We Reminisce: The “Other” Flu Game
With Derrick Rose and the Bulls facing the Jazz in Salt Lake City tonight, it reminded me of one of the great Bulls/Jazz moments: No, it’s not “The Shot” or “The Flu Game” from the ‘97 Finals. Back in the ‘87-88 season, young MJ was battling a flu when he went into Utah in a regular season game and handed Karl Malone, John Stockton, Mark Eaton and crew (plus one Marc Iavaroni) a nice 47 points, 9 assists, 3 steals and 3 blocks.

who edited this video? WTF? why the jumpball footage, the extended 30 seconds of halftime footage with one guy shooting by himself and nothing else going on. The Mike footage is pretty nice, but the excess filler makes this 3minute highlight reel into an 8 minute monster that I don’t even have time to watch.

GREATEST in the making, then and now. Imagine GOAT playing in today games, dominating left/right. Can’t be stopped and be on XMAS year in/year out.
Can anyone in today ear guard the greatest. I don’t think so.

Austin Burton says:
@sans — I think those extended non-MJ parts were the announcers talking about MJ to give the clip atmosphere.

Great announcers, Utah network giving you the real about MJ. That’s how it should be done…today it’s “homer” central w/ the team networks

All due respect to the GOAT, but that state line is very Wade-esque as well.

I remember watching this game when I lived in Chicago on the local station, and that dustup between Malone and Paxson. Agreed that the announcers were so much more pleasant and respectful for this game — how horrific would it have been to have Celtic or Spur-level homers doing this game?
Today, if that had been Garnett and another player that got tied up, Heinsohn would have been screaming at the top of his lungs “THAT’S HORRRRRIBLE!!!”, and calling for the beheading of the opposing player.

John says:
Thats the game that he dunked on Stockton and some guy in the crowd got up and said ” Hey Jordan , why dont you dunk in somebody of your on size ? ” and the next possession he dunked in a 7 footer center , look to the guy and said; ” Is he big enough ?” priceless …

John … That’s true? …
This is the GOAT …
I don’t know, if Jordan played today with the hand check rules. He would average 40 pts. This guy is from another world …
