Xavier Henry commits to Memphis

One of the 10 best high school basketball players in the country — and arguably the most NBA-ready — has made his college decision.

Xavier Henry (Putnam H.S., Oklahoma City), ranked 7th overall in Dime’s preseason national high school player rankings (Dime #45) committed to Memphis today, where he’ll join his older brother, C.J. Henry. At 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, Xavier has a pro two-guard’s body, an effortless left-hand J with three-point range, and can get to the bucket and finish strong with either hand. As a junior last season he averaged 26.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals.

After being limited on the AAU/camp scene this summer due to injury, Xavier was involved in an auto accident last month that required surgery to repair a broken cheekbone. He isn’t expected back on the court until late-December.

Paring his list down to Kansas and Memphis, Xavier said picked Coach Cal‘s program because the up-tempo style fits his game, and because he wanted to play with his brother, a 22-year-old freshman guard who was picked by the Yankees in the 2005 Major League Baseball draft and spent a couple years in their minor league system.

  4. Sho-Nuff says:

Tyreke Evans looked lost last night. He had zero touch on his jumper.

Wasn’t Sosa supposed to go to Rutgers and changed his mind?

  5. webbie352 says:

  7. JCARR says:

Agree with heckler this is the first time i hear about this guy. Can’t you guys(Dime) just wait until he gets to college and then start writing about him. Unless he has LJ23 potential or something then its understandable.

  8. Timmy D says:

John Wall is a lock for Memphis too. Memphis will win the National Championship in 2010 no doubt. You put two top 5 NBA talents on a team and you will win it all I dont care how old they are.

  9. Yoooo says:

Memphis is gettin this kid from Jersey Kyrie Irving who plays for St Pats, already has a 1000 pts under his belt in 2 years… He’ll be a problem, but thats 2010.

Henry aint explosive man. Hes just strong. Cant see his game translating to nothing effective in the League

  10. Sho-Nuff says:
