Josh Smith is a better shotblocker than him.

Rasheed Wallace has always impressed and mystified me with his ability to challenge shots and not foul. As a result, he doesn't register eyepopping block numbers but he's as good as any big at reducing the field goal percentage of guys attacking the rim. He's a master of jumping with a player, avoiding contact in the air and just using his immense length to effect the shot. I don't know how he does it so well. He's such a smart player. He, Duncan and Garnett are all masters of that art except Duncan also blocks more shots than either of them.

Among smalls who are good shotblockers, I always thought Pierce was a pretty good shotblocker. In his younger days, he blocked as many jumpshots of the man he was guarding, which is a rare thing to do, as anybody in the league. He flashed back to that in the finals when he emphatically sent back Kobe's turnaround jumper in game 4. When has Kobe ever had that happened to him? After that, Kobe never tried to post Pierce again the rest of the series.

if health was no deal, then i'm going with guys like manute bol and mark eaton . . . those guys would have killed if the nba was a half court game (where all you have to do is clear the ball after def. boards).

when healthy no matterhow old zo is at least in the top3.
always lead the league in blocks per 48 minuts the last couple years. over the last 20 yeats no one had that sick timing. not even the dream, he was just more physically giftet
