YOUNGFED’S NBA ROY Rankings
D. RoseFor this PASS THE MIC, we’re turning it over to a member of the Dimemag.com Family you almost certainly know from his daily presence on the site: YOUNGFED
For his column, FED wanted to break down his top NBA Rookie of the Year candidates, so here you go. Check it out and let him (and us) know what you think in the comments section below…
FEDRODOMOUS ROY CANDIDATES (The Future Is Now Edition)
1. Derrick Rose – This kid can flat out play. He’s very difficult to stay in front of and carves up opponents like a fat guy in front of a steak dinner. Thus far the kid has seemed virtually
unstoppable. Sometimes he over-penetrates, but I can live with that. FED Player rating: 8.5
2. O.J. (Killin’em Softly) Mayo – Right now, O.J. and Rose are the front runners for ROY. It seems like Mayo is on a mission and has been playing with a huge chip on his shoulder as if to say, “B-Easy and Rose aren’t better than me.” Only time will tell if “Orange Juice” (not the killer/idiot) will be the leader of the pack. FED Player Rating: 8.5
3. Michael (B-Easy) Beasley – HE Hasn’t quite liveD up to the hype just yet like Lebron and Durant in their rookie tenures but trust me, this boy is a beast. He’s an athletic shooter who can dribble and defend. What more can you ask for? I’ll tell you … Lebron status and NOTHING LESS.
FED Player Rating: 8.5
4. Marc (I’m 23 but in dog years) Gasol – Hey, I can admit when I’m surprised. After that 27-point, 16-rebound game at the start of the season, I’m a believer that this apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree. Some of you guys are gonna jump on this selection but hey dude has been ballin’. FLAT OUT. FED Player Rating: 7
5. Rudy (Yono Abala Espanol) Fernandez – This guy is absolutely deadly from the perimeter. I seriously think no one would have thought this kid would be ballin’ like this quickly. He’s already ahead of the curve and is knocking back J’s like Snoop on tour. He’s also got more energy than an old man on Viagra. FED Player Rating: 7
6. Russell (I can’t get an assist even though Kevin Durant’s on my team) Westbrook – The good part about this jet of an athlete is he makes his whole team better when he plays under control. Why his assists aren’t higher is beyond me, but he’ll adjust. FED Player Rating: 7
7. Kevin (White Man Can’t Jump) Love – Not exactly what I was expecting coming out of the pre-season. I was hoping for at least 15 and 10 but the kid has game … It just happens to be below the rim. I know his overall athleticism is in question but he plays smart, tough, and is skilled. He’ll be all right, even though he reminds me of the kid who could never dunk but tries sooooooo hard. FED Player Rating: 7
8. Jason (Big Ears) Thompson – Not much to say here. Dude has been balling, however with the B-Miller back and the rise of Spencer Hawes, Thompson’s minutes will probably not be what they would be on another team. But he is Sac-Town’s future PFF (Power Forward Forever). FED Player Rating: 7
9. Darrell (I Didn’t Inhale) Arthur – At just 6-9 he’s a bit undersized but has shown the ability too ball. After getting caught doing what most of the NBA and America does the kid was really embarrassed but ended that controversy rather quickly. He’ll be one heck of a ball player. FED Player Rating: 7
10. Mario (I Really Shouldn’t Have Made The List) Chalmers – Alright, this pick is strictly off of potential and defense. However, anyone who can get nine steals in one game is on my list. NINE FREAKIN’ STEALS. That’s probably a record, but I’ll let y’all stat junkies figure that out. Whether it is or not, it’s still ridiculous. FED Player Rating: 6.5
FEDRODOMOUS PREDICTS: R.O.Y. will be Mayo
Alright, that’s it for now, these are simply my opinions spun with a ‘lil YOUNGFIZZLE flavor. So let me know what you guys think or hit me with any suggestions or improvements to my ROY LIST. HOLLA!!!!
YOUNGFED aka AGENT HERO aka FEDRODOMOUS
Oh almost forgot … FedCrest Out (LMAO). I always wanted to do that.

Hmmm, nice post though.

Big North says:
9 steals is impressive but I’m sure Eddie Jones got him covered in that area although not by much. 11 if memory serves, i cosign the OJ ROY, although the combo guard label needs to be dropped, this guy is a serial scorer.

“Yo no hablo español” dumb ass. Google Translator could help you. And I’m not from spanish heritage. Neither english, but you can show respect with a little effort.
Good ranking anyway.

Nice post, FED. No love for “The Big Mongoloid” Brook Lopez??
As for the ROY. Rose is the leader of the Bulls. It’s his to lose. You can’t deny his impact.
Where’s my mic, Dime?

November 26th, 2008 at 9:46 am

Good post fed…I still think Kev Love is suspect tho. I will say this tho that commercial w/ Mark jackson and stu scott, where Love has to climb under the bus is hilarious.

Octopus Jonny says:
Where’s Luc Mbah a Moute on here? He’s been ballin hard since the start of the season and leads all rookies in rebounding and is ranked #6 on NBA.com’s Rookie Rankings. He has a 19-17 game with 10 offensive boards under his belt and is quickly showing to be the best defender on a surprisingly good defensive Milwaukee team. (Defense? Milwaukee? REALLY?! YEP!)
November 26th, 2008 at 9:57 am
MSkittle says:
Good analysis, Fed
November 26th, 2008 at 9:59 am
YOUNGFED says:
@Octopus
Milwaukee and defense should never “ever, ever, ever” be used in the same sentence. But who would you replace on the list with this guy.

Hum, good list, I am a Heat fan, and I expect a lot more from B-Easy, but we got to remember that he is only 19 ,,,
I will go with D-Rose as ROY
November 26th, 2008 at 10:05 am
justice says:
good post fed, but beasley will never be as good as lebron you can’t teach speed..but he will be one of those ten time all star guys along with mayo, they are all special but rose will get it he really makes the game easy for everyone else he will be roy…Juice is my fav though,has anyone notice OJ is like the first option for the grizz now, gay has kinda been playing the pip role lately, they might be onto something hopefully they can change the cities
November 26th, 2008 at 10:05 am
j says:
a third of your list is ballin? you write like you are trying to sound like bobito garcia. I got blazer season tickets and the one time I saw derrick rose he was far from unstoppable, he flat out sucked. other than your writing style i agree with your list
November 26th, 2008 at 10:06 am
Kobeef says:
@Fed
I think you meant to say “The future is now EDITION”…better luck next time.
Rose will be ROY. He’s getting and hitting more shots (layups?) and at this point is showing a more complete game at the hardest position in the NBA (pG)…even if he doesn’t have an outside shot.
The OJ Mayo for Kevin Love trade is looking really stupid for the Wolves..which is not surprising given the track record of McHale.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:10 am
dapro says:
Fed
Nice article fam except
B-Easy plays almost no D and that’s being generous
November 26th, 2008 at 10:10 am
IGP says:
When I saw that Mayo for Love trade, I didn’t get it. I like both players, and it sounded like Love was gonna be really good (losing weight, hitting the gym, etc.). He’s been decent but really OJ is going to be a great player in this league.
I hope it’s not co rookies of the year that would be lame.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:12 am
YOUNGFED says:
@Justice
B-Easy doesn’t have Lebrons speed but he does have a better jumper. Remember when everybody was saying K-Durant was the next Lebron well B-easy had a better Pre-NBA career than him.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:13 am
Sweet English says:
FED son i was wondering where you’ve been, but i can see you been putting some blood, sweat and ink into this list.
Either that or its taken you 6 days to come up with the dog years joke, that was a killer.
Good job man interesting post. It’s readable and professional enough but its still full of FED.
Dissapointed that there was no banger of the day there though…
YOUNGFED, Ladies and Gents. The only man in the world with more nicknames than Gilbert Arenas.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:17 am
YOUNGFED says:
@J
I don’t know what games you’ve been watching but i ain’t seen D-Rose suck once.
@Kobeef
No I said exactly what I wanted to say
@Dapro
B-Easy does plays D Fam. BTW what’d you think of my Banger of the day.
@IGP
Yeah Mc-Fail is a dumbass and it might be a Co-Rookie this year if Mayo and Rose keep playing like this.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:21 am
YOUNGFED says:
@SweetEnglish
Actually Dime wanted me to post it last week but I was vacationing in the Bahamas. If want to check out today’s BANGER go to today’s Smack. BTW LMAO at that nickname joke, didn’t know you had it in you.

@j – I don’t think any of the Bulls showed up for the game against the Blazers. That was one of the worst performances by an NBA team I’ve seen this year.

Bahamas, grabbin the mic’ on Dime…..

P_Dizzle says:
Not a bad post Youngfed.
I would swap out B-Easy at 3 and Rudy Fernandez at 5. That’s the only change I would make on here, I think B-Easy has been living more off the hype more then what he’s produced on the court and Fernandez has pulled an Ali and shocked the world. He (Fernandez) has to get some serious ROY consideration.
Also yeah I would probably have Lopez (Brook) as a 8 or a 9.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:29 am

Im playin’ FED it’s good to see your ballin’ in more than one way.

Naw life ain’t that great, ever since we got back all my girl talks about is getting a time-share in the bahamas. WTF pays 10 G’s for month a year that’s just crazy to me. I rather buy a house there.

No one thinks Greg Oden cracks the top 10? Barring another catastrophic injury, I find that hard to believe.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:36 am
P_Dizzle says:
Good point rocket cat, where the hell is Oden in all this talk?
I forgot about his old ass.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Sweet English says:
Don’t talk to me about buyin’ property man i live in the UK. A 2 bed bungalow in the subburbs would set you back the equivalent of about $250K. a $10k time share in the bahamas sounds like a BARGAIN to me.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:41 am
IGP says:
well you know they say the bigger the headache the bigger the pill baby
November 26th, 2008 at 10:43 am
YOUNGFED says:
@Rocket and P-Dizzle
Exactly what has Oden done so far, dude has only had like one decent game this year. He might just be a bust.
@SweetEnglish
that’s 10,000 for one week a year for 30 years (Fuq that) my bad about the wrong info. I’m complaining but the spots we saw where really nice and the water was really see thru.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:50 am
Sweet English says:
A WEEK! Dude i thought you said A MONTH! now a month is plausible, but a week for 10k? thats pushin’ it. But more to the point, nice rankings. Living in the UK we don’t get many games, so it’s difficult keep up with how all 30 teams are doing, never mind how each rook has been playing, so imma have to take your word for it.
It’s nice to see your gettin’ some groupie love up in her’ as well. Gee (insert phrase) and Brandon got straight ‘G’ status after there Mic’s, I think you just solidified yours son. Good job.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:51 am
Dagomar says:
Rose will be ROY because he’s more consistant than Mayo and let’s face it, the face of Chicago will win an award before the second-best player in Memphis.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:53 am
Kudabeen says:
Good look on the post FED…
I feel Rose is going to snatch that top spot, because his J isn’t as bad as advertised and he is doing what wasn’t expected from him so quickly in being able to actually make guys better around him. If Bulls make it to the Playoffs, which is possibly that would catapult him over Mayo.
On the other hand if Mayo starts going to the line more and has a few spotlight matchup games he may get co-ROY consideration…
November 26th, 2008 at 10:53 am
YOUNGFED says:
@Dagomar
You mean best player in Memphis. Mayo is the new go-to-guy.
November 26th, 2008 at 10:55 am
girlybballluver says:
No love for J Bayless huh?
ROY will be Rose…aren’t they just giving it to the number one pick these days? Although I have to admit I’ve only seen Mayo play one NBA game so far…I guess you can say I’m not a believer yet.
As a heat fan I am slightly disappointed with B-Easy, but the kid is starting to grow on me.

Good ranking. Its still too early. Beasley, even Chalmers (see his game vs Rockets) could come around. Maybe even Oden. Still early in the game. Ranking’s straight tho.

justice says:
don’t get me wrong beasy will be really good, but lebron was not only fast but the guy is as versitile as anyone that’s ever played, it’s just not a fair comparison beasley plays 2 positions, lebron played 3 from day one and now 4, his first game with silas he played pg..
beasy does have a better jumper but he is nowhere near the athlete, i don’t think thats fair beasley will be more of a rasheed wallace/zach randolph maybe derrick coleman at best they are 2 different players
November 26th, 2008 at 11:17 am
rajjr319@hotmail.com says:
Lovin the post man, and as good as D-Rose is, i agree OJ will get the ROY because he came out thew gate going toe to toe with some of the best.
you should have thrown in some kinda honorable mention because Mbah a Moute is ballin outta control right now. one the few bright spots on that milwaukee team.
Beasely could be better but his defense is not only suspect…but NONEXISTENT. as high as the dudes ceiling is, right now he just cant put it all together for more than a couple games.
Oden cant be considered a bust yet, he gonna thru the growing pains a all the other rookie big men. he do to shave off the old man beard tho. he makin a case that he aint just 20 yrs old. gonna end up being like those dominicans in baseball that lie about their age say their younger than what they really are.
November 26th, 2008 at 11:26 am
YOUNGFED says:
@Post#48
I’ma have to check this Moute guy out alot of people seem to think he’s legit.
@Dime
I’d like to here some of you guys opinions also. Don’t be shy (lmao)
November 26th, 2008 at 11:39 am
dagwaller says:
Yo bud, good job on the list.
DEFINITELY think that Oden deserves to be on the list. He actually had a good WEEK, with 4 games in double figures and tied for the rookie lead with 3 double doubles. He also leads all rooks in blocked shots. I would actually put him way ahead of Mario Chalmers.
Also, where is Brook Lopez?
All of that can be forgiven for you not putting Anthony Morrow up here. I swear, it’s like he AVERAGED 37 points the way some people talk about him. It’s like, cmon, he had two games in double figures, and that’s all he can do (one game in double figures in rebounds, 0 blocks and 5 steals in 8 games) – people need to put down the pipe.

K Dizzle says:
Pretty good post, Fed.
No controversy on this cuz the rookies that been ballin have been known to hoopheads.It’s funny how OJ comes to Memphis and takes the leadership away from Rudy. I’d throw on Muah Moute and maybe that McGee kid outta Nevada after his load drop on the Warriors last night as honorable mentions

Nice post YOUNGFED.
I don’t think Oden will be a bust, but as of now, no way he belongs in ROY discussion. He might hit his stride post- All star break, but he’s still not going to be ROY.
